  • wo find ich die noten davon?

  • lang lang

    he is my idol

  • man!!! i could hardly hear the thirds in between the octaves!!!

its suppose to give an effect,.

  • I think he is great. He makes every piece his own. Sure, he may play it faster than most people but I still think he shows musicality such as at 0:54

  • wow that fast :)

  • I have a recording of Rachmaninov playing this same piece. He plays it nothing like Mr Lang Lang. Sometimes LL just bangs about on the keyboard when there is no need for it. The idea of - oh just look how fast I can play this piece of music - just does not work for me at all. LL is very gifted, of that there is no doubt. Age may make him an even better pianist when he slows down a little.

  • if lang lang only had one finger he can play the circus galop something that would take chuck norris a long time to practice lol

  • unique!!!!

  • Bang Bang par excellence! Yet again, the Chinese Clown turns a fine piece into a disgusting self-display of bravura. No composer deserves such treatment, Rachmaninoff least of all. I often have the impression that there is absolutely no communication between the fingers and the brain of the Creature - in case there are any traces of the latter at all.

  • I think that he is a pretty good pianist but his only talent is the speed and this amazing execution. He does not play with feelings like other great pianists. He's nothing compared with Horowitz or Kissin. Lang Lang should think about the story the music tells.

  • oh dear I entirely regret clicking this.

    speed ≠ talent

  • @dmzchr I agree with speed not being the same as talent. But if something is played fast it doesn't necessarily mean it's not played by a talented musician. Lang lang is a good musician (and technician, BOTH) in my honest opinion.

  • Ambitious technician with no idea about the music he plays! Poor Rachmaninoff. I wouldn't even mind Lang Lang's exaggerated physical movements if he was as great a pianist as he thinks he is. Tragically he is not. He is just a substandard musician with some fine motor skills which, in fact, makes him a mechanic rather than an artist.

  • @Seleuce I'm no big fan of Lang Lang, nor am I trying to disagree with your comment, but how would you define artistry in piano playing for me? I'm entirely self-taught and not that good (I can barely just keep up with playing the notes themselves correctly up to speed in classical music), so I would be interested to know what you think qualifies a pianist as truly great.

  • @mitsubachi2 You ask a difficult question. I don't have enough space to answer this as fully as I'd like to but I'll try. I belong to the self-taught league, too, and probably you have better skills than I have. ;) But in my opinion technique is not the point, nor whether a listener is a professional musician or not. To play technically correctly doesn't necessarily make you a better musical person than the woman next door who never touched an instrument.

  • Lang Lang, being an amazing technician, is often called "virtuoso" and "very expressive". That is mainly what I disagree with. For me he lacks dynamics, clarity, the ability to define nuances and give soul to the music. His performances bore me. Virtuosos are dramatically rare, they always have been. The word is used far too often I think. For me, a virtuoso unites all important skills and talents in one person.

  • Deep musical understanding and being capable to express it, balance, flawless technique and the ability to reach the listener, not just to stun with dexterity like a trick artist. I can't talk about others but, for me, however, a truly great musician doesn't have to be a virtuoso. It's wonderful but not essential. A great musician is able to perform music which makes me laugh, cry, thoughtful, relaxes me, touches me. I don't want to hear how difficult to play a particular piece is.

  • Finger technique is important but just a tool like scissors for a hairdresser. Essential, yet it is not the main artistry. A great musician makes you forget about the technique. All you hear is the music. I can't with Lang Lang. All I hear in his interpretations is the many hours of daily practice which he probably does. Nice. But I heard hundreds before him with quick fingers.

  • Bang Bang living up to his name again!!

  • @pianoplayer6565 haha , nice nickname

  • Lang Lang is great!
