No, that's not the original, the original is french : "Grand Dieu sauve notre roi". It was used as the official anthem frome Louis XIV to the french revolution, and is a symbol of the absolutism. That shows well that british monarchy is not as democratic she wants to seem.

Why don't you like the British? I'm British, but I love Russia and have been reading about Russian history. The Tsars were slowly westernising and modernising Russia and were moving towards freedom for all and representation, but WW1 ruined the country and led to revolution. Britain was reformed earlier than Russia so the people weren't so radical when faced with a crisis. Our countries weren't that different, only Russia embarked on reform later than Britain and unfortunately ran out of time.

I first heard this Anthemn at the Russian Center in San Francisco during the 1950's. It was sung by white Russians who managed to flee Bolshevism during the 1920's. It was a pleasure to hear it sung once more in the tongue of my ancestors and so I thank you for posting this video.

Cool. Russia's first national anthem is one of the several songs that are sung to the tune of the British national/Commonwealth royal anthem "God Save the Queen".
