@vahedah 5 minutes is not enough to judge someone's acting ability. there will be different opinions and these will derive from the person's own preferences, history and attitudes towards the performance. if one person chooses sridevi over madhuri or vice versa, that shouldn't affect you in any way coz they will have their own point of view just like you have yours. i agree, madhuri is a fantastic actress, but acting wise i think sridevi has the upper hand.

@sheru7meraa7naam Actually Madhuri is a very good dancer, no doubt abot that. But she isn't the best in the history of Bollywood. That title belonged only to Vyjayanthimala, Padmini, Ragini and Kamala. Even Meenakshi Seshadri was a better dancer than Madhuri. Madhuri was one of the excellent dancers of her generation and no one after her was up to par. So Madhuri still i believe in my opinion, is the best till todate.
@tonynaso meenakshi was very good too but in their duet "shaadi mubarak" (meenakshi and madhuri) i found madhuri to have more grace and control over her movements... madhuri i feel is the most versatile, but without a doubt the ones u mentioned were awesome for sure... i particularly like vyjayanthimala

yep Meenakshi was a little stiff and Mads was better herre. Could it be coz Meena is Bhartnatyam trained and Mads Kathak trained? Nonetheless, they were both excellent dancers. Meenakshi's best dance is in Damini where she did the tandave. Fantastic dance
@tonynaso maybe...kathak is a more graceful and fluid dance form (as far as i know)... i didn't know meenakshi was trained bharatnatyam... she is however one of the best dancers india has had...i've seen sridevi's bharatnatyam style dances too her movements are so precise and on point, she's just excellent

@vahedah No I would totally disagree. She never had any versatile role. Pukar??? what versatility was there? not in her character nor in her look. Why we don't forget that this is Madhuri acting on screen?? In Pukar Anil Kapoor was terrific, he was excellent. I didn't like her in Devdas and Mrityudand as well. Here I'm not talking about box office success but about that particular role which she will shine with.

She was the first actress to get filmfare award for Tamil (Moondam Kokila) , She has two for Hindi and one for Telugu (Kshana Kshanam). Which shows she is too good that no matter what language she works in. in the 1990s she is the only actress in that decade who got her award for a flop movie while others got it for popular hits. What does that tell you? but again I have to tell you FF is not criteria
@halimali yes i agree with you about filmfare awards..recently at Filmfare SRK and Kajol won repectively for their roles in My Name Is Khan. In my opinion Hrithik was a better choice for Guzaarish and Aishwarya as well. Even Vidya was awesome in Ishqiya. But the award went to Kajol who in my opinion is a good actress but in My Name is Khan, she hammed in her role and it wasn't award worthy. So, yes Filmfare awards are no big deal..SRK has more than Aamir..but Aamir is a better actor..

Sridevi was a more seasoned experienced, versatile artiste of her time. Madhuri had a good voice and had good facial expressions also, but she was not a versatile artiste as Sri. Madhuri was a terrific dancer though.

There are more chances of Kajol liking Sridevi simply because she thinks Sridevi is better. As for era, Sridevi's 2nd b wood movie, Himmatwala released in 1983 and Madhuri's 1st movie, Abodh in 1984. Sridevi is not that senior to Madhuri.

@vahedah 5 minutes is not enough to judge someone's acting ability. there will be different opinions and these will derive from the person's own preferences, history and attitudes towards the performance. if one person chooses sridevi over madhuri or vice versa, that shouldn't affect you in any way coz they will have their own point of view just like you have yours. i agree, madhuri is a fantastic actress, but acting wise i think sridevi has the upper hand.

after giving it much thought.... i have decided the following:
Acting wise Madhuri vs Sridevi = SRIDEVI ... because sridevi has done more versatile roles and has a lot of work to her credit... and she set trends for the next generation of actresses. Madhuri is still, in my opinion, an excellent actress but Sridevi is her senior and in a separate league.
Dancing Madhuri vs Sridevi - MADHURI. Sridevi's expressions are awesome, but madhuri wins hands down.

That title belonged only to Vyjayanthimala, Padmini, Ragini and Kamala. Even Meenakshi Seshadri was a better dancer than Madhuri. Madhuri was one of the excellent dancers of her generation and no one after her was up to par. So Madhuri still i believe in my opinion, is the best till todate.

yep Meenakshi was a little stiff and Mads was better herre. Could it be coz Meena is Bhartnatyam trained and Mads Kathak trained? Nonetheless, they were both excellent dancers. Meenakshi's best dance is in Damini where she did the tandave. Fantastic dance

Why we don't forget that this is Madhuri acting on screen?? In Pukar Anil Kapoor was terrific, he was excellent. I didn't like her in Devdas and Mrityudand as well. Here I'm not talking about box office success but about that particular role which she will shine with.

She was the first actress to get filmfare award for Tamil (Moondam Kokila) , She has two for Hindi and one for Telugu (Kshana Kshanam). Which shows she is too good that no matter what language she works in. in the 1990s she is the only actress in that decade who got her award for a flop movie while others got it for popular hits. In my opinion Hrithik was a better choice for Guzaarish and Aishwarya as well. Even Vidya was awesome in Ishqiya. But the award went to Kajol who in my opinion is a good actress but in My Name is Khan, she hammed in her role and it wasn't award worthy. So, yes Filmfare awards are no big deal..SRK has more than Aamir..but Aamir is a better actor..

There was always someone more deserving in those years not necessarily Sridevi. even for some nominations like Saajan, Khal Nayak etc she was the least deserving and there were better performances and more deserving the nominations. Even being a die hard Sridevi fan, I would make an honest statement here-Rekha deserved Padmas way back before Sridevi or Madhuri Dixit if Padmas are really given for contribution to Indian cinema. So sad state of affairs that Rekha and Saif get Padmashri together. Does that put Saif and Rekha in the same league? Is Aishwarya more talented than Rekha or Sridevi or Madhuri Dixit ?

rekha has huge contibution but lets face facts sridevi and madhuri have set the bar so high that i am afraid no actress could ever do more than them ash is good but not as talented as either sridevi or madhuri sri and madhuri where men in bollywood who gauranteed box office success even when casted with commoners do u think ash can get a super hit if she if not casted with hrithik sharakh or salman name them. when talk of raw talent dancing and acting only two names mahuri and sridevi

Just a point. Even Aishwarya was conferred Padma Shri and on the Filmfare Power list also. Does that make her better than Madhuri? I love Ash and am a loyal fan but i also love Madhuri and Ash is miles behind Madhuri in acting and dancing. Have i made my point??!!

ur right we cannot compare ash to madhuri cos there is no comparison there is no way ash can do madhuri`s accomplishment.the thing with modern day actresses is that they mostly have looksthats all one can act very well but can`t dance as well like rani some are just average in bot like ash in the history of bolly wood only two actresses have made a goog combination of both dancing and acting madhuri and sridevi hema could dance but nothing like madhuri or sridevi .

so that doesn't make Sri a bad actor and MAds better..Sri is more versatile whereas MAds was good especially in her dancing..no one of that decade comes close..her facial expressions being a trained dancer was superb. Her body language and voice modulation excellent. But Sri was more versatile. I personally love both of them..but IMHO...Madhs is a good actress, the best dancer of her time and probably now too, but Sri was a class apart..

i believe both Sridevi and Madhuri were good in their own way. Both divas as far as i am concerned. But if Kajol preferred Sri over Madhs then thats her choice and prerogative. So there should be no arguments over preference.

I agree, also Kajol started her career at a time when Madhuri had just risen and became established, so they pretty much acted in the same era, and if I'm correct, then naturally Kajol would be a fan of Sr's because she is a little before her era/

There are more chances of Kajol liking Sridevi simply because she thinks Sridevi is better. As for era, Sridevi's 2nd b wood movie, Himmatwala released in 1983 and Madhuri's 1st movie, Abodh in 1984. Sridevi is not that senior to Madhuri.

buddy, you havent seen Sridevi the teenager. you won't believe what you see. Btw, sridevi had undergone a nose surgery before making it to Bollywood. I think Meenakshi was a far more natural beauty than Sri. Having said that, I must say Sri has turned into a bible for this generations of actresses.

However I think that Sridevi's beauty comes from the different ways she portrayed the different characters. Sri before or after nose surgery was the same superstar.

Its indeed difficult to be Sridevi. She worked very hard since the age of 4 throughout her career. She supported her family. She lost her parents at a young age. Sri is standing tall at 5ft 7 inches , curvy, peach complexion, moon face, flawless skin and has the most gorgeous eyes.You guys can't tolerate her looking so beautiful at this age so she is botoxed?
