Given the length of time the caimen spends holding each egg in its mouth prior to consuming it (and the fact that the mother does not react to her eggs being eaten), do you think it could be checking the eggs to see if they are infertile and then consuming those that are, as has been reported in American Alligators (Kushlan and Simon, 1981)?
