@bernymac20 I decided to used beef and celery. :) Everything turned out well and it tasted delicious. Thanks again for sharing your mom's recipe. I'm so glad I found this video. :)
thannk you so much for sharing your family recipe! I just learned what Prohok is. What is she skimming off the top after she adds the water in? What is the green seaweed looking stuff that she adds?
@fmbighair Shes skimming off the fat that rises to the top. The green leaf she adds at the end that looks like seaweed. I don't know what it is. But its very minty and has a good kick to it. If you make this with beef we use celery instead.
Oh yeah you are a good son. I wish my mom and I have a good chemistry like that so jealous. Anyway get yourself a wife that can make all those traditional food for you.
Everybody love their mom recipe. My mom is very unique with her style and that encourage me to change up a lot of Cambodian recipe and it alway turn out great.
@khmerbutterflygrl Thank you. Me and my mom had rough times in the past but we get along better now. She still gives me some shit here and there but I understand and accept it more. There are also times where she makes us feel like we are bad children. We are not the best but we are not bad either. And yes, I need a Cambodian wife haha. I don't know what I'll do if I can't cook all of my moms recipes or anything close.
this is my favourite samlor too (though i've never had it with venison!) thanks for sharing your video! it's quite something to see a khmer guy wanting to learn how to cook - well done! enjoy those moments with your mum... i'm sure she has gone off to tell her friends what a wonderful son she has and said friends would give 'that lecture' to their kids :P oh how i hated that lecture growing up.... and i was a good girl too!!! no fair! lol
:D i love this dish :P

@LeisureMode Did you decide to use beef and celery? Because its pretty hard to find deer and the other leaf ingredient she was using for this soup.

@LeisureMode Thats great to hear. I usually like to eat this soup the day after. When the celery becomes more soggy and soaks up the soup.

@MultiPurples We use both. I prefer beef but when my parents get deer, they'll take deer over beef any day. Deer isn't bad though.
