i have achieved 56 mpg (4.2 l/100km) with D4D diesel toyota corolla (90hp)along a yourney of 156 miles (250 km).the computer was reset before trip and after 156 miles ride it was reading 56 mpg.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Nice one buddy, no engine running that's smart.. you've got NO POWER BRAKES, NO POWER STEERING.. No Air Bags? Stupid Hypermilers.. doesn't make sense why you'd risk your life here or other people's lives. What if a deer ran out in front of you? Hard to use the power functions on your vehicle when its off.
I bet you drive 15 mph in a 50 zone like other hypermilers do too don't you... Why don't you just ride a bike.
In a brake boosted braking system, you get 3 solid uses of the brake before you require vacuum to the booster.. power steering is irrelivent with the ignition switch in the on position, still steers and wont lock.. airbags are on, the ignition is on, the engine isn't.. Thats the only difference..
I don't live in the land of "what if", I live in the now. You should visit..
haha.. visit the USA? We all know what a joke your country is. Enjoy your dwindling economy and crashing stock market! There was a point there where I could have bought 3 houses for the price of one here. The land of "now"? Its the land of now all right with corrupt governments, crooked schemes and bankrupt banks.... Stealing from peter to pay paul.
LOL, I'm not having any economic issues on my end.. Life is actually pretty good. I took up hypermiling against a friend of mine as a challenge to see who could pull the most out of a pickup.. Its all good.. I'm formally from upper Queensland.. This isn't my country.. ;)
Why do you only get 1200 or so MPG when traveling with the engine off? Shouldn't it be 9999? And why does the MPG vary depending on your speed when you're burning no gas? I have a scangauge but I don't cut the engine...I occasionally shift to neutral but that's it.
Nice video, do you have a clutch then? I have an older (94) toyota pickup, and I never know if I should just put it in gear then let the clutch out to get the engine going again, or if I should just turn it back on with the key. Any advice?
do you recomend using the clutch or the starter to turn the engine back on. my civic turns over right away so i dont like to roll start it at highway speed
if your at highway speeds a quick letting out of the clutch peddle wont even make the car flinch to start, less wear and tear on your starter.. just make sure you in 5th gear..
This is simple guys. He was obviously going down a hill to achieve most of this because he was coasting most of the time and when he was loosing speed he started the vehicle back up. When it was back up to speed turn the engine off. When the vehicle is off don't step on your brakes too much or it is very hard to stop. If you don't want to record any mileage on your car then don't turn the key back on.
when you have the engine off, your brake booster see's no vacuum so the power brakes only get about 2 or 3 decent uses before their too hard to be useful..
I make sure when I coast, i dont have any obsticles in front of me to stay as safe to myself as well as others..
Correct on brakes. Curious as to what vehicle this is and what is your average mpg is to work/school and back? If you go downhill one way, you must go back up that same hill.
yeah, this is BS. The speedometer drops to 0 MPH then back to 60 MPH at around 1:50. I want a Tacoma that goes from 0 to 60 in less than 1 second. COME THE FUCK ON!
I'm not sure this dignifies a response, but here goes anyway.
A speedometer is a function of wheel speed and cutting my engine does not reduce my speed to zero unless I turn off the electronics - and the car will not allow me to do this in neutral, only in park. Obviously his vehicle's gauge.
its because he turned the car off, no power = no electricity = no power to instruments = 0 mph . turn the car to on (engine still off) car gets electricity back = power to instruments = actual speed . try it yourself

Thanks, I ordered one. With as few miles as I drive, it will take forever to pay for itself. But then it will give instant gratification. So in that way it's good.
unfortunately doing this in automatics (especially FWD vehicles) will jack up our transmission. Next best option for us is to coast in neutral.

because it wasn't calibrated fully at the time.. (just got it)
also you'll notice the CPM is .003 insted of 9999 as well..

my jeep has an electric brake booster which does not require vacuum pressure, so I can shut the engine off and still have fully functional brakes.
JeepXJforever 3 years ago
@livnlif yes you very much want to keep the key in the run position, otherwise the steering wheel can lock...
abzdefg321123 2 months ago
@abzdefg321123 Steering wheel will only lock if you take the key out of the ignition.

only way i could see it dropping and going back up is if the truck was cut off and cut back on.

Nice example of P+G with Fas and a downhill coast.
Master of Puppets. :D

FAS?
did a little bit of EOC (ICE OFF)
my trucks areo doesn't do well with pulse and glide lol
DdgeShelby 3 years ago
Fas - Forced Auto Stop - it's taken from a hybrid's autostop. Forcing it (turning the ignition off) in a non-hybrid.
I think it may mean the same as EOC.
LameBums 3 years ago
how do you keep a constant speed with the engine off, i cant do that in my car unless im going downhill??

thats a part of it, downhill coasting..
thats how this was achieved..
