  • @jonwyllie

    both! ;)

  • beat that jack white i see you in the background looking pissed off. yer a jerk.

  • beat that jack white i see you in the background looking pissed off.

  • He's one of the few people in this world who looks good with a porn 'stache

  • Bon Iver and Nick Cave were on the same show!! how could I miss this! at least I think that's Bon Iver standing there at the start.

  • beautiful !

  • Love. This. Song.

PS. Is Ellis huge or his guitar tiny?

  • @jonwyllie ellis is huge and he's not holding a guitar but a mandocaster.

  • @jonwyllie having only 4 strings, I may be wrong but I think it is an electric Ukelele

  • I Would Love to come around Your Place

  • This should be more popular!

  • Ellis is the fucking man in this

  • @Estigon2006 I wanna be just like Ellis when I grow up :)

  • If anyone comments again that this song sounds like the doors i'm going to spew. It sounds like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, circa now. And Morrison lasted how many years? Get real guys and gals

  • @TheKapanis It doesn't sound like the Doors though they have the same appreciation for chaos.

  • Honestly, the intense look on Conway Savage's face throughout all the Dig Lazarus Dig!!! videos makes the album for me. He looks the most focused in the band by far when he is working those hand claps. You'd think it'd be a waste of his talent if they weren't the whole way throughout the album and really adding to the complete sound of it all.

  • Bon Iver right at the beginning of this video standing behind Jools...BEST. FUCKING. LINE UP......EVER!

  • Comment removed

  • that is the coolest fuckin guitar I have ever seen. or heard

  • @ogremilk You can't have heard much! Hahahahaha :)

  • The coolest group of guys in the building that night were Cave & the bad seeds without a doubt, fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THE KINGS OF COOL!

  • Hello I´m Nick Cave. And here´s the greatest song ever written, enjoy. :)

  • this last nick cave album was the worst. I love every album but this one is just average. without Mick Harvey the band won't sound like the bad seeds. he is so important to the sound of this band. If Thomas Wydler drums less and less that's not good because it's obvious he's the best of the two drummers. where was Thomas in this video?

  • Nick, Warren, and the rest of the Badseeds were possessed for this performance.

  • Awsome.

  • That leg kick at 3:32, and that pornstache, and a book that's all smut and lyrics that are all poetry. That's the essence of Cave.

  • zajebiste!

  • i thinkk jack white and nick cave should do some work together.......

  • no !

  • @ALXgreatlord Oh, please, no. Jack has got to go to hell and back before he can even think if writing from the same planet as Nick Cave.

  • conway savage is a genius!

  • warren ellis = class and style.

  • Is he the one, that looks like Karl Marx? In that case, really great style!!!!!!

  • yes, he is!!!

  • Thank you SO much for this. I am so very grateful. Wish I'd been there... It's such a pleasure to see how energetic he still is now, despite all the drugs and quitting them at his age, in comparison to some other Great Singers. Fabulous and heart-warming.

  • How cool is the guitarist? Just playing whatever and whenever, and still making it work...

  • The Doors vs. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds? A music review I read years ago put it this way, "Nick Cave picks up where Jim Morrison left off." They are two of my three favoriate bands of all time. I'm just glad I don't have to choose only one.

  • they asked him about jim morrison once on bbc4 but nick cave said that he couldnt care less about the doors....for him its all about arty punk, bod dylan, johnny cash & leonard cohen....amazing

  • i can understand that, i think he's influenced by shane mcgowen, certainly was in the early 90's and possibly waits. Dont know were grinderman came from, did anyone watch the jools holland episode were travis literally realised how shit they were in the presence of grindermans greatness. It was truely priceless.

  • It's not really an electric mandolin, as it only has 4 strings instead of 8.

Warren's a violin player who likes to play pizzicato - check out the version of "Lazarus" from this show - and a mandolin is in the same tuning as a violin, so this is a way for him to rock out without having to completely learn a new instrument.

It wouldn't have the same impact with the octave strings, and he gets a different sound from a violin due to the frets.

    Pretty badass & unique.

  • you cant even compare the doors with nick cave. way different genres, definitely different times

  • totally. i love the doors, but the 60s was an era of a different time. nick is a sound that embraces us .get his book. king ink . look at his writing. its beautiful. his lyrics are amazing. god is in the house is the best song ever written. never mind the piano(which is so moving) but the words portray a fucked up world. its earth shattering. listen to the words and cry

  • Only 23,000 views? I swear half of them have to be me by now :)

  • @thisisfuckingbulcrap no wonder your plastic civ just got out performed by good ol ger äh ign err daun ander...

yank muzac pff. no wonder morrison turned to blues with all this mob n jidda prescribed post roman klory rnr!

not the first thing worth listening to to quote mr lennin...

almost all muzak that comes from yankland is either played by negros or heavily influenced by them ;)

  • @jutubaeh even good ol joe swinull is better than that...

wää wickätt gäme to play wää your toons rule though lol.

    especially their muzak ;)

  • Well...Can someone explain why Ellis guitar is so small?

  • Its called a madocaster

  • Thanks. I'll google it.

  • That should be "Mandocaster". Essentially, it's an electric mandolin.

  • are you serious? warren was invited to the bad seeds. nick cave was incredibly envious and jealous of the bad seeds, to the extent he tried to sing with them-resulting in disaster. they're great friends. and they're both amazing musicians

  • I think you meant Nick was jealous of Dirty Three, not the Bad Seeds. Anyway, thanks to Warren Ellis, Nick seems revitalized and Grinderman and Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! are the best albums Nick Cave has made in years. Lyre of Orpheus/Abattoir Blues was great but there's a certain energy and depraved humor running through the last two records that us hardcore fans had missed. Thanks to Warren Ellis. On the way: Another Grinderman, Bad Seeds and soundtrack featuring Mr. Ellis. Fuck Yeah!!!!

  • Did I see Bob Geldof shaking an apple?

  • Yes, you did!

  • Warren Ellis is such a legend. I hope The Bad Seeds continue to be great without Mick Harvey. I have hundreds of albums but Nick Cave is one of those rare examples of continued consistency over an entire career. Where others have fallen at the wayside, he just keeps on giving. What a beast!

  • well said!!

  • lol joaquin poenix ripped off warren ellis's look :P

nick cave is so underrated.. i think it's cus the bulk of people want catchy nursury rhymes over lyrical content

  • lol @ 3.18 the rasputin guy can't get the plectrum out of his pocket in time

  • i love Nick Cave but how can you say that he has done more for music than Jim Morrison?

  • can't get enough of this video

  • They actually play this on CD101, the alternative rock/whatever station in Columbus, Ohio. Killer.

  • genial!!!increible como suena cave y su banda!!!!

  • Is it me or is Warren Ellis channeling some kind of strange Electric Mandolin version of Billy Gibbons?

  • I prefer to think of it as electric mandolin Rasputin.

  • Я давно ждал от Ника новой хорошей песни. Nick, Saint-Petersburg is waiying for you again

  • Definatly a touch Jim morrison and The doors in this you can hear it, I so agree dento 17.

  • I am not talking about the lyrics. When I first heard Cave with the Birthday Party I realised this man was unique lyrically but the music of this one Cave song could well have been written by The Doors - it just has that feel.

  • It has an hammond organ but thats about as close asit gets to the doors. Superb. Cave is far superior to morrison when it comes to writting lyrics.

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • fantastićno, nešto najbolje što sam čuo poslednjih godina

Kako li bi zvučio Bob Dilan sa ovom pesmom voleo bih znati

  • Fuck Me -- that was perfect...

  • what guitar is warren ellis playing here?

  • Fender Electric Mandolin

  • hahahaha "Hmmm, I'm not sure. There's not a snake, reptile or LSD trip to be found among the lyrics." - that was a stupid comment.

They sang about a whole lot of more. I understand what he is meaning and i thing its a good thing to compare the song to the doors! Two of the darkest and most intense rock´n´roll acts colliding!

  • Genius.

  • fuck. plain sweetness

  • far out. the intensity of this song is utterly brilliant. "I called you once, I called you twice... Am I your midnight man?"

  • i love this song - its the best song off of Dig. sounds good live too.

  • Ahhhhhhhh Fucking brilliance!!!

  • Agreed mate but the music sounds very much like the doors to me. That is not to take away from Cave's uniqueness though.

  • This is a superb song but could of been composed by The Doors

  • 'but could of been composed by The Doors'

Hmmm, I'm not sure. There's not a snake, reptile or LSD trip to be found among the lyrics.

  • and no naked indian - if it reminds you of the doors, not such a bad thing but I cant hear it ...

  • Indeed and though Jim is a veritable God and Nick is ascending, the rest of the Doors were just OK however the Bad Seeds are positively sublime!

  • the rest of the doors were far better musicians than morrisson. he was over rayed. the doors are an amazing band

  • morrison was not a musician. he was a poet.

  • thats a tad pretentious no? he was a singer in a rock band, and a great lyricist but no poet. nick caves work far surpasses anything morrison done both in quality and quantity

  • totally true.

  • i disagree i think Caves work surpasses morrisons only in terms of quantity but not quality, the doors were an unbelieveable band, Cave's great the birthday party were good, same with grinderman and the bad seed's, but non were as great as the doors.

  • its a matter of opinion i suppose

  • the doors were good...i like em a lot...but they sounded just the same with each album.....with the seeds its like....wow....how could they?...from her to eternity - the firstborn is dead - boatman's call - abbatoir blues / lyre of orpheus - dig lazarus dig!!!....like totally different....the doors were like a bit square typical rock band but a really good one....nick & the seeds are like searching for something with each album...

  • i understand what your saying but the doors were only around for 6 years the bad seeds have been going for a massive 26 years, obviously over that length of time they will have ventured into different musical styles. Dont get me wrong i think the bad seeds are great and cave and ellis can do nothing wrong at the moment musically. But were talking about the doors here, one of the greatest bands in history, it's like comparing cave to dylan, no matter how good cave is you cant compare

  • totally...agreed....though im keeping dylan & the seeds first....anyway my fav dorrs album is morrison hotel....and yes....warren ellis changed the whole picture too....cheers

  • One of my fave songs, thanks for putting this up!

  • why they turned out the best moment of this song: Close your eyes, sleep in him, dream of your lost sons and daughters... !? that could be the best best live version...

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting, I recorded Jools Holland last night because Nick Cave was on it but my recorder stopped just before this song.

  • I'll second that! My recorder stopped half way through this song. Cheers Milo!

  • Now thats fuckin music!

  • Is it just me or is Nick looking more and more like Max Wall every day?
