Of course this is a fabulous track - however if you listen to the words and link this to "Outside" as seminal "concept" album that takes us on a journey "outside" society for people who have been acused of paedophile activities then you begin to understand why he is lonely in this track from Reality. "pictures on my hard drive".
@rogerxwilliams Um... I REALLY don't think so. "Outside" is very literal in its theme, meant to have been part of a cycle explaining what everyone was going on about (it's looking at the events from "outside"). I'd say the "pictures on my hard drive" are just garden-variety porn, with a little bit of a highlight on the fact that the line would have been gibberish to most when his fame (FAME!) was peaking.
@musicminded64 Not many would. It's from his most recent album, which is easily the best since Scary Monsters, maybe even the best since the Spiders years, but pretty much went by unnoticed except to fans and critics.
When Joel Craig ask to Bowie if this song come from a negative mood he ansewer "i want simply capture one soul condition, this totally sense of isolation that one feel when seems to not have bond with the universe I've felt often this deep sensations of desertion and i can live it again immediately, like an actor that make a personage After a lot esperience i dont need to be in a situation of melancoly or mental confusion induced by the drug for write about it is enough remember."

@rogerxwilliams That is the first underlying concept somebody has ever pointed out that makes sense. Bravo Dr.Williams.

@eliseandnicky The vocals aren't supposed to be strong, but weary. And that's precisely what they are.
