  • Why am I listening to the studio version of this song?

  • Awesome!! Its about time!!

  • Playback !!! But still awesome !!!

  • Nice sleeves, Rob.

  • Glenn invents "crabcore" in this video

  • I love that the studio audience is politely clapping along with the song. Hahahahaha!!

  • JP was WAAAAAAY better in the 70's

I discovered them when Sad Wings first came out when I was 15.

Sabbath was done, make room for the new kids on the block.

After British Steel, I quit caring and moved on.

Stained Class and Hell Bent are the BEST metal albums in history. Just sayin

  • @superspocko Agreed but you gotta add Screaming for Vengance to that list. It kinda set the tone for the early 80s. I heard that record everywhere I went beack then.

  • @superspocko I'm right there with you on that. Love Stained Class, their best work.

  • Listen, watch and learn, kids.

  • @dmnddog74 damn right man damn right

  • Great!

  • Ah.... um... wow ああ、はい、はい。

  • One of the bests band ever. I cried a lot of times when i hear that judas anounced them retirement. The Judas will always be in our hearts!

  • This song is an all-time classic but I do agree on the fact that it's obviously playback. Great video though.

  • @Icecross1976 Of course its not ! if your hear the drums in the start are pretty clear live

  • playback. bah.

  • Crazy crazy crazy. Awesome riff. And those vocals are mindbending. What makes it weirder is there are virtually no drums in the mix!

  • @MAGALTMALDITABASURA You're an idiot.

  • @TheDethKnell you´re an gay !!

  • So flamboyant.....but yet, SO METAL!!! \m/\m/

  • best era of priest!

  • Halford with hair is a bit scary.

  • Bow to your knees and repent if you please

  • Rob Halford with hair! And bellbottoms!

  • glenn with a LP...great :D

  • Rob Halford loved that Japanese cock.

  • @FuUberFu Mmm, mmm, goood.

  • great footage the audiece needs to chill on the clapping though. great soloi oh wait it was just chopped off wtf!!!TYHAT BLOWS CUTIING GLENN OF BASTARD!!

  • That little faggot he`s a millionaire & desevedly so ! Tipton & Downing got all the pussy

  • this may be lip-synced, but i love this song! :D

  • judas saxon bruxelles 1980 super souvenir

  • awesome footage

  • stop it with the dam hand clapping audience

  • The thing I love about 70s metal is that the guitar lines were just so melodic and memorable. It's the sounds and melodies of these solos that made me want to play guitar. It's a shame that metal guitar became all about speed and technique... People really don't play like this anymore.

  • 私がヘヴィーメタルに夢中になるきっかけにもなった番組です。

  • I do believe that they did a re-mix especially for this show, then lip-synced, air-guitar'd the whole thing. That sort of decision is largely out of the band's hands anyway. In any case, thanks for posting a great song by a great band.

  • Live vs recorded: - just to jump into the debate, I'll say the answer is not cut and dry. In the 70's (at least here in the West), when a band played on TV, the lead vocals were live, everything else was pre-recorded - even when the song fades out, and the musicians just stop playing. But this video of Exciter appears to be the OPPOSITE. Consider that Glenn's solo is not mixed well at all (sounds live), but Rob's vocals in the chorus are done with THREE-part harmony, all Rob, all in the studio.

  • @luteplayer111 I think it's all recorded, even the Glenn's guitar.

  • Imagine watching this on tv nowadays

  • From cloth to leather. Quite the exp boost.

  • THE AGE OF FIRE'S AT HAND

  • Thank you for valuable animation to which Rob doesn't become bald.

  • EXCELLENT promo-video !!!

  • I like Tipton's style. I like watching his hands.

  • The famous Ian Hill, always standing close to his amp and never take a chance to move further...

  • it does sound very much like the studio album version, but these fuckers rocked check out the other live versions

  • これ 当時観ました懐かしい

  • Kenny looks a lot like Michael Schenker from UFO in this concert, with the Flying V and all. 1951 was a great year to be born.

    Kenny Downing

    Rob Halford

    Ian Hill

    David Coverdale

    Pete Way

    Mick Mars

    Biff Byford

What a great birth year for metal heads.

  • This isnt live. This is the song from the album with clapping and static added over. Plus if you notice, at 1:39 when he starts singing "fire on your tongue" you notice hes singing in two octaves at the same time, meaning......ALBUM. You cant sing in two octives at the same time in reality. lol.

  • @Splinterz917 Do you not see Glenn singing at that part? Also, the album version doesn't have those drums at the beginning...

  • @KISS4evr u are an IDIOT Kiss4ever . The album DOES have the drums at the beginning and it IS THE ALBUM VERSION. Any dimwit with half a Judas Priest brain would know this. By the way...Kiss SUCKS!!!!

  • @Splinterz917 Thats because glenn does the lower octave...

  • @Splinterz917

If you see at that time, glenn (second vocals) is also singing.

Otherwise, it's very similar to the record version, if not the same.

  • stand fight the ShagLord!

  • This has got to be playback. I refuse to believe they could play it this well live, even though they are incredible. Hail the Priest!

  • this is playback, but check the video of them playing it in 78, its live and fuckin kicks ass, not to mention the unleashed in the east version

  • glenn with a les paul, EPIC!!!

  • @nucleardude11 that's what I thought when I saw this the first time!

  • Playback de aca a la china!!!! XP

  • Looks like playback, nice video anyway. JP forever!

  • WOW. WTF was up with cutting off the end of this song?!?!?! I was loving it, video quality and audio quality of the live performance was great. I'm happy to see it but also unusually pissed at it having been prematurely and forcibly ended.

  • Yeah, the ending is great when Rob hits 3 octaves!!

  • Metal gods pouring molten metal in our ears.

  • Totally RAD.

  • PRIEST ROCKS!!!!!!

  • FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is lip-synched

  • favsncrap have right , mostly for many guys metal means louder noyse or wore in black , judas when realesed stained class , alredy had masteryin the metal music , perhaps not yet sold millions like during the eightys, wore in leather ,but judas has done metal in seventys , the best era of judas doesnt matter bob wore hippe outfit they rock forever

  • Great!!!

    from japanease boy

  • playback?

  • Wow! Absolutely fucking CLASSIC!!!

  • it a crasy!!

  • fuck were is the solo!!!

  • Sorry...I meant these comments to jawbreaker666's video of Rob in the white gown. The band rocks harder in the jawbreaker666 version of exciter in the 5:51 length vid. This is great, too. Pre-Leather!!!!

  • Man...Rob Halfor looks especially gay back then. Especially the outfit and little hands up in the air. But God!! Do they fucking rock!! Les Binks (I think) fucking lays it down! Glenn and KK are light years ahead back then. It's still is way heavier than the bullshit garbage, screaming nonsense of todays metal.

  • def.... most metal noobs think that making the music more lower tuned (sounding more like todays crappy hiphop music beats / tones) and not singing properly is heavy.... for me og metal is heavy.. sabbath also \m/ hell even queen is more metal than todays crap

  • yup. I think metal isn't really metal anymore. Metal began with high vocals, standard tuned guitars for the most part. I think. The real metal bands are like priest, sabbath, wishbone ash, Megadeth, Overkill, Angel Witch, venom, Saxon, Death Angel, Exodus. Pretty much anything until Pantera. since the 90's there hasn't really been a new band I've liked. And another sucky thing is ozzy is endorsing that shit with his nu metal circus of ozzfest.

  • yeh i agree.. alota mid to late 60s stuff is awesom early metal...Uriah Heep etc. the underground still exists true metal is now back underground which is kinda good in some ways.. whats sad is i dont think the true underground will resurface again

  • Check out Portrait, seriously, proper old school metal. I do not say that lightly!

  • Interesting assessment.

What don't you like about contemporary metal?

For me, besides the plagiarism*, it's mostly the gratuitous use of cookie monster vocals (then there's pig squeals in regards to "deathcore" bands).

    * Not to be confused with inspiration.

  • Album, studio, outside bog, I'm cringing

  • Hmmm, Its the studio version coupled with a live video.

    Good song.

  • no its not

  • Yes It is.

  • we could go at this ALL DAY

    but its not

  • proabably. But listen, this is NOT the live version. This is the studio version on top of a live clip with a hand clapping in the back round. Heres a visual hint because you dont understand the acoustic difference. 1:35. Watch when glen goes for the mic.

  • vocals sound kinda different.

guitar tones are the same tho

  • No, the vocals are EXACTLY on cue with the album. This is the studio version.

  • ahh yeh, too true. with the mic. rob harmonies ;)

id say its just live vocals. maybe

  • It is the studio version

since when did Glen Tiptons backup vocals sound just like rob's? ;)

  • THE BEST BAND OF THE WORLD

  • @FeliNeira yes

  • His voice is utter perfection. There are no flaws ever.

  • i second thtat

  • The only thing my ex ever gave me was good taste in music..lol

  • Thats because it's not live you tell that a mile off.

  • Fucking sweet, this is my favorite album from them. STAINED CLASS!!

  • The gamma ray cover is so worse

  • WHAT?

    I love that cover.

Better then the original in a lot of ways, even though I still like the original a helluva lot more

  • i love priest version

but gamma rays is still pretty awesome

  • Gamma ray do a decent cover of this

  • The bassist has got it backwards.

He moves more now than back then.

  • que fino se ve haldofd con pelo...jeje

  • this isn't live

  • All the bands of this period dressed this way. Priest originated the leather and studs metal look in the early 80's. Ever see the hippie crap Zeppelin wore? Sabbath, too, though not quite as extreme.

  • What was wrong with what (that's 5 words in a row that start with W!) Led Zeppelin wore? That was Rock and Roll! So was the hair! Anything to say about that? What kind of "crap" did you wear?!

  • Black Sabbath is heavy but Judas is metal...

  • Ha ha, Tipton's shirt is straight off John Travolta's back in 'Saturday Night Fever'.

  • Wow, don't know where you got this footage, but thanks for posting. Love old Priest, espescially live.

  • It's hard to tell if it was from the album or really live. Rob can sing that way that he can stick with signature accents, but the album has 3 guitar overlays, but I only he the two in this where Glen plays it safe and doesn't try to play two overlays at the same time.

  • Definitely a "lipsync"! Too perfect and exactly like the record!

  • I would agree Rob's image doesnt fit metal in this . But Glenn and KK looked the part .

    Especially for the 70's

  • wow the clothes they used to wear do not match their sound at all. Its hysterical.

  • very nice!

  • Disco Priest!!! Nice shirt on Tipton. Still cool to see though

  • cool, never seen, thanks!

  • damnit they had to cut it off when the solo was coming

  • This is straight off the god damned album

  • dont see the clothes or the possible se xual orientation of HALFORD , IS A EXCELLENT SINGER ,AND EXCELENT BAND

  • halford's voice is also powerful in"exciter".powerhouse delivery by the band!

  • tipton's solo on the les paul custom is fucking sick!!!!!!!!!

  • im seeing the priest aug.1st FUCK YEAH

  • Excellent, never seen this.

  • No no no...this is before he starting wearing all the leather and dressing gay....this is his hetero outfit. hehe

Gay or not...Rob is the METAAAALLL GOD!! He pwns.

  • and you are a fucking idiot whom i nevr thought of.this is the best band ever and you?you are just an asshole who judges halford for being gay.i think that even more makes him more intersting .i mean why people have to talk about that.leave people be whatever they want to be

  • you didnt understand what I said. I said i never thouhgt about the sexual orientation of rob halford!I didnt said I never thought about him... and I said he is So gay, whats the problem... i didnt offend nobody

  • Priset before the leather and spikes...classic, but this video is overdubbed, its not a crystal clear recording but you can tell if you really listen to it.

  • fuckin'awesome

  • BRITISH METAL EARLY

  • The audio in this video is overdubbed with the studio recording.

  • sure is

  • I love this. I love this, I love this. Very cool, and KK is so hot!

  • Better than Spinal Tap?

  • where did you find this rare video?

  • And fuck you too

  • LOL! You can hear the audience clapping like a bunch of little children during the song breaks! Apparently, Japs can (almost) hold down a beat!

  • Japanese audiences love clapping along with the songs. I once downloaded a Queen live bootleg from 1975 and they clapped along even when there were no drums.

  • So you've seen two vids with a clapping Japanese audience and you jump to the conclusion that that's "just what they do"?

  • No, I've already read many interviews with artists such as Queen, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, saying that the Japanese love clapping along with the songs.

  • CHOLLING IN HILARIOUS

  • Great Track and Band !!! Thanx for upload!!!

  • That's for sure! I bought the CD, Stained Class, along w/ Sin After Sin cause I couldn't decide which classic '70s Priest CD to get. I also have live version from Unleashed in the East. BTW, I dig Robert's(as he is credited on SAS and SC) kimono! There is also some early Queen vids where Mercury is wearing same thing

  • yeah! cant wait to see them @ nova rock

  • this is pretty awesome... where'd you find it? could you send it to me perhaps? ;)

  • this vid is part of the Visual Metalogy DVD. it's not an official release so you just have to dig through the internet;]

  • ah... i see. thanks!

  • They look great in this vid!

(i have got nearly the same haircut like tipton...)

  • METAL!! \M/

  • Cool - great to see Les Binks pounding those drums - one of my favourite drumming pieces.

  • No question about the lip sync! But if you have any doubt about him hitting those notes "Unleashed in the East" should put that to rest! He'll never sing like this again but we'll always have You-Tube and what's left of our brains to fall back on! Rock Forever!

  • Definitely lip-sync'ed but still great to see. Wish Rob sang like this these days but I guess he can't do it that often. Still The Metal Gods!

    --

    Splat

  • Hell, Rob can still wail like a banshee!! Can't wait til Nostradamus comes out this summer. The classic art of the concept album Priest-ified

  • After seeing his outfits pre-leather daddy I could see how the leather would make him seem like he wasn't gay.

  • My uncle has a very old tape of mostly everything Judas Priest has ever done and it has the whole song on it.

  • Sounds like the audience is clapping along, and I do see a few people doing so in time, like it's a country show. They either stop or are drowned out by first guitar solo, then it picks up again...weird.

  • LOL! Clapping! It's fun time with Rob and Friends! A gay hoedown or blowdown or go-down! Repent, one your knees, if you please, motherfuckers, and lick the dirt from my shoes while you're at it!!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

fun time w/ halford .. totally its like when stupid tittie dancers try to dance to this kind o f shit in a bar HI LAR I OUS

  • just epic.. I wanna see more

  • Great rare footage. Too bad it's only half of the song.

  • JUDAS FUCKIN RULES!!!

  • wow!never seen this before!

  • ROB IS BIG IN JAPAN

  • OVERA AND OVER AGAIN, I love this video!

    FUCKING COOL!

  • Lol. Gotta love those goofy komonos of Rob's.

  • THIS IS FUCKING GREAT!\\\\\

  • GREAT!

  • i see.... the japanese love priest. and that's not a live song, the music is EXACTLY the same as in the cd or lp. so it's kinda playback... BUT STILL, PRIEST ROCKS!

  • yes, it's obviously lip-synced but who cares. It's just fun to see JP from that era.

  • Yeah. All the cool vids, like Bo Rap, are lip-synced. Vids are just a cheaper way to see your fav band in action. Also love the '70s Genesis vids

  • I don't think KK's left hand moves during the second half of the clip
