im running almost 200 hp out of my 1984 murcury capri rs turbo it doesnt have an intercooler on it. there has only been a couple mods on it also like a .020 bore and upgraded pistons and rods and thats pretty much it
@classicrockonly Turbo back.. I made all of it because I had an aftermarket header that moved the turbo rearward by a few inches.... so, stock downpipes weren't close to fitting.
@classicrockonly You'd gain some HP over stock, for sure. But, the real gains come from a full turbo back 3" mandrel exhaust. A 3" downpipe out of the turbo will make a big difference.
@classicrockonly Quite the opposite.. a turbo works on pressure differential, so if you minimize pressure in the exhaust pipe (within reason, of course - don't use 5" pipe!) it will help it spool faster and flow easier.
i had a 89 hatch 2.3 with system density injection (no MAF sensor)... with the air intake and filter moved to the trottle and a lot less restricting cat and muffler on ... i was ripping it .... althought i had a 2.43 gear if im not mistaken but what i really liked was i could max my top speed what wasnt much past 100 ... couldnt tell anyway speedometer stopped at 85 or something ... neway getting to 100 mph in merely a few seconds after takeoff made me happy since i lived in orlando... haha
@IROCwarriorAMC88 u may have just left out the "turbo" part of that sentence on accident, i'm not sure, but i have a stock 2.3 and i can tell you it doesn't do much. but i'm swapping an 85.5 svo motor into it :D

Yeah those engines sound like crap nowadays. But man those SVO's can be running straight pipes if you want since they old enough and man I hear those 2.3T really boogy. @Lynium lol just so you know the 2.3's that had intercoolers were barely pushing 175 stock, and there wasnt one pushing over 200.
and not gonna lie, no engine can love 30 psi all day unless it is diesel. either way there is a single cam 1.6L honda pushing 800 to the wheels on 40 psi, and b series can do at least 1k at that boost level
@popatittyshit the 88-ish years.. change exhaust and air filter, some minor no parts required adjustments = 200+ HP.. diesels suck.. of course all engines are nothing but an air pump... and just so you know, my car has no intercooler, and is sitting at 175hp... STOCK I had a 91 talon... 2.0 four popper.. ity bity turbo you never even noticed doin its thing.. 190HP STOCK.. but it didnt pull nearly as hard as the 2.3T did.. i never knew turbo lag or acceleration till i drove the XR4Ti..
@popatittyshit merkur xr4ti came with 175hp with no intercooler and the mustang svo with intercoolers were pushing 205hp....thats pretty impressive for a late 80s technology single cam 8valve..please stop
isnt it 12-15lbs on the autos and 18pnds on the manuals? and thats why the HP differance between auto vs manual, cause of that POS auto tranny. Maybe thats just an XR4Ti thing...
@Lynium auto xr's are set to 10-12lbs, manuals are 12-15. Manuals are rated 175 and auto are rated 145 because of course the auto xr's max boost is 12 and the man. are 14-15max boost. also the auto xr4 computer have a limiter and shift at i think 4800rpm and stick ur able to shift up to like 5500?.
i have one and it is so much fun. i like when the 5.0 mustang try to race me they dont have a chance. mine is intercooled port and polished milled head crank rods and pistons and it is runing 20 psi of boost. it runs 9.55 seconds 1/4 mile
i got a 2.3 turbo from a turbo coupe thunderbird in my CJ5. not that fast top end because of the gearing (setup for offroad). but its all torque. its an old jeep too, a '65 Willys Jeep CJ5 with a fiberglass body so its very light. i have an intercooler for it but havent figured out hoe to mount it yet.
those were quick cars stock. they should've made more 2.3 turbos. my friend wrecked his t bird so we threw the engine in my jeep cj5. it needs to be rebuilt though. when i take it up to 30 pounds of boost it burns oil.
stock for stock, a 92 civic si would murder that thing. naturally aspirated, and has .7 less liters. with all the mods he could probably hang with a 09' stock si. but at 19.5lbs of boost to any civic and you are grossly out done. this things pushin what? 210 to the crank? and thats 180is to the ground. please
dib07ce, are you fuckin' kidding? you're one of those ricer guys I guess, got the big fart pipe too? drive around swarming around like a fly? Cut springs with stock struts, bouncing up and down as it goes over bumps?
Dude, my buddy had an SI and could drive like a mother'fer, not a riced out one either. My other buddy raced him neck and neck with an old Volvo Turbo STATION Wagon, come on man "please".
stock 2.3T comes with either 132 or 145hp. and they weigh 2850ish. compare that to the 92 civic si, 125hp weighing about 2300lbs. the extra 7/20 hp doesnt make up for 550lbs. and thats the old weak ass civic si. dont really want to compare to the new si, but just for shits and giggles it weighs the same as the little fox, but comes with 197hp. that ford 4cyl 8v pos cant compete with honda 4cyl. its a 2.3 and puts out the same power NA as a d15 one of hondas smallest engines and .8 liters smaller
All that shit, this and that, this and that doesn't mean shit. Example:
My SVT Cobra Terminator STOCK w/390HP could whoop the living shit out of the SRT8 Dodge w/425HP I used to own, when I bought it me and my buddy raced. One would think, hell I thought that the SRT8, yeah it weighed more but had a bigger engine and more HP so I thought it was going to at least be equal. I was wrong, comparing numbers and weight doesn't mean shit, I've learned.
actually the cobra has a better power to wieght then the srt8 by about 6%. and i'm pretty sure that the claimed 390 is at the wheels, which really messes up the ratio. cause the srt8 makes about 370 to the wheels. so in conclusion, i know power to weight ratio doesnt mean everything, there's gearing and traction, but you didn't prove your point.
dib07cd, dude, they're both AT THE crank. ALL manufacturers rate at the crank and guess what? Someone blew the whistle on Ford because due to factory exhaust restrictions they were putting out LESS than 390 at the crank!
I did prove my point, you just don't get it. Typical ricer shit.
Again stop! Anyone can sit there and say "this has this, that has that, these specs vs. these specs, I got this, I got that, this and that, this and that"
typical illiterate mustang fuck, how can you argue when you cant even read. you through out a senerio to prove yourself but you proved yourself wrong, time and time again. do alittle reasearch before you start talking, better yet. go to your local library and read. just read.
shut up you little fart pipe ricer bitch, no one gives a fuck what you're saying. Proved myself wrong? Didn't prove anything wrong. Anything can look like anything on paper and while just talking shit until you actually run. You continued your bench racing which doesn't mean shit and still doesn't mean shit. .
There are real car enthusiasts who have owned REAL cars who really race not supid little fuckin' rice rockets with fart pipes and bench racing loser like you no one gives a fuck about.
do you think about what you say before you peck'n'seek away? you said the srt8 would win because it has a better pwr, but it lost, proving me wrong. but you didnt know that the cobra actually had a better pwr then the srt8. so thats make you wrong. and you obviously dont know what youre talking about, but if you think im a ricer im going to let you, cause that makes you an ignorant, near retarded, redneck, who would rather fuck his mother/sister then venture outside of the trailor park.
The SVO débuted in 1984 with an underrated 174 crank horsepower running 14PSI of boost. Practically 10 years older too! The Honda cannot compete with the SVO period! One of the best handling Mustangs produced from the factory as well!
dib07ce, are you caught in some kind of time space vortex? you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
For it's size Mustangs handle really well, you must not have driven them. I could outcorner you in my '04 Terminator no problem. I've driven Foxbodys to 30th anniversery edition. My wife worked for Honda, I've driven SI's too, they are a smaller vehicle. I'm sure a stock POS Dodge Neon could handle well too being so small, actually I know because I've driven one of those too.
congratulations you have one of the few mustangs with independent rear suspension, but every other mustang handles like a tractor because of its live axle, made to do only one thing, go straight.
Uh, I also owned a GT with live axles, as I've said before here, it aint like it's Flintstones shit, you know how to fuckin' drive they DO NOT handle like a tractor, that's just BS.
Many hotrods have live axles, they're also more durable for serious HP (those putting out 1000+).
F'n Crown Vics (THE POLICE) have live axles and don't have problems when they know how to drive.
If you don't know how to drive, Live Axle "isn't for you", now go away ricer troll, you obviously hate stangs.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well thank you captain. but a live axle will never handle as well as independent. and i know theyre durable, but only good for one thing. and who the fuck are you calling a troll you been talking as much shit as i have.
I got a 85 mustang svo and i seen alot of videos here of svo's and nobody has same dash as mine...Mine has circle gauges for everything mph rpm gas temp etc....what's the deal???
@srvblues00 Yea, so many people think that if you have more cylinders, the fun factor goes up.. WRONG! A strong nicely built 4cyilnder turbo is always loads of fun and besides, the top end and power band is so different from that of a v8. It's nice to see a v8 power die out at higher RPM and a little 2.3 just whizzing by... haha.
gadaum, that beast hauls i know about the 2.3 they can be dangerous just as much as they can be trash, an improperly tuned 2.3 will get beat by minivans but one dun correctly can really do damage like yours, i've raced v8 eighties stangs an most (not all)of the time i win, though always neva easy an it's in a t-bird, great job
I think the most that's been pushed from a 2.5L ( 2.5L is a factory stroked 2.3L) is little over 400hp in a ford ranger. That was before he cracked a sleeve pushing 30psi through it. He does have time slips of it running barely over 9 seconds in the 1/8th mile.
To get to 400hp on a 2.3 is not really that hard i believe stinger performance is pushin 700hp i have to check again, but you can look on this he's runnin 9's in the 1/4mile an doin wheelies on top of it an i believe somebody also got into the 8's from a 2.3 these engines push there's a bunch of 2.3's on here bustin ass
Stingers "project bolt on" was running 10.5's but now its being built for 9's.
Hubers stang hit 8.31? in the 1/4 and it took that much before the crank even bent... he's running a stock stroker crank from esslinger I believe (CAST!)
The injectors were 35lb stockers, a stock LA3 ECM, and a large VAM in the stock location in this video. I later experimented with a blow-thru VAM, and I got that working much better.
Just before I blew it up, I ran 22 psi on a T3/T4 hyrid. The factory turbo internals are actually pretty decent and will last as long as the tune is pretty good. My block was a factory block from an 88 Tbird TurboCoupe.
That's what I liked about it - pretty darn quick and still got 27-28 mpg! And not many people knew the potential. Should have seen it just before I blew it up the last time with a custom cam and a Turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid.. holy crap.. this video is slow in comparison. it was a beast!!

That's what I said at first, but the old 4 banger stangs were light and quick, especially when you slap a good turbo on em.

The old Mustang SHOs were 2.3 turbo 4s, and those things are easily made into beasts.

stock 2.3T comes with either 132 or 145hp. and they weigh 2850ish. compare that to the 92 civic si, 125hp weighing about 2300lbs. the extra 7/20 hp doesnt make up for 550lbs. and thats the old weak ass civic si. dont really want to compare to the new si, but just for shits and giggles it weighs the same as the little fox, but comes with 197hp. that ford 4cyl 8v pos cant compete with honda 4cyl. its a 2.3 and puts out the same power NA as a d15 one of hondas smallest engines and .8 liters smaller

ok ok, stop bench racing, I hate that shit.
I was wrong, comparing numbers and weight doesn't mean shit, I've learned.
dodgechryslersucks 2 years ago
actually the cobra has a better power to wieght then the srt8 by about 6%. and i'm pretty sure that the claimed 390 is at the wheels, which really messes up the ratio. cause the srt8 makes about 370 to the wheels. so in conclusion, i know power to weight ratio doesnt mean everything, there's gearing and traction, but you didn't prove your point.
dib07ce 2 years ago
dib07cd, dude, they're both AT THE crank. ALL manufacturers rate at the crank and guess what? Someone blew the whistle on Ford because due to factory exhaust restrictions they were putting out LESS than 390 at the crank!
I did prove my point, you just don't get it. Typical ricer shit.
Again stop! Anyone can sit there and say "this has this, that has that, these specs vs. these specs, I got this, I got that, this and that, this and that"
DOESN'T MEAN SHIT! Race, then you'll know!
dodgechryslersucks 2 years ago
typical illiterate mustang fuck, how can you argue when you cant even read. you through out a senerio to prove yourself but you proved yourself wrong, time and time again. do alittle reasearch before you start talking, better yet. go to your local library and read. just read.
ps. illiterate means you dont know how to read
dib07ce 2 years ago
shut up you little fart pipe ricer bitch, no one gives a fuck what you're saying. Proved myself wrong? Didn't prove anything wrong. Anything can look like anything on paper and while just talking shit until you actually run. You continued your bench racing which doesn't mean shit and still doesn't mean shit. .
There are real car enthusiasts who have owned REAL cars who really race not supid little fuckin' rice rockets with fart pipes and bench racing loser like you no one gives a fuck about.
dodgechryslersucks 2 years ago 3
do you think about what you say before you peck'n'seek away? you said the srt8 would win because it has a better pwr, but it lost, proving me wrong. but you didnt know that the cobra actually had a better pwr then the srt8. so thats make you wrong. and you obviously dont know what youre talking about, but if you think im a ricer im going to let you, cause that makes you an ignorant, near retarded, redneck, who would rather fuck his mother/sister then venture outside of the trailor park.

The SVO débuted in 1984 with an underrated 174 crank horsepower running 14PSI of boost. Practically 10 years older too! The Honda cannot compete with the SVO period! One of the best handling Mustangs produced from the factory as well!
Noejr10 2 years ago
that's saying a lot, since mustangs handling sucks, its like saying its the best handling tractor.
dib07ce 2 years ago
dib07ce, are you caught in some kind of time space vortex? you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
For it's size Mustangs handle really well, you must not have driven them. I could outcorner you in my '04 Terminator no problem. I've driven Foxbodys to 30th anniversery edition. My wife worked for Honda, I've driven SI's too, they are a smaller vehicle. I'm sure a stock POS Dodge Neon could handle well too being so small, actually I know because I've driven one of those too.
dodgechryslersucks 2 years ago 2
congratulations you have one of the few mustangs with independent rear suspension, but every other mustang handles like a tractor because of its live axle, made to do only one thing, go straight.
dib07ce 2 years ago
Their handling sucks? Maybe you just cant handle all that power son. Try a honda.
Noejr10 2 years ago 4
if i was your son id kill myself for having a pedofag as a father.
dib07ce 2 years ago
Uh, I also owned a GT with live axles, as I've said before here, it aint like it's Flintstones shit, you know how to fuckin' drive they DO NOT handle like a tractor, that's just BS.
Many hotrods have live axles, they're also more durable for serious HP (those putting out 1000+).
F'n Crown Vics (THE POLICE) have live axles and don't have problems when they know how to drive.
If you don't know how to drive, Live Axle "isn't for you", now go away ricer troll, you obviously hate stangs.
dodgechryslersucks 2 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
well thank you captain. but a live axle will never handle as well as independent. and i know theyre durable, but only good for one thing. and who the fuck are you calling a troll you been talking as much shit as i have.

26-27 mpg, but I wasn't able to keep my foot out of it for good mileage.. too much fun!
srvblues00 3 years ago
i want one of these engines, because i have wanted to build a fast muscle car that got over 24 mpg. and this will be fun
BeboAltizer 3 years ago
I got a 85 mustang svo and i seen alot of videos here of svo's and nobody has same dash as mine...Mine has circle gauges for everything mph rpm gas temp etc....what's the deal???

maybe it was orignially a Canada car?
gregger454 3 years ago
Well this is an 88 stang, and i believe in 87 or 88 they started with the one piece dashboards

what mods do you have it now?
myfuckingsigninname 3 years ago
I yanked the 2.3 engine about 3 years ago.. wanted to play with a 351w. Gotta admit, I wish I had never pulled the 2.3. It was a blast to drive!
srvblues00 3 years ago
how fast was the 0-60 with the 2.3T
BeboAltizer 3 years ago
you cna pull them out of old tbirds and merkurs if you find them. Theres a guy who runs 9's on the stock cast block. SVO's ftw.
AmericanHvyMetal 3 years ago
umm ok... so what mods do you have?
myfuckingsigninname 3 years ago
@srvblues00 Yea, so many people think that if you have more cylinders, the fun factor goes up.. WRONG! A strong nicely built 4cyilnder turbo is always loads of fun and besides, the top end and power band is so different from that of a v8. It's nice to see a v8 power die out at higher RPM and a little 2.3 just whizzing by... haha.

haha that things nasty
LordLeverette 3 years ago
gadaum, that beast hauls i know about the 2.3 they can be dangerous just as much as they can be trash, an improperly tuned 2.3 will get beat by minivans but one dun correctly can really do damage like yours, i've raced v8 eighties stangs an most (not all)of the time i win, though always neva easy an it's in a t-bird, great job
magnificent10304 3 years ago
I think the most that's been pushed from a 2.5L ( 2.5L is a factory stroked 2.3L) is little over 400hp in a ford ranger. That was before he cracked a sleeve pushing 30psi through it. He does have time slips of it running barely over 9 seconds in the 1/8th mile.
Magnuspire 3 years ago
To get to 400hp on a 2.3 is not really that hard i believe stinger performance is pushin 700hp i have to check again, but you can look on this he's runnin 9's in the 1/4mile an doin wheelies on top of it an i believe somebody also got into the 8's from a 2.3 these engines push there's a bunch of 2.3's on here bustin ass
magnificent10304 3 years ago
I'm going to punch you in the face
Stingers "project bolt on" was running 10.5's but now its being built for 9's.
Hubers stang hit 8.31? in the 1/4 and it took that much before the crank even bent... he's running a stock stroker crank from esslinger I believe (CAST!)

hey man i just got a thundebird turbo coupe with a 2.3turbo and i was wondering where did u get the computer???
dustinwaller87 3 years ago
Christ that thing pulls like a raped ape in every gear.
GaiaOnline777 3 years ago
what size injectors, computer are you using? are you using a large vam, or a small vam?
finalfantasyXyuna 3 years ago
The injectors were 35lb stockers, a stock LA3 ECM, and a large VAM in the stock location in this video. I later experimented with a blow-thru VAM, and I got that working much better.
srvblues00 3 years ago
how easy is it to tune that? I'll need to do that on my setup as well....

how much does it cost to modiefy a 2.3liter mustang like that ?
Madhouse2332 4 years ago
cheap if u know what your doing
n00bpwnerHS 3 years ago
Damn. 19.5 psi on stock internals? Was it a regular n/a 2.3 or an SVO/Turbocoupe/Merker motor?
thasssbruuutal 4 years ago
Just before I blew it up, I ran 22 psi on a T3/T4 hyrid. The factory turbo internals are actually pretty decent and will last as long as the tune is pretty good. My block was a factory block from an 88 Tbird TurboCoupe.
srvblues00 4 years ago
what was your base fuel pressure?
niffty 3 years ago
In that video, 40psi with the vacuum line off the regulator. I eventually worked my way to up needing 48psi with 42lb injectors. :)
srvblues00 3 years ago
i love this swap no one expects the 4cyl ass fucking mustang you can kill just about anything the 2.3 is a bad little motor that could
jerrett 4 years ago 4
That's what I liked about it - pretty darn quick and still got 27-28 mpg! And not many people knew the potential. Should have seen it just before I blew it up the last time with a custom cam and a Turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid.. holy crap.. this video is slow in comparison. it was a beast!!
