LIke this one, looks like they are all having a ball, very upbeat, and yes Nathan East is having fun....He usually is the one who gets the crowd going......with his clapping and hopping around....but Clapton is Great,as usual
I used to have his Sunshine of your love performance on VHS, sort of mixed up tape had recorded music from new years programmes mixed in it. Loved the drum and guitar solo but couldn't find that on here.
Can anyone tell me the DVD this was on?ebworth 1990 or something?
This is one of my alltime favorite live clips. Clapton at his peak in my opinion. Not bad cosidering he only knows one scale (penatonic blues). Having such great musicians behind him flatters his limited musicianship - they are the ones really doing the clever stuff. His playing at the Cream reunion gigs sucked big time. You could see his heart wasn't in it. Here he's loving it and it really shows.
like duuh... Disreali Gears is one of my favorite albums...
but he was faking it even then - he just played blues while Bruce and Baker did all the work. I think the 90s saw his material broaden and saw him mature as a performer, and a writer, particularly into the unplugged era, and the albums that followed. Nowadays it seems he's 'gone back to his roots' - muso speak for ' I can't be arsed any more i'll just play blues'.
Remember that blues is to music what the pun is to wit.
well duuuh... I've only been playing guitar for 40 years, teaching it for 15, (all styles electric acoustic classical and bass, oh yeah and music theory), so I think i know what I'm talking about. Like all blues guitarists Clapton is (by his own admission) a very limted musician.
Blues is easy - pentatonic scale, bend a few notes, and pull a few faces. Or if you're BB King just three notes most of the time with a bend on one of them, or if you're Albert Collins just one note will do - but he plays that note with such conviction and great tone it works. I'm not saying it's bad, you can still make great music that way, but see it for what it is.
I've met some phemenal jazz guitarists that know all the theory there is and yet when they play blues they totally suck.. yes they know the pentatonic scale, but have no idea how to phrase well, string bend, use vibrato and generally make the guitar sing.. This is what EC does so well, and what separates the men from the boys. I agree Eric is limited in vocabulary but what he does, he does like no other.. he's also a great singer improving with age and has written some of the best music on earth
I love this video..thank u for posting it..of course I'm kinda partial to Clapton (under statement) and who else could pull off wearing a pink suit and look damn good doing it? lol..Nathan East is awesome..he always looks like he is so enjoying it!
Steve ferrone ( Average White band) Greg Philiganes is awesome on keys too. Love ray cooper on perc and phil palmer too. claptons face and beard look like mine now though i think its a daquiri colored suit lol
I was at this show. Clapton was at his best here. Check out the rest of the acts that day. best show of my life

Apart from Santana, no one on this planet can perform this well... 'live' absolutely fantastic.

I like Clapton's lead tone here. It may not be as thick as Phil Palmer's tone but it sings.

Not another idiot who hasn't a clue about music or what it takes to play an instrument. Educate yourself a bit before leaving stupid comments.
