  • GENIUS!

  • Brazil definitely needs some of those bottle schools, seriously, i live in Brazil and i'd like to know if there are any project of hugitforward coming here.

  • I'm so blessed by this.

  • Looking at it from an engineering point of view, it's pretty ingenious. It's a structure built on a wood and steel frame with half-concrete walls. The bottles shouldn't just be taking up space, but they can handle a lot of downward force as well. Of course pure concrete would be stronger, but this is an extremely cash-efficient method of construction. My big question is whether they're concerned about insulation or harsh weather conditions, and how they account for those.

  • I don't get it, what's the point of the bottles? Insulation or foundation to put the cement over?

  • @blahinthe Because of the bottles, we use far less cement than we would using traditional cinder-block construction - there is only a thin layer of cement on each side of the bottle walls. It is therefore cheaper. Building bottle schools also helps clean up the trash in a community - but, much more important than that, it educations a generation of kids about the impact they have on the environment.
