  • it maybe a clutch mechanism, when the lens reaches focus point and needs to stop the locking mechanism slips

  • @leperchaunPower Canons break my fingers.

  • Poor Nikon :(

  • I think you need to send it for repair and change the AFS motor

  • *cough* hahaha, and I'm a Nikon guy *cough*

  • I would call Nikon and have the lens repaired before your lens gets worse.

  • sounds like lake of oil

  • Sounds like some grinddage of the gear. it could be manual focusing and autofocusing are interfering with each other because the lens is unable to disengage some sort of locking mechanism correctly.

  • Air brakes?

  • *cough* buy a canon *cough* ... :D

  • *cough* buy a Pentax *cough* This issue has faced up before. Sending it in for repair has always fixed the problem.

  • lol canons cameras aren't as good and optical quality is about the same as nikon

  • *cough* get in hell instead of getting in heaven....

  • hi, my 18-200 vr have a slightly higher pitch noise than that. but doesnt affect the functionality of the lens.

did you send yours in yet? what did nikon do or say?

    thanks

  • well... but his 70-200 is much more expensive than your consumer lens 18-200.... so such things shouldn t happen to such a lens

  • woah, didn't realize this was getting comments... sorry for the delay in response...

I had purchased this used via ebay, and the seller was surprised also at the sound... He willingly accepted the return at full refund, so I was only out the cost to ship it back to him...

I'm still in the market to buy if anyone knows of a (working) deal!

    Thanks!

  • yeah contact Nikon. something is wrong there

  • i like how you rake it way past the limiter...good job. busted af motor.

  • lol, all the 70-200 lenses go past the focus limiters.

  • most, (possibly all) AF-S lenses are designed to do this. its a "feature".

  • not supposed to squeak like that. there IS a problem

  • Ok, no problems, go to Nikon :/

  • So... which is it?

"No problems" would suggest I don't need to go to Nikon...

"Go to Nikon" suggests that the lens has some problems.

  • It was a joke . .

You must to go to Nikon :/
