@yortsandthat Yep, that was her, before she left the Sugarcubes and conquered the world. By the way, Regina is one of the worst ever Cubes songs, so don't judge them on it!
I used to tape this half a lifetime ago! The only problem was I could only afford about 3 vhs tapes, and kept recording over them,Rock in the uk/transmission was a good prog around at the time, but was on about 4 in the morning...
soup dragons did about 2 or three pieces of perfect indie pop (nowhere near as good as the bodines or wedding present imho) then changed their colours to go all aceeeeed. track on here is a blatant mary chain/MBV cross.
best damn happy mondays track i've heard though - well done bud
I wouldn't even give it enough credit to call it a JAMC/MBV cross because that would take a (small) bit of creativity. It is nothing but them completely ripping off JAMC's Darklands stuff and it is fucking painful to listen to
Friend of mine saw them at Coachella this year. Said Shaun barely got through the set. Didn't help much that Bez couldn't get a passport to the US either. Also sucks that Rowetta wasn't part of the reunion either.
In fact, the situation then is echoed now in Hollywood, where movies such as Garden State and Napoleon Dynamite are billed as "quirky indie films", whereas in fact they're bankrolled by the major studios. The Soup Dragons' sub-Rolling Stones dross didn't really deserve to appear in any chart; far better is their early, Buzzcocks-style single "Hang Ten!", uploaded elsewhere on YouTube from a 1986 Chart Show Indie Chart.
Depeche Mode weren't really indie, but were eligible for this chart as they were signed to Mute (along with Erasure and the Inspiral Carpets), unlike the more "indie-esque" Soup Dragons, as the 23Daves has pointed out!!
Yeah, bring it back. I wanted to be part of that Madchester scene back then, but I was too young. Today´s indie isn´t quite as good as it was back then.
Great to see that again, thanks for posting.

Thee Hypnotics at number 9 - Resurrection Joe off ComeDownHeavy is one fine song - like the Bad Seeds in 10 minutes flat.

This Indie Chart is the 2nd in a row of Happy Mondays (WFL remix) being played. Therefore it's 21st October 1989.

Pale Saints at #2! One of my favourite ever bands... ("The Comforts of Madness" is one of my favourite ever albums too)
Thanks for uploading - I'm really going to enjoy watching all these charts... :) (Yes, bring back Indie 1989-1991! I fully concur with that... )

Soup Dragons, one of the worst bands ever.
Well, alright...I kind of like "Divine Thing".
Still crap though.

BTW, the FFWD effects look different than the ones from the 1991 videos. Was it changed to make it look like proper FFWDing or something?

I didn't know Depeche Mode, we're considered indie?
