SAME! i doing my aircrew aptitude test in 2 months, then hoping to go to sandhurst next year, i honestly cant wait to start flying again. tutors get very boreing after 7 years. i think a helecopter will make a nice change, not forgetting the experiance you will have.
to join the air corp's, you have to serve about 5 year's, then apply, yeah this may sound stupid, you need to know what ground unit's are doing.:) good luck.
are you sure? it says on the web page for enrolling that an officer "may" be asked to complete an attachment with the royal armoured corps or infantry unit. Personally it seems a bit unfair, if you need 3 A levels to be an officer pilot and have A level maths and a science to be told you will join the cannon fodder (that what an ex soldier in the infantry unit told me) seems really unfair and for 5 years.
@tobyaddams No it's true, math & physics a- levels are good, any previous flying exsperiance or served time in the forces, will do you the world of good.
Like i said before you need to know what the ground units are doing, my information is from family, ie military personal, or from the commercial aviation background. Have fun :)
@oiamryaan you dont need to serve 5 years. i had my interview today, i doing aircrew aptitude test then a 48 week officer training course at sandhurst then i apply to the AAC but because i will have doen my test already im pretty much garunteed a place, but of course defence cuts and that. but basically, talk to your nearest carreers officer,
@oiamryaan like 123456789r2 said u dnt need to serve 5 years b4 u can apply. ive got through to my selection in a couple of weeks, and if i get through tht ill go straight in, obviously after basic training. and like im doing, goin in at groundcrew level its 4 years till u can apply for aircrew after a promotion
You need to join the air corps as ground crew first, but when you reach the rank of corpral you can apply for air crew (Pilot, gunner etc.) The good thing about the army compared to the RN or RAF is that you don't need any qualifications to apply for pilot training.
Are you sure? The only pilot job I saw available on their website was "Army Air Corps Pilot (Officer)". I also saw on the DVD that the army is the only armed forces where you don't have to be an officer to pilot, but I've heard from other places this isn't true.
@TheDrOctopus Yeah I'm fit and healthy but that doesn't take into account sight :/. I'm short-sighted in my right eye unfortunately... Still not sure of the exact figures i.e. lense accuity etc... Gratz for passing it though lol, sounds hard for a lot of people!
BTW once you're in, how do you get allocated to your aircraft? I hear that you get to choose? Or do they offer a place? Or do they just shove you into an aircraft of their choosing?
@tarkinfish If you pass all the tests for pilot, i'm not actually sure what aircraft they're likely to put ya on, i'd imagine it would take the best pilots to fly aircraft like the Apache, but i expect other pilots get a choice of what aircraft they can fly... But that's only a guess, i need to look that up myself lol
@TheDrOctopus wouldnt they rank you up as a pilot though? like witihn your first few years fly a lynx or something then after a couple years of experiance and stuff, move you up to an apache
@TheCaeronRoberts I'm not sure, i'd imagine that if you was flying Lynx's for a few years and you wanted to fly Apache's instead, that you would be able to do that instead, but i'm not sure..
@TheCaeronRoberts wether you fly the apache or the lynx depends on your test results, if you capeable of flying one or the other well there you go, but its also slightly supply and demand.
Army is the only part of the armed forces where ya don't need to be an officer to apply for pilot training, most people don't believe it because the RAF and RN require officers only. But yea, in the army about 2/3 of pilots are NCO's :)
Imalready in an Aplication for the Royal Marines, which is my number one goal...but i woudl also like to be a Pilot but so i went into army careers and i asked because i seen on a vid that the army is the onyl one out of the 3 that youdotn need to eb a commisioned officerto fly one but he said thsi aitn true...and said i coudl eb a avionics technician with ym grade...is this true?
i'm really interested in becoming a pilot for the army air corps, if i go through sandhurst after uni, how much training would there be to fly a gazelle or a lynx?? and, what's life really like in the corps?? thanks, and brilliant vid
i am 21 also and i want to join for minimum of 4years. Yes you can train as a piolet if you have so many years experience and have the skills that are looking for. i dont know hoew long it takes though
Ive Applied for the Royal Marine Commando's got medically withdrawn from my first prmc now i got 3 months to retake it...after watching this vid i would consider being a aircrewman i love helicopters
LOL everyones joining as bloody groundcrew. I tried for Air tech as REME is really what I wanna do. But BARB on monday 12th pissed on that one as the armys "full" lol. So im posting med forms off for groundcrew lol I fancy sitting in a chopper waking the locals up (H) lol
But i done my b.a.r.b test for the army and i was thinking about doing AAC (starting off as groundcrew). Royal Marines is my first choice though. ( i know theyre the best and hardest force to get into (fitness, state of mind) but im not gonna give up.)
you have to join as ground crew, it'll take 18months - 4yrs to become a lance corporal at which point you can become airecrew (doorgunner), if you want to fly its better to become a technician in REME and then apply for pilots training

i'm in the process of applying now, if you want to fly a heli then join REME as a technician then once your a corporal you can apply to be a pilot straight from there skipping the doorgunner bit, if your keen on "front line" stuff remember even as a technician the army will see you as a soldier before anything else
please tell me why you guys decide to flip the bird sideways when you come to power lines? it makes me so sick. especally going fram basarah to umm qasr lots of power lines.
how is it u become a non-comissioned pilot in air corps, is it just after u get promoted to Lcpl or is it more time and expeience first? and do u have to join AAC to be abble to apply for pilot training?
and is it true u cant fly the apache if ur a soldier?
Think at the moment you need to have served at least two years in the Army before youre illegible for AAC aircrew, as far as I know everyone who is in the AAC as pilots are illegible to test-outs on the WAH-64s but only 1% will succeed in the course. The British Apache course is the toughest helicopter course on the planet.
dont worry about being the bearer of bad news. i always knew i may not make it after thr RAF told me at the last minute. the AAC keep telling me that i can join as a pilot if im 4 years clear??? FAA have same approach as RAF.
Yes they told me the same, No one has ever made pilot in 4 years. I had severe hayfever which on occasion set off asthma. I was 4 years clear and they still refused.
I want to join the Army then the AAC, the army website says you have to be an officer. Is it helpful to have gone to Uni, i'm only 15, and want to know whether I should go to Uni or not and my parents want me to so can anyone join to train as an officer from any age?
Hey mate, you have got to go to sandhurst to do officer training to become a pilot, or you can join the army in another job, and if you reach a high enough rank, then you can train to be a pilot, but the quickest way is through sandhurst! I'm in the same position as ou with my mum and dad, but i'm leaving after sixth form. Have you got facebook, would be good to chat bout it! Me name is Alex Archey Henry if you wana talk wud be gr8 2
you have to be 18 and have good A levels to enter as an officer, you then attend sandhurst then you go on a 44 week course with the AAC. you can join the AAC as any rank but i think you can only fly helicopters as an officer but dont hold me to that.
How good because,i'm not being disrespectful in any way but, people in the army are never really seen as that intelligent, maybe it's different for officers.
I should be getting at least 3 Bs at A-level and i'm set for pretty much straight As at GCSE which is obviously good but A-levels are different.
i think A levels are abit like GCSEs i wouldnt know though as im doing mine at the moment, But i think C or above is good enough, good luck with your A levels ill need it with mine :P
I plan on joining the RAF after i have gone to uni i am currently doing my a levels and i have been in contact with the RAF.
Right what i wanted to say is that (subject dependant) A levels are generally much much harder than GCSE, i don't mean to put you off. I do the three sciences and the work load is substantially more, its also much more challanging. A C at A level is very good.
im not sure if your too old, and don't take that to offence lol i think you have to fit the Army's general max age and i think that's 29! if your really interested, write the AAC a letter or contact Middle Wallop. Any help?
Just out of interest, would a lapsed private helicopter licence be an advantage towards a job as a pilot in the AAC? My instructor was ex-AAC, but I'm pushing 40 now!
I'm not totaly sure but as the website says you have to have done officer training and be under 27, it doesn't say if things are different for people already with licences
Im in the AAC...Just to let everyone know that you cant just join as a door gunner ...it takes time , you need at least a class 1... as you get to your reg you will start as a class 3...and depending on you !! how well you wpsk and much you want it then its anything is possible ...The future is the Apache...so got hands on with tha Apachie first...get your class 1..then try for it .... Good luck....to us all !!
FUCK YES i fucking love AAC joining as soon as i get the chance, anyone whos been in the AAC could you tell me how it was and how long you served for?
all very positive comments, nice to see you young people are inspired, however a good command of the engilsh language is needed to jion any arm of h.m. forces,
army air corps (door gunner) if you want some fun. but, royal engineers if you want to get a half good civvy job afterwards... then again, in the aac you could be a driver, signaller, or pilot... possibly, but yeah zzz!
now the times r 9:18 to 14 mins my best so far is like 10:50 but ive got along time to wait i can tell, so i shud eventually get between 9 and 10 mins at the ADSC.
At wallop there streaming now i think, so just hope you do better in sigs than any other. If you pass the first 2 weeks i think they give you an option to carry on for another 3 weeks. I left there a while ago but as i was leaving there was talk about this.
Is the AAC worth joining? Hell yeah! There are crap times but you'll face those in any walk of life, I have a chip or two on my shoulder but the good times far outweigh the bad times. Are you looking to be a pilot? f so, the quickest route could be to join another corps with a faster promotion route and then apply, the APC is an all arms course.
I've no regrets at all about becoming a blue tac head! :o)
i'm currently at rma sandhurst hopefully will get my commitioning soon then off to do training with infantry then my 14 month flying, its gonna take more than waiting

Yes they told me the same, No one has ever made pilot in 4 years. I had severe hayfever which on occasion set off asthma. I was 4 years clear and they still refused.
fiddsey 2 years ago
so why do they bother saying that u can be pilot 4 years clear of asthma when realisticaly you wont make it? they give people false hope.
Shyamp92 2 years ago 2
Does the army air corps involve parachuting out of aircraft?
tomtaj7 2 years ago
The american one does.
fiddsey 2 years ago
Can you be in air corps with a nut allergy, you cant get in infantry with it :(

can you be in the british army air corps as a pilot if you're colour blind? thanks
living268 2 years ago
No, i'm afraid not.
p3ngaC 2 years ago
To be a pilot your health and fitness levels have to be top notch.
Your breathing, heart, muscles, eyesight and hearing have to be near perfect, if not absolutely perfect.
felthrian 2 years ago
in canada they hire 2 pilots per year...
in conclusion becoming a army pilot is almost impossible ( in canada.......maybe same for elsewhere)

I want to join the Army then the AAC, the army website says you have to be an officer. Is it helpful to have gone to Uni, i'm only 15, and want to know whether I should go to Uni or not and my parents want me to so can anyone join to train as an officer from any age?
SheepJumpFish 3 years ago
Hey mate, you have got to go to sandhurst to do officer training to become a pilot, or you can join the army in another job, and if you reach a high enough rank, then you can train to be a pilot, but the quickest way is through sandhurst! I'm in the same position as ou with my mum and dad, but i'm leaving after sixth form. Have you got facebook, would be good to chat bout it! Me name is Alex Archey Henry if you wana talk wud be gr8 2

YOU CAN BECOME AIRCREW VIA GROUNDCREW
RAAABridgnell 2 years ago
you have to be 18 and have good A levels to enter as an officer, you then attend sandhurst then you go on a 44 week course with the AAC. you can join the AAC as any rank but i think you can only fly helicopters as an officer but dont hold me to that.
thejollyro 3 years ago
How good because,i'm not being disrespectful in any way but, people in the army are never really seen as that intelligent, maybe it's different for officers.
I should be getting at least 3 Bs at A-level and i'm set for pretty much straight As at GCSE which is obviously good but A-levels are different.
SheepJumpFish 3 years ago
this is to 'thejollyro' bloody youtube puts in wrong place
SheepJumpFish 3 years ago
Are you from America? The British army is full of intelligent young guys. That is why they joined.

i think A levels are abit like GCSEs i wouldnt know though as im doing mine at the moment, But i think C or above is good enough, good luck with your A levels ill need it with mine :P
thejollyro 3 years ago
I plan on joining the RAF after i have gone to uni i am currently doing my a levels and i have been in contact with the RAF.
Right what i wanted to say is that (subject dependant) A levels are generally much much harder than GCSE, i don't mean to put you off. I do the three sciences and the work load is substantially more, its also much more challanging. A C at A level is very good.
Appclypse 3 years ago
you only have to be an officer if you want to be a pilot straight away. you can go in as a normal air trooper

im not sure if your too old, and don't take that to offence lol i think you have to fit the Army's general max age and i think that's 29! if your really interested, write the AAC a letter or contact Middle Wallop. Any help?
kelleher9 3 years ago
Just out of interest, would a lapsed private helicopter licence be an advantage towards a job as a pilot in the AAC? My instructor was ex-AAC, but I'm pushing 40 now!
Still fit though!
SkipSidekick 3 years ago
I'm not totaly sure but as the website says you have to have done officer training and be under 27, it doesn't say if things are different for people already with licences
SheepJumpFish 3 years ago
the army like to have commisioned their pilots at age 27, age 29 is pushing it let alone 40.

At wallop there streaming now i think, so just hope you do better in sigs than any other. If you pass the first 2 weeks i think they give you an option to carry on for another 3 weeks. I left there a while ago but as i was leaving there was talk about this.

IS THE army air corps worth joining anyone?? and whats it like on tour? as ground crew
lHoodlum 3 years ago
Is the AAC worth joining? Hell yeah! There are crap times but you'll face those in any walk of life, I have a chip or two on my shoulder but the good times far outweigh the bad times. Are you looking to be a pilot? f so, the quickest route could be to join another corps with a faster promotion route and then apply, the APC is an all arms course.
I've no regrets at all about becoming a blue tac head! :o)
