i still love this game, about a month ago i re-bought this game for the dreamcast since i did not own it when i was younger but instead borrowed it from a guy i knew. My dreamcast later broke and it wasn't until a year ago that i bought another one from a Goodwill for 10 dollars (yes i'm not kidding only 10 dollars with all of the cables and whatnot) and it took me a while to get games for it i only have about 6 games atm, but i plan on getting more, but this game for me was a must to get.
@SideSmash It may not "feel" that way to you--but that's exactly what it is (like most Sonic Team games). It's all about replaying the levels and score attacking, time attacking, ring attacking, doing the different missions, finding all the routes. It's usually not even that much fun to play through the first time.
@EkajTheSwordsman I agree about replaying the levels, but not once has a Sonic game ever felt like an arcade game to me (and I have played many, many arcades). Then again, if we wanted to argue about this, we'd have to analyze what an arcade game is supposed to be and what distinguishes it from consoles, both physically and philosophically.

I think what I loved most about this game was the multiple perspectives for the story mode. I'm a sucker for that narrative structure (goes all the way back to 21 Jump Street) and this one threw in something fun by actually having the dialogue in overlapping scenes change slightly depending on which character you play, almost like everyone's recall is a little different.
It had glitches, and was overall a bit dodgy, control-wise, but I love it in spite of those things.
that is why I love ClassicGameRoom. he explains his honest opinion without sparking controversy, after he expresses his opinion he gives recommendations to people who would probably want to play it. Unlike a certain guy with long hair who likes ocarina of time (sry to have to do this to you Derrick, your kool, but you spark way to much controversy.
@GamerNinjaX I feel he didn't know enough about Sonic history to review this game. He didn't show any game play of other characters and they're pretty different. Plus those "little monster things" are called Chao which tells me he didn't play this game to its fullest potential if he didn't even know what they're called.
@manlyskittles I know what those things are called, and I disliked that part of the game and ignored it except for my pride in at least trying. The chao garden is totally optional, and can be completely avoided. It only adds to the game if you enjoy it. So that has nothing to do with its full potential. Nor would history be important especially at the time the game released. You do have one point in that he didn't talk about the gameplay for the other characters.
if you do a comparison between the xbox 360 version and the dreamcast version you might notice that the xbox 360 version is alot more touchy than the original one.

I bought a Dreamcast yesterday, sadly the laser on it is melted but I'm working on fixing it. Once I get it fixed I'm gonna get this and Sonic Adventure 2. I have them on the gamecube but I want to have the original versions.
This game came out when I was two years old. I used to play it with my dad when I was about that age. (he played for me at the time). But after a while, I played for myself. So I kinda grew up with this game. I agree the camera angles are a bit awkward, but I still play it today. I would have to say it is my favorite game(:
This game actually had a surprisingly deep story. When E-102 kills himself, I was actually pretty moved. I also thought Amy's girly personality was charming as well as Tails summoning up all his bravery to defeat Eggman on his own. The conclusion with Super Sonic was epic. This game has a lot of shortcomings but it's worth slogging through in my opinion because the overall experience is quite good.
@Dreamewalker I definitely agree on E-102. It was the first story I've played in a video game where I was pretty touched. Few games since then have actually been able to do so.

@johanneszero1990 The Gamecube version of DX seems to have more bugs than normal and a screwy frame rate to boot. The PC version of DX is probably the best, although I havn't played the PSN port yet. The camera does kinda suck either way, but I still love it anyways!

Yeah this is better on the sega dremacast because SOnic looks more shinier, and his shoes aren't misshaped, and the graphics looks better on the sega dremacst. So yeah. I use to have this on the dreamcast years ago and now it's lost somewhere. But soon hopefully i'll be getting it online or something. I have the GameCube version but it's not better than original port. But it's close enough.
I like this game, i only played it on the dreamcast but i personaly believe its still just as god on the game cube, this is one of my favorite sonic games of all time, my favorite was SA2 mainly because it was much smoother, and lets face it, the chao garden was amazing.

The Dremcast version is away superior graphically to the DX Port, better lighting, textures, framerate, man its even better then the new HD Port which is DX in steroids... Still, cool game on the 360 and ps3, but if you have the Dreamcast version, the port is kind of pointless, looks worst and i noticed it to be more glitch, wile the DC version was flawless,

I use to have this on the dreamcast years ago and now it's lost somewhere. But soon hopefully i'll be getting it online or something. I have the GameCube version but it's not better than original port. But it's close enough.

I like this game, i only played it on the dreamcast but i personaly believe its still just as god on the game cube, this is one of my favorite sonic games of all time, my favorite was SA2 mainly because it was much smoother, and lets face it, the chao garden was amazing.

This game is a legend, ever since i got rid of my dream cast 7 years ago i still want one, but to be honest i still think they are probly one of the best consoles out.
Shadow man, sonic adventure and tropic thunder were what made dreamcast :D

The Dremcast version is away superior graphically to the DX Port, better lighting, textures, framerate, man its even better then the new HD Port which is DX in steroids... Still, cool game on the 360 and ps3, but if you have the Dreamcast version, the port is kind of pointless, looks worst and i noticed it to be more glitch, wile the DC version was flawless,

@socillizt4life I guess the controller and zelda thing is just opinion. Same with Shenmue, personally, I don't really like the game. Paper mario for the n64 is (in my opinion) THE BEST GAME EVER MADE. yes, I think its better than Skies of Arcadia. Liking the Dreamcast I guess is just opinion based....

SONIC IS AWESOME

I LOVED sonic adventure and I definitely LOVED SA2 Battle. I wish Sonic could turn back in time to those days... when I was a child, I was waiting for a Sonic Adventure 3... I'm still waiting, Sega.

@socillizt4life online gaming was going to come along anyway, dreamcast's online capabilities were nothing mind blowing. I said the CONSOLE was awful. Just look at the cheap controller with the cheap analog stick with the cheap triggers and gimmicky -controller-memory-card-with a monitor thing. The dreamcast had nothing compared to it's competitors. Which game on the dreamcast could compete with final fantasy 7, paper mario, mario 64, OCARINA OF TIME, so many games. think about it.

@Zeegoner Ok,I had an N64 & PS2 AT THE SAME TIME AS MY DREAMCAST,SO I'M NO FANBOY WITH AN AXE TO GRINDI'll give you your point about the d-pad being terrible,but the controller as a whole was nowhere near as bad as u make out!As far as the games you mention,Shenmue is the most perfectly produced game I've ever played,Sky of arcadia is a better rpg than FFVII,I'll give u Mario64 over sonic adventure,Ocarina of time is GR8 but not as good as Phantasy star onlineIMO(the 1st online rpg on a console)

@Zeegoner That's not even including all the arcade conversions that SEGA were in a league of thier own at!House of the dead,Sega rally,Daytona U,S,A,& so on.It also had the best collection of beat em ups on any console b4 or since!I've owned the Sega master system,NES,Super NES,SEGA MEGADRIVE,Sega saturn,Playstation1&2,N64,X-BOX & X-BOX360 & the Dreamcast is the best console I've EVER owned!

the sonic adventure games were fucking awful
i have adventure 2: battle for the cube and it sucks balls
its like 1/3 mediocre racing levels
1/3 boring as ass on-rails shooter levels
and 1/3 (possible the worst gameplay ever in a videogame) gem hunting stages

@sonicromer telling by your username and your post, I can automatically tell that you're a fanboy and that you didn't get the yellow light of death from the ps3. Ps3 never fails unless you act like an idiot with it, like press the power button in the middle of gameplay. The dreamcast console is awful along with the controllers, and only has 4 good games: sonic 1 and 2, mvc2, and crazy taxi for some people...
