I think I finally figured out what this song's about.

It starts off as a love song, as in "I'll love you no matter what" but once the chorus kicks in, it's a different story. I think that the person had got dumped by a girl, but when the girl needed help or felt lonely, he said he just "didn't care". It works with the lyrics. She broke up with him, so he won't be there when she needs him.
