  • i just some new baby chicks today, 3 barred rocks, 3 golden laced wyandottes, 3 silver laced wyandottes. soo cute! ♥

  • @shmelabellaXD congratulations!!! have fun with them!

  • @Hawise1 i will & thank you :)

  • just a tip: their feet freeze very easily, so i would not let them run around in the snow.

  • @shmelabellaXD thanks very much :) I won't let them out when it goes below -10 celcius and I've been raising chooks for around 12 yrs now and they've always had free-choice to run outside in the snow on the "warmer" days and haven't had a problem with their feet yet, but thank you! these are my beloved babies :)

  • @Hawise1 your welcome :)

gosh, i'm soo excited i'm getting more baby chicks on wednesday!! :)

  • what kind of chickens are they , i just start to build my small chicken coop but i don't know what kind of chicken to buy, well winter is coming soon so i just want to make sure to buy chickens that can live in the cold thanks reply please

  • @wanditawandita37 hi, these are Plymouth Barred Rock chickens they are friendly birds, and live a long time! I have also bought Rhode Island Reds or Red Shaver Sex-Links, Buff Orpingtons, Langshans, Australorps, Old English Game (tiny banties), Polish, Silkies, Sebrights (banties), Columbian Rocks, Cochins etc...I can't remember all the breeds I have raised lol. I find the Barred Rocks and the Reds, Chochins and Opringtons are very friendly, oh and the Silkies!

    Good luck and have fun!

  • they dont know wat 2 do

  • I have one barred rock 2 week old and she was the first to learn how to fly/perch.

SOo cute! She loves to sit on my lap too. I love this breed <3

  • Kittypower, those are 100% Barred Rocks. Look up Slws, and then BRs and you'll see the difference.

Beautiful hens! It makes me want to get some rocks, I currently have Buff Orpingtons. I might pick up some silkies or another breed soon.

  • No offence but Are you sure those are barred rock? they sure look like silver lace whyandotte. Oh well, they still are very cute though right? I remember the winter of 07, one our roosters was left out in an icestorm, his feet were frozen to the ground :( now he has no toes, and he hobbles around on his stumpy feet like an old man. that is why we call him grandpa

You have very beautiful healthy bulky Chickens by the way! :D

  • They are beautiful hens! Plymouth Barred Rock are my favorite...

  • I bought four chicks today, so tiny , so hungry and thirsty, I try to cuddle

them , they are soooooooo cute.

  • Congratulations to you!!! I'm so happy for you, you finally got them!!!! :) Thank you so much for letting me know and I hope all goes well with them for you.

It is fun to think up names for them also heeh!!! Thanks again and have a great day!

  • I am buying barred rock chicks this spring, they are lovely and I want good fresh eggs, you sound just like me , I am practicing the "chick chick" call, it is going to be fun to have chickens.

  • how wonderful! You'll have so much fun with them. The barred rocks are a gentle breed and very nice to handle (the hens usually "talk" to me, it's so cute!!!!

good luck and please let me know how it goes! :)

  • thank you, my sis and I chose this breed because we liked the look, so I was doing some research before we bought them just to make sure they would be a good chicken, your video is so cute I am already in love , we hope to purchase this weekend, the birds will be pets that lay yummy eggs and we will never ever eat them so we will name them, we still talk about where ti put the coop, I want it in the horse barn and sissy wants it near the house, I will let you know what happens.

  • yw! they are really really nice birds, you'll love them so much. Me too, I won't eat my birds and I have a lot of very old non-laying-egg hens that free-range and have a super life with the younger "kids" ahaha. We put ours into our horse barn, it was easier for me as I sold off my horses and the stalls were empty.

btw, my voice sounds like I have marbles in my mouth lol...my camera's sound card thing didn't record clearly..it is funny to hear my voice :)

thanks for keeping in touch! :)

  • Where do you live? I am going to get my first chickens this week and I am a little concerned about the winter. I live in central Arkansas and we usually have mild winters (cold but rarely snow). Do you think they will be ok or should I buy a heat lamp for them? Thanks!

  • I live in Ontario (Canada) and it can get pretty cold up here at times, and the chickens do really well!

They are in the insulated barn every night and on all the colder days (I won't let them out if it's too cold).

I only use a heat lamp for really young birds, not for the others and they are ok. I have heated water bowls now (as water would freeze in minutes otherwise). Combs sometimes get frozen, otherwise, they do ok!

Good luck, you'll have so much fun with them!

  • Wow, I was thinking north, but that is way up there! The coldest I can remember is 9 degrees and we all thought we were going to die! The hottest so far has been 110 during the summer. Mabey I should worry about thw heat instead, I know chickens need plenty of water!

  • this takes me back to when my granddad used his barred rock hen as a foster mother to his black east indie ducklings

  • how lovely! what a nice memory that would be for you. I had East Indie ducks as well, they were so cute!

  • he used them as showbirds

  • fun, I had bought my East Indies as show birds but I stopped doing the shows myself, didn't have the time anymore for it.

love poultry of all kinds :) (and of course waterfowl :) etc

  • Looks like they're in Canada. I heard the word meters instead of feet ;)

  • do you ever have problems with hawks or other predators? im getting some chickens and i live in a pretty cold area but when its not cold we're worried that our younger pullets will be kinda vulnerable
