  • DD is of course great singer, but no mach to PJ or AS.

  • voce bellissima,toccante calda

  • Breathtakingly gorgeous!!

  • David Daniels voice is encouraging me as I develop my voice it a really exciting journey and so much awsome music to sing for us counter tenors!

  • David Daniels voice is encouraging me as I develop my voice it a really excitin g journey and so much awsome music to sing!

  • It is such a privilege to hear and appreciate this singer.

  • The bizarre suit and set are really creating some weird mental dissonance with the music. Absolutely gorgeous, though.

  • What a gorgeous and powerful voice. I love the purity and beauty of Jaroussky's voice, but it is missing the complexity, richness, and power of this man's incredible voice.

  • @davehshs Of course, because PJ isn't a real countertenor like Daniels but just a pop singer performing classical stuff without any depth, richness, complexity and with total disattachment from the image. He is just a falsettist...

  • @serenaluce ... ouch, Serena. My question is, are you talking about personal character or vocal quality when you say PJ is a pop singer and DD is the genuine article ? I agree he is better, but I just don't know why, if it is the way he sounds or the facial expressions and body language and apparent emotions, the whole package. Is it who he is or what he sounds like?

  • dear lord can this man sing.

  • Daniels has one of the most beautiful voices in history. The fact that he is compelling onstage and very good looking are but two more factors in his greatness as an artist.

  • How can someone dislike this? The beutiful stringaccompiment and Daniels wonderful ringing vibrato. I just love it!

  • Daniels is more stunning each time I hear him.

  • Absolutely beautiful, David.

    So proud to know you.

    You're a wonderful, wonderful musician.

    Sincerely,

    Daniel

  • What profound emotional depth in David's singing. Thank you for posting this.

Whomever came up with these tasteless colors, costumes and a set - why did you have to do that to this great opera, mediocre minds? :(

  • I usually really don't care for countertenors, but his voice is supreme! A rich, rounded tone and ringing vibrato. great post!!!!

  • Spanish and English translation. Querida esposa, amante querida, ¿dónde estás? ¡Ah! Beloved wife, lover beloved, where are you? Ah! My wrath returns! In the altar of your dark Érebos*, with the force of my indignation, I challenge you, oh unworthy spirits! (Open to corretions!) Thanks *wikipedia . org/wiki/Erebos
  • @angelogcs77 Sorry about the text being together. That's how it came up.

  • I think i have played this at least 100 times last week. The singing is just so unbeliveably moving. Handel wrote so much beautiful music!

  • @Panjalin Same here and I agree! :D

  • oh ma god im worried coz wednessday i have a concert and have to sing this higher :( :(

  • What a timbre, what a musicality!!He sings so geniously, and he plays so well that I forget even the ugly decor.

  • the performance is so good and the whole staging thing is a big crap !!

  • the music is sublime but the costumes are hideous!!!!!!!! They are not in keeping with he music.

  • Amazing preformance and great improv in the da capo part!

  • Thank you Mr. Handel!

  • freaking rocks loved it

  • really strange to hear a man sing like a woman but it is very beautiful

  • @sz1a He doesn't sing like a woman. He is singing in falsetto. Women don't do that normaly to get this voice.

  • Sensationell!

  • "Cara sposa,amante cara,dove sei?

  • Gorgeous, clear voice. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

I love the modern setting. It brings a new insight into the song, making it more accessible to younger audiences.

  • Engaging a tone deaf set designer was a mistake.

  • Great Scott!! This is some of the best singing I have heard in YEARS. SO tasteful, such pathos, and the ornaments...I'm completely bowled over. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Nice to see a live version of a barou

que-opera. So rarely preformed these days, to bad!

  • Thanks for posting this. It used to be on Spotify, but has gone now. I expect I shall end up buying the album as I can't stop listening to it!

  • Simply magnificent. I've been playing this at least once a day for two weeks and have not tired of it. Daniels' performance is impeccable.

Bravo Daniel!

  • "l'atrocce decor" LOL oh WELL SAID! Isn't it disgusting? Perhaps it was on purpose to accentuate the sheer vocal beauty, non je plaisante.. As a lower voice I listen to him before a lot of mezzo recordings, he just gets it, and it's beautiful.

  • Best ever!!!!!!

  • Handel is (one of) the best composers of all rimes°!

  • According to Beethoven, "Handel is the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb." I don't necessarily agree, but there is no need to trash the man who was truly one of the greatest.

  • 1. Beethoven knew the works of many comosers?

    2. All he had to do to kneel before Handel's tomb was to go to Westminster Abbey (Haydn had already been to London as had JC Bach.)

How do you measure "great" and "greatest"? These are rather overblown Romantic statements in my view.

Telling the truth is not "trashing" unless you can prove your accusation.

  • Is this at the "New" Met Opera? Visually this is shit.

  • I agree.

    Paroles Cara Sposa

    Cara Sposa, amante cara,

    Dove sei?

    Deh! Ritorna a' pianti miei!

    Del vostro Erebo sull'ara,

    Colla face dello sdegno

Io vi sfido, o spirti rei!

  • Amazing beautiful singing, the bet I have ever heard this aria performed. Shame the set was a bit weird.

  • My God I'm breathless! Wonderful! If angels really sing they should have a voice like his!

  • Mr. Daniels voice is devinely touching and has an unusual quality of very high art, indeed.

But please, that orange sofa and zute suit.

is totally out of character with this beautiful music.

  • @mrmolinodelahoz

    Bravo~

  • funny, i spelt: LUCKS instead of LOOKS. Maybe I thought of SUCKS ;]

  • who for heaven's sake did this horrible costume?! he lucks as if he has just finished browsing in a trashbin! or even more like and old queen having no mirror...

even more pity because the aria is sung very well, actually!

  • can anyone tell me more sad arias like this one??

  • just close your eyes and only listen to the music!!!

  • what ? and miss looking at the gorgeous David, no thanks

  • This production has a stupendous singers... and as good as they are that's how how stupid the direction/production is. Somehow, I forgive it all for the beauty of the music and singers.

  • Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Transcendent. Amazing. My heart is drawn right out of me on those long lovely notes. Totally beautiful. But I do hate the trenchcoat and hideous orange chairs. We just need to close our eyes and be transported!

  • top

  • bewegend und auch breathtaking, aber das outfit .....

    fauxpass

Keiner weiß, was diser Quatsch soll.

  • Intense, passionate, riveting, haunting. It´s hard to think of any better version of this magnificent aria (But I agree: the costume and the setting are appaling).

  • Aaah so great!

  • In my opinion this is the best "Cara sposa" I've ever heard, but costume is really awful for that arie...

  • wonderful, but... please, someone could dismiss the director who decided this set design and this horrible costume?

  • GRACIAS POR EXISTIR DAVID DANIELS!!!

  • Absolutely! Gorgeous

  • Simplemente... ¡soberbio!.

  • You cannot get any intenssier than thaaaat! Bravo David! Does he have a clip of Purcell's Dido's Lament song?

  • Dido's lament is sung by a female character. Not that transvestites aren't common in opera but most modern male singers don't sing female roles

  • I know the gender of Dido, but I guess you didn't get that I was thinking out of the box. Besides, wouldn't that be a great idea to present Dido & Aeneas in 2009 in cross gendered roles? BUT, the danger there is permitting liberalism in modern opera. My point is, Daniel's voice would perhaps intimidate traditional mezzo's if given the chance.

  • No it wouldn't. :( I'm a contralto and I don't care for the fact most of the reportoire for female contraltos is mostly "pants roles". I always try to avoid such roles myself in my career. I think its wrong either way for both men and women to play the other.

  • I agree with you totally, the male soprano alto voice is often superior to the female voice and the mystery keeps em guessing.

When Farinelli was visited by Mozart in bologna, Farnilli said "this man will put us out of a job" I still want to see Aeneas as a big burly Trojan with a beard and spear who could only sing in bass voice.

  • Absolutely fantastic, when I heard it the first time on tv I thought time was stopping during this aria

  • Precioso... que bella mùsica y que bella voz

  • So absolutely heavenly that i cant get enough of it!

  • I always thought Marilyn Horne was the best Rinaldo ever, but no, Daniels beats her.

(with all respect for M H)

  • Well, I think she was his teacher...

  • La meilleure version de cet air !!!

  • That was so fantastic! He sang with such emotion!

  • Had to listen again, this is so good.

  • Thanks Mr. Daniels. Your voice and performance shut up those colors in the scenography and clothes.

  • haha what a rockstar, I liked the chair being thrown. What a beautiful voice!

  • Wow he is so good!

  • Such a delicate, but profound performance! Can't but touch your soul!

  • he deserves a life time of applause for that the music is perfect but i rarely saw a singer with such intensity in the acting

  • Oh my God this is amazing!!!!

  • I stumbled across this by accident I had never heard of David Daniels before . I was blown away ,what a stunning performance. He has the most heavenly voice , I was moved to tears.

  • So proffound and soft texture voice. The mixture between the a youn and an adult voice. Just perfect.

  • Second only to Ewa! Thanks for sending this chef!

  • This is beautiful!

  • Oh Thank You ! Thank you! Thank you!!

Splendid superb voice, splendid performance - BRAVISSIMO DAVID DANIELS! TI ADORO!

  • Absolutly GREAT!!! I love David Daniels performance!!!

  • It doesn't get any greater than this! Harry Bicket is a genius.

  • Wonderful!

    chris

  • INCREDIBILE!
