actually Bill Millin played his bagpipe on the coast of Normandy during d-day boostin the moral of allied forces and wasn't shot by the german snipers because they thought he was crazy
Indeed. I even think that, on D-Day, he wore the same kilt and played the same bagpipe his father used, some 30 years before him, during the First World War.
@NathanAndrewLonsdale Well, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada or the Essex Scottish Regiment, to be precise. Canadians, none the less. Tank support is from 14th Canadian Army Tank Regiment (Calgary Regiment).
The Tune at 2.50 is called Going Home Dvoraks New World Symphony. "Going Home" is an old Negro song, its said, based on an old man in his final days who sees his own death. A beautiful piece, with a really nice version by Libera (als...
Great vid makes me proud to be scottish and even British.
Remember the 2 scottish regiments under wellington at the battle of assaye them and 3 native regs defeated an army 10 times it size the highlangers (the 74th and 78th) just marched under the enemy cannons took them them walked on the the infantry fired a 2 vollys charged and won. the 74th have 3 colours the kings, the regimental and the Assaye colour
Whenever I ask the question, why do we go to war? The answers seem totally unconvincing. I think we go to war at the behest of the rich in order that they remain rich. War is about money and it always has been. Notions of glory and bravery are constructs to con the cannon fodder into dying for the rich bastards who send them to kill and be killed. When the soldiers come home they are ignored and marginalized. Most of the homeless are fromer soldiers.
after theyy were disgraced they lost thier red plume on thier bonnets and were given white ones cause they retreated the next battle they fought they were outnumbered 3 to 1 and took the town they dipped the white plumes in the enemys blood to show that they were no cowards and never should of been handed the white plume
@UnkilGed thanks! i heard that in a movie and a few other places and never could find out what it was called.

what's the song after scotland the brave?? anyone??
GuibblesBroseph 4 months ago
@GuibblesBroseph
The tune played after Scotland the Brave is ""Going Home" originally from Dvorak's 9th symphony 3rd movement.
The sheet music for Going Home can be found in The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) Pipe Music on page 4
