I reset the brake sensor that you showed on the screen and now it shows ---- where the mileage should be instead of the number of miles and the red "brake" warning light is on. How do I fix??

This was v helpful... I saved about $350 changing my brake pads and rotors elsewhere and not at the dealer and was able to reset the light myself saving another $85 that the dealer wanted to charge just for the reset, unbelievable !!!

Also, I have a 2006 325i. I called the service center where I take my car for oil changes. They quoted me high 300 for brake pads and if I needed rotors I would have paid high 500. So my best friend said NO! I went to Autozone here in Houston, told the the type of car I have and what I needed. My pads were about $120 (cant remember) sensors I bought from dealer $57 He changed them and I reset the warning sign. I paid him $50 bucks and im good to go! HUGE SAVINGS!

i just bought my 325i and i was looking at oil service it says next oil change isint due for next 18,000 miles to me thats wayyyyyy to long for a oil change is there any way to set a desierd milage like can i pick the milage i want to do it on and change it to every 5000 miles?

Under both front and rear brake lights it only reset the mls... Now it shows ----------- instead of the miles left until 0

I was able to reset the service light and micro filter... But the front and rear break pads won't reset. I've had the pads and rotors changed but haven't put in the new brake sensors... Could this be the reason why it won't reset the lights?

@ewwies I believe so! I had the same problem. I went to the dealer and boutght the two break sensors. I had my friend put them on then I played with the reset again and it worked

devicede your right it is the microfilter not the coolant, there is no warning for coolant on an E90, coolant is changed every 4 years and is logged in the service book :)

thanks bro.. I haave a 2006 BMW 325I.. i had to start the engine to reset the service light. When I push in the button in the instrument panel.. it didn't show up the list of items that failed, so I tried the engine on and tried your procedure and it worked.

Actually there is a mistake here. I dunno how/why but I have a 2006 bmw e90 330i sport pkg. 6spd manual. I had to start the car in order to reset the things high lighted in red/yellow.

Actually I did the same procedure while the motor was on, and just lost the data for the brake pad back side. now it shows the red light for the brake pads and its emply & no kilometer is written there........ any suggestion??????

@wkupike2000 thats because if you reset the brakes, you can fool the computer but you cannot fool the sensor, so as soon as you reset it and start going on the way, the sensor will emit a warning cause the sensor has to be changed each time tou change the pads.

@Calogeno yeah....I also had the same issue...and now I'd have to change new brake pad sensors to get the warning light off...even though my brake pads are all good...so guys...DON'T TRY TO RESET THE BRAKE PAD !

HELP ME! Basically my 320d BMW (2005) needs a emmision test done. Can this be done at any garage? Or, does it need to be a specialist BMW garage?

Also, what are the most likely reasons it would fail a emmission test? And, how much would it cost to repair? Please answer asap, if anybody can :)

My brake pads on my E91 (wagon) 2006 320 tells me to change the pads. I tried once, when it had 1700 kms left, but when I reset it, the mileage on the brake pad service is " - - - - - ".

Any suggestions as to what I have to do, apart from ultimately visiting a dealer?
