I cant help but to think how much games has been dumbed down since the late 90's, early 00's RPGs from Bioware and Black Isle. BG, PS:T, IWD etc. Todays RPG's dont even reach their toenails.

She is the most complex character in the game! It would be very entertaining to see her interact with the other characters. I wish Bioware would regain control of the D&D franchise to recreate the Baldur's Gate universe. Dragon Age simply is a pale copy of Baldur's Gate and the combat system is made for 12 yo kids. Besides, all the DA characters are BG inspired: Viconia = Morrigan, Imoen = Leliana, Haer'Dalis = Zevran, Anomen = Alistair, Jaheira = Aveline, Minsc = Oghren/Sten, etc... :P
@MyHeadAsplodes The first two I agree with, about jaheira I don't know, but Alistair isn't Anomen (he lacks the stick up the ass and is a lot funnier), Zevran isn't Haer'Dalis (Haer'Dalis is a poet and Zevran is a male whore, come on) and there definitely isn't anyone as much of a goofball as Minsc. If anything, Sten reminds me a lot of Valygar. Even the hatred against mages is the same. I agree with you on a level of style though, they are pretty much the same as you said, but not at character.
Had all three of them in my party and started a romance with each. that was a bitchfight, very amusing. just sad that i finally decided to pick jaheira (who is by far the most interesting one) but since it takes forever to get through all of her dialogues i was done with the game before the romance finished. :(
I have many friends, have enjoyed success with girls and am excelling in school. Still , the best time of my life so far I spent in Athkathla. Looking back I don't even remember sitting in my room in front of the PC, I was out there alongside Imoen, Aerie, Minsc and Jan, kicking asses and taking names.
Makes me sad for three reasons. first one : there were only 4Baldurs gate games and second : that romance is hardest but still quite easy in my opinion. and third : my current PC cant roll BG2 (i can still play it while using laptop)
Okay, I spent the last hour on YT listening to various tracks of the game. I guess I now have a urge to replay it for the 50th time... And oh boy will it be time well spent.
in The Legend Of Drizzt Do'Urden (Book 1), all the DeVir house was exterminated by the Do'Urden House, and the last survivor was killed in the Book 2...
i don't know why a member of the DeVir House are alive AND on the surface...
@MrFrenchCadillac It's one of the many inconsistencies in BG2. There are several places where the game doesn't match up to P&P and the novels. The Cowled Wizards, the Twisted Rune, the timeline making it impossible to have met Drizzt outside Amn, the way several minor NPCs are portrayed, and so on. I have to ignore those things when I play.
@Seagloom Well, there are a few "mistakes" about BG2, but Viconia's survival is not outside of it. In BG2 it is answered how Viconia survived the destruction of her house and was believed killed together with the rest of her family. Shar (for some to me still unknown reason) helped to hide her from eyes that were searching for her, and it was believed she died together with the rest of her house while she got out of there, by sacrifice of her brother who bought her time to escape to the surface.
@Seagloom What about the giant holes in space time, the entropy portals, and all the mystical beings found throughout Amn? Can't they contribute to the fantasy in regards of "making things happen"?
@Seagloom I usually disjoint book canon and game canon in my mind... kind of like how the Batman: Arkham Asylum graphic novel and video game are both completely different but are influenced by the same things. Same universe, but when you're creating a game, it's good to be able to go in your own direction with things.
@MrFrenchCadillac Given the pure chaos of Drow politics, it wouldn't be too surprising if one other just happened to get out. And since Viconia no longer follows Lloth, it is possible that, like Drizzt, she could have been ignored by Lloth for a while. It's rather far-fetched, but not impossible.
@MrFrenchCadillac House DeVir was killed off yes, but I it comes out in the Viconia romance that Viconia fled to the surface after causing her house to lose Lolth's favor. I think that implies that she was the reason that House Do'Urden thought they could get away with attacking House DeVir to begin with. Viconia was long gone at that point and no threat to the Do'Urdens anyway since she was an outcast and on the surface. They probably figured she was dead and she didn't matter anyway.
@ARKdeEREH So in that sense, no I don't see the conflict. Viconia left and then all of House DeVir that remained was wiped out thereafter. Much in the same sense that House Do'Urden itself was wiped out eventually too, although Drizzt himself is obviously still alive, but he's on the surface and out of Lolth's favor, so neither he nor anyone else cares that technically he's still a Do'Urden noble and could rat out those who killed the family he despised.
@MrFrenchCadillac She could have easily escaped beofre all the facts in the Drizzit books happened, we have no clear indication on how far she's been a runaway before you encounter her.
I actually just saved her from being burned in the governemt district ( My first time playing BG) and I´m considering having her in the party, she seems pretty cool :)

Therefor, Viconia wearing some full platemail, a nice heavy shield, Crom Faeyr and such and watch her bash heads in like no tomorrow while she uses her useful spells.
I use to play a dark-skinned elf (obviously a drow; but based on Zaknafein instead of Drizzt). Viccy was the best choice for my character. man I gotta play this game another time soon, i'm starting to miss it talking about it.
Too bad you cant have her and Keldorn at the same time in the party since hes a damn good Paladin and Carsomyr rocks! But Viconia(and Edwin)is probably the most useful character in the game(too bad that shes a bit bitchy if you know what i mean)
@Mannetasi - Edwin is so overpowered it hurts. >.< I think Anomen makes a better cleric than Viconia though. She has high magic resistance, but that and her bonus spells cannot compare to Anomen's extra attack per round and grandmastery. Anomen also explodes undead at higher levels rather than dominating them. I find that more useful. Still, she is a great support character and has an amusing, if at times intolerably abrasive personality. ;)
@Seagloom well you make a good point Anomen has the advantage over the undead and he has more strength and constitution than Viconia but she has way more dexterity, more Intelligence(if that really matters), way more Wisdom and WAY more spellslots and to me thats more important since Undead doesnt appear during most of the game. He is good but prefer Viconia.
And by the way speaking Edwin he has SO many spellslots he can't learn Divination spells but still he is useful as hell!
@Mannetasi - To each their own as they say. :) 18 Wisdom only gives Viccy bonus spells up to fourth level. It is handy early on, but by chapter four I find them mostly irrelevant except for a few like Armor of Faith and Draw Upon Holy Might. Another thing I forgot is Viconia cannot cast Holy Smite until her late game alignment change without hurting herself. As a matter of personal taste I find she trails behind every other divine caster except maybe Cernd. That said, Anomen is very annoying. ;)
@Seagloom Viconia can also be kidna annoying. Especally when you have a character with high reputation. I have about 19 now and she sometimes say that she has no desire to remain in the company but always when she is about to leave the party she always asks if she can rejoin me.
Or even worse, if you'll try to keep him at bay and make to pass the test, he'll be damn lawful good, and since evil team rocks and you want Edwin for super easy boss kills, Viconia is like only choice for cleric slot, except if you're playing one of course, which I don't like - my tactics is to get fighter as high as mastered 2h sword and 2h weapon style and then switch to thief to make Carsomyr usable for me:] Also - Viconia has the best romance plot if you're interested in that.
@MrLestatto - I think it's a matter of play style. Edwin is a godly mage, but I like to play sorcerers. Their cast without memorization set-up makes him obsolete. Korgan is very strong, but Anomen tops him when fully buffed and Keldorn can swing Carsomyr. Jaheira is also a very strong tank and can still take up Viconia's healing role. I think the evil characters are kind of overrated with the exception of Sarevok in ToB. Also gotta say I prefer Jaheira's romance to Viccy's.
This beats skyrim any day.

When playing as a Good human it's always a game of wits and morality with Viconia.
Whether to give in, or hope she can change without being overbearing about it.
Wonderful writing makes it all the way.
