  • @ColeBeasley... My comment was one of the best of the time. obviously there were many, but he was exceptional in my opinion. He was using finger board hammer on techniques (ala Eddie Van Halen) way before Eddie hit the scene... Collins was excellent also, but had a differing style all his own...

  • Ace Frehley"s solos here melt with the kind of feeling and power of this fantastic era in rock music..........Superp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1970's rock n roll kicked major ass. Ace Freely was unreal. He was pulled over where I grew up doing well over 100 mph in his Ferrari....rock star cliche moment for sure, but man he could play.

  • This is Kiss!!!!!

  • ohhhhhh yaaaaaaa, COOL !!!

  • Such raw energy!

  • HE'S WORTH A DEUCE!!

  • A WONDERFUL BAND.. WE SMOKED DOOGIES AND DRANK PISS CHEAP

WINE AND LISTENED TO KISS ON THE WEEKENDS.

  • 0:14

  • they may not have been the most talented band back in the 70's but they put all their might and soul in to every performance they did.

  • In one single word.FANTASTIC music video!

  • This is great, so raw. KISS at their peak.

  • 1973 to 1975 was the real KISS before they turned plastic. This is a time when Kiss still wrote songs that were over 4 minutes long! Later on the stage show got bigger and the music got smaller. Hardly any 12 year and under fans 73 to 75. Late 70's half their fans were 12 years old, there is a reason for that, their music turned lame!

  • @METALIZE1 INfuckingDeed...their first two albums were the only acceptable things they did. Then these nice 'n safe jewish New York buisinessmen came to the conclusion they could milk these comic book caracters to the hilt.

And were indeed taken seriously only by 12 year olds.

  • @PAULLONDEN Have to disagree. Kiss peaked with 'Destroyer' and after that....couldn't agree with you more!

  • Fuckin best from Sweden. Kiss is Kings, Ace is Ace!

  • GENE CAN SMILE!!!!!!! THIS IS WHAT KISS IS ABOUT 4 GUYS ROCKING AND HAVING FUN....THIS IS KISS

  • Bon Jovi was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and KISS has never been? Something wrong there!

  • @hatmap Jann Wenner has a grudge against them. My hope is that when they are nominated/inducted that they turn it the fuck down.

KISS is big enough to have their own museum.

  • @maryquant1967 He's the same prick that hasn't inducted Rush either. Great bands create their own legacy and don't need some corporate assholes to decide whether they belong in some lame HOF museum. I went there and didn't see a lot of my heroes....Judas Priest, Iron Maiden....etc.

  • The day after this first aired I told my dumb older sister that "Ace Frehley's WAAAY better than Jimi Hendrix" love the pure joy on Gene's face at 3:13 mark

  • Any one that does not think Kiss has musical tallent just cant see past the makeup. LISTEN....The music is amazing!! Peter as a drummer is VERY under rated and ACE is deffiniaty got a unique sound and was doing things in 74 that eddie van halen made famous (invented some think) in 78. Kiss were pioneeres and "gene"-yeses ahead of thier time!

  • ACE!!!!!!! i was born on the same day as him

  • hell yeah,I watched this with my bro and sis,and we were young kids,it was cool

  • DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • @justaman6972 Seek help regarding how to party

  • @vockins I knew I could bait atleast one of you, mission accomplished. I'm sorry man, they just aren't talented musically, now marketing is another matter.

  • @justaman6972 go away.

  • @justaman6972 agree, but this tune rocks a bit.

  • @thefoppa1000 oh I agree and I love music! I just prefer musicianship ,which they lack ,but that;s not what it was about for this band anyway. Sort of a personality cult, but I suppose rock back then was sufferring a bit so for those looking for something different ,they found it. peace

  • Gene's yell is just intense!

I love the way they synchronize dance towards the end, Gene and Paul then they face Ace while he's finishing up the solo and Ace joins them and they do that freaky cool KISS Deuce Dance! Just fucking love that.

  • THIS IS WHEN BANDS KICKED ASS

  • Raw, Powerful ,and In Your Fucking Face !!

  • The REAL Kiss!

  • Nine 'dislikes' have no idea what rock and roll is.

  • They were friggin awesome in their early pre Dynasty album days.

  • love the jimmy page lick at 2:40

  • People nowadays wanna only hear that safe teenage crap...............

  • now thats what ROCK N ROLL is all about

  • this is what they call a led guitar player kiddies

  • @10mannyman Amen! Fucking Ace knew how to rock the house. Still does!

  • Back when the boys were hungry,I love the fact that all the non believers from back then have been proven wrong! How can anyone watch this and say Kiss does'nt kick ass

  • Thanks for posting this. Very cool...

  • this shit rips and kicks ass....no denying that....raw, loud and in your face

  • im 17 and i was brought into rock by listining to Black Diamond live on the midnight special. i'm probably one of the only Black Kiss fans but i don't care they are the greatest

  • @lildsmoke12 Nope you are not the "only" black kiss son brother.

I been listening to them since 1976 and had all the posters, t shirts and records on vinyl. Saw the orginal line up too.

Also last year I met Ace Frehley in NYC and got to do a quick interview and he signed my guitar. I met a lot of famous people before, but this was the only time I was start struck.

  • @lildsmoke12 the kiss army know,s no color my brother. keep rocking , your fellow solider, michael spurlock

  • very good performance for 1975...Elton John said these guys would be great! !!when he first saw them,,,,lots of energy!

  • gah the applause at the beginning hurt my ears... anywho... FUCKING LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE

  • You know your man is working hard....he's worth a deuce...classic verse...first concert ever Kiss Alive Tour April 1975 Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Canada...kick ass rockin' roll...especially when you knew every word in every song!

  • Ace Frehley was one of the best guitarists of the day. His solo's are incredible. I remember watching this performance on TV back then. couldnt get enough Kiss...

  • @Aeroben19

He was. & Became. Then he end it. All by him self..

  • @Aeroben19 you're CRAZY if you think he was the best.. lmao.. how bout allen collins? lol

  • @ColeBeasley Allen Collins was my favorite Skynyrd guitar dude, but Ace taught me how to play..... and did it wearing stack shoes, pounds of costume and greaspaint..... NOBODY in Skynyrd did THAT!!! This was great, kick ass playing while giving fans more bang for their buck......

  • The truth is "rock n roll" is old peoples music now.

  • Ace Frehley was the sound of KISS!

  • I watch this video every day.

  • I Love ACE at 2:08....

  • This stuff looked so much cooler thirty years ago

  • good stuff for the classic scene, but their live show doesn't cut it for the new crowd today, but i love seeing the roots of metal.

    GETCHAPULL!

  • EXCELLLLENT

  • Good times! When KISS was just about the music!

  • Ace sounds great even in Low Definition/Low Fidelity! His tone is cutting. His bends are precise. It sounds like he's a lead guitar player in a rhythm guitar player's body. Precision. I can't help but wonder if he was drunk/stoned/etc at the time. Peter sounds sloppy, probably coked up. If Aerosmith comments about you "loving coke" then you do.

  • SO many people say Black Sabbath was the first heavy metal band. But in my opinion....No other band pushed the envelope & polayed LOUDER and Harder than these guys.AND put on a hell of an awesome show on top of that. a Balck Sabbath show compared toa Kiss show was like night and day.I like Sabbath & feel they made their mark on Hard rock, But KISS had all bases covered & then some.

  • NOTHING beats this shit.

    The real KISS....greatest rock band....EVER.

  • So, how ridiculous is it that these guys aren't in the Rock n Roll HOF?

  • Look at the 13 second mark when Simmon's foot buckles under him and he almost goes down.....man that would have been awful! Nice recovery Gene...

  • @stingray1964 Yes that happened alot in the early years until they got used to those heels. You have to give alot of credit for being very original. I remeber seeing them in 74 or 75 in So. California and being so close to the stage that i felt the heat from the fires! It is a shame what gene did to this band, not allowing ace and peter for freedoms. Sure ace and peter smoked magic mary and drank, but they would have controlled it more if gene let them put more songs on the albums. Jew yorker!!

  • @barmtrail Totally original!! And these early clips remind me of why I got into them in the first place, SO MUCH ENERGY and STAGE presence!! I'm a few years behind you, I never saw them until 82 unfortunately, but they were still pretty good. I'd give my left arm to see them back in 74-75. Over the years they toured with UFO, Sabbath, Rush, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith you name it. Who opened up for them in 74?

I also agree, Simmons has turned KISS into TOO much of a business!

    Rock on bro..thx!

  • @stingray1964 I dont believe anybody really opened for then in 74. In those days they would just be on the ticket themselves or with other local bands in the New York area. Bill aucoin payed their way out west to promote their first 3 albums. Their music was not as good as ted nugent or aerosmith or even ufo, but their stage show and presence could not be ignored. Ace really made people take notice as well. Gene i believe was always jealous of Ace and knew he was a better axer. Gene was no good.

  • @barmtrail Oh okay....yeah Bil Aucoin maxed out every credit card he had on Kiss from what I've heard in the early days. I also heard those are his suits they are wearing on the cover of dressed to Kill...great stuff man thx!

  • @barmtrail Odd because at KISS concerts Gene gets the biggest applause when they show them on screen backstage.

  • @stingray1964 KISS was really a good band except for the politics which were mostly caused by gene. Paul was and still is cool. Buy today they are just KI...because there is no ace and peter. When i was a kid it was kill or be killed if you liked KISS, because you were considered gay if you like them because of the make-up. But me and my friends carried on and now we find out we fought for a money hungry asshole who only claims to stand by his KISS army. He is a fraud and he knows it!!

  • @stingray1964 MY friend and i went and watched peter in his band, "great balls of fire" in glendora Ca. That was a real trip because here is peter just sitting in a booth with his bandmates just drinking. lol So weird because here was peter criss!! and he is 10 feet from me and he is plastered. Then they played and they were good. Peter was just looking for his youth and fun of the old club days, but it was sad, but drinking heavy will lead you to this demise. What a world.

  • @stingray1964 It IS a business!!

they employ hundreds of people who are counting on a paycheck.

this is a product just like any other product. but also the better your product the more customers you will have. Art is a product.

  • Ace Frehley is not of this Earth!! He's beyond amazing.

  • In KISS BEHIND THE MASK, Paul Stanley says "Sean Delaney was a creative dynamo who was an important part of the early team. he was responsible single handedly for taking a move that we did and by repeating it in the show, it became the signature classic KISS side to side movement".

    See that move at 2:46!!

  • Along with strutter & black diamond ,deuce is an all time classic...raw heavy rock, fantastic live performance from the masters...forget your zeppelin, purple, stones Early KISS made them look like pussy!!! Even AC-DC at their best (with Bon in my opinion) were still behind Kiss for that elusive live 5 star charisma!!!!

  • Now THIS(!) is KISS! Oh yeah. About as far away from Corporate America as any rock band could have been in 1975 and where no rock band belongs anyway.

    These were the days...

  • These guys were just so much fun to watch when they were younger. They moved like maniacs! What a great show!

  • kiss had a better midnight special performance than aerosmith did

  • In what kind of music can you get to hear real screaming ?? Not in derpessing rebetika, not in boring classical, not in cool jazz, not even on the dance floor... You can only hear it in rock n roll !!! Check out the scream at 2:34 !!! Rock n roll is best, fuck the rest !!!!!!!!!!!

  • She is some good dancer on those high heels.

  • black-i totally agree!!!

  • rock n roll isnt tough, rough, or even glam nowadays. rock isnt like this anymore

  • @TonyBriggs the latter doesnt bother me so much, Kiss were the only band with a glamish look i really ever liked. but i definitely am dissapointed in the rest. rock isn't tough or rough anymore and its sad.

  • It's amazing thay didn't break their ankles every few months or so.

  • good stuff, but not better than aerosmith

  • a tight performance - no doubt! The energy of their youth comes thru as well.

  • I remember watching the original telecast of this....a proud 9-yr old member of the Kiss Army (yeah, my older brothers started me early). Saw the original lineup on the 2000 reunion tour and it kicked my ass as much as the very first time I ever heard them.

  • Paul is the only one who seemed to have prepared a body movement for every part of the song..

  • @cliiff2 Now that's funny!

  • It's illegal to play this loud today...that's why concerts were better in the 70's.

  • nothing beats the original members of KISS. instant magic!!!!!!!!!! enough said!

  • KISS #1. Deuce #1. Now on with the blood, guitar on fire, flames, and fireworks...oh hell yeah!!!

  • I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the original band members for not appreciating their music before now. I realize now that I should have been a true fan 35 years ago when everyone else was, and for that I'm regretful. Although I still don't care for most of the stuff from 1985 onward, it must be reitterated that in the seventies, KISS was the greatest rock and roll band on Earth.

  • One word- amazing.

  • PERFECT!!! This was KISS at their Best! They were a great and very original band and sound. I saw them in 1977 and they put on the BEST SHOW ever! I think even Micheal Jackson learned a few steps from Paul.

  • they were so on there game at this point! listen to ace and peter in the second verse!

    THIS IS KISS!!!!!!!

  • @gwamba These guys are smart and knew that this 1975 Midnight Special taping was going to be around for a long time and seen by a LOT of people... they were very well-rehearsed and serious here... and its awesome.

  • @abumpinthenight2 agreed!~

  • You know there nuts and good oh so good at the same time.

  • I remember seeing this in 1975 and saying WTF?

  • INCREDIBLE> GREAT MOVES !!!! SIMPLY BADASS

  • This balls out KISS. Best.

  • 3:18 is just unreal. the moves should be trademarked.

  • I love Kiss

  • Damn did you see Gene jump at the beginning? he'd break a hip now

this is why i wanted to play guitar

    this KISS ROCKED!

  • sssssweeeettttt!!! before Ace Frehley lost his edge. and, it's Gene not in the Alive suit.

  • super

  • tight.

  • So much energy...it's like punk but before punk...

  • In 70's and 80's,bands like KISS, Aerosmith, Poison etc. have so much energy and passion in the music. They are real bands and their music is REAL music !!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrGuitar35 Dude, Poison is gay...

  • wow!!! the days when musicians actually gave a shit!! Imagine that!!!

  • KISS is so original, so tight and hungry. They make many contemporary bands seem tame.

  • Playing like they mean it !

Nice to see this again ,

  • Those were the days...raw in your face Rock n Roll of the 70's and because of that song in particular, picked up guitar, wanted to be the next “Ace”, but sadly after years of lessons and countless hours in garage it left me relegated to being one of the best “air” guitarist, ever…Thanks KISS

  • deuce in what?

    man-famale?

  • Ahhhhhhh,Memories.:-)

  • This s fucking incredible. I hope, somday, this is what Kiss will be remembered for... Raw, rough, powerful, juvenile energy!

  • Rock contest: Kiss vs. Iron Maiden ... Reply with your vote. Thank you for your participation in the rock poll.

  • @mdonnelly1971- I respect both bands. Kiss and Iron Maiden are both pioneers of hard rock/heavy metal. No disrespect to Maiden, but KISS kicks their ASS.

When you have a great metal band- Metallica- closing Cobalt Hall with Detroit Rock

City. When Garth Brooks performs Hard Luck Woman. When Lenny Kravitz performs his version of Deuce, etc., it all shows you that KISS has influenced many bands outside the genre of Hard Rock/Metal. Without a doubt, KISS defeats Iron Maiden!

  • 0:15 LMAO. Simmons almost ate it.

  • best performance energy wise

  • OH MY GOD!! This is great show !! Gene and Paul is crazy :D Look in my channel I have some KISS videos from 23.5.2010. KISS LIVE IN PRAGUE!

And sorry for my bad english, Im from Czech Republic, Im 13yo, our teachers sucks and Google translate is bad too :)

  • is that a Menorah up on stage?

  • Too much theatrics

  • This was aired in late spring of 1975. I was watching that night on NBC. The next day I walked to the record store and bought my first KISS album.

  • And now we know where choreographed, synchronized boy band dancing got it's start.

  • I saw Kiss in 1974 with Rush opening

    One lid of weed--$ 10

    Concert ticket -- $ 3.50 (yes 3 fifty)

    A night at the opera--PRICELESS

My ears use to bleed from listening to Kiss, Alice Cooper, Rush and Sabbath. At 50 it's a wonder I can still hear.

  • This is the moment that changed my life, when I saw this as a little kid on Midnight Special. Blew me away. Took up guitar, jammed in bands ever since.

  • my uncle roboert went to this concert in 1975 he was 18

  • Comment removed

  • @geetaryounggun the Gibson Grabber

  • Early Kiss like this is perhaps the greatest rock music ever made. They had it all back then, concise powerful songs, great showmanship and that raw, no bullshit essence that is what rock and roll is all about. They absolutely crushed in this performance, heavy as fuck, super tight, raw and polished at the same time. I actually can't think of a greater live performance than this. What a statement.

  • @blacksabbathish You said it, dude!! you said it perfectly.

  • @blacksabbathish Huh? "No bullshit essence"????? The make-up, outrageous costumes, fire-breathing, blood-spitting, pyrotechnics... KISS was ALL ABOUT "bullshit" - no other band in history has been more characterized by their egregious incorporation of "bullshit." "Bullshit" is exactly what made them famous and what they are most well known for.

  • @blacksabbathish Even though its not the same....They're still pretty tight today.

  • @blacksabbathish Can't agree more,watching this you can't stand still

  • @blacksabbathish Gee whiz, blacksabbathish. You hit the nail on the head. Well written. And the best part for me is at about 3 minutes when all 3 are doing the undoubtedly trademarked KISS moves. It was Midnight alright and even more special than we knew then.

  • @blacksabbathish KISS in this era kicked every rock band in the ass on live performance. You can find AC/DC's late great Bon Scott who opened for KISS say as much.

  • @blacksabbathish If you listen and watch closely, you'll see and hear that the audio from this video is actually the studio recording. So of course it's super tight...there faking it! As is most music videos.

  • @pberger310

Yeah right???!!!!....either you're joking or you're completely tone deaf, this is as live and off the cuff as you could possibly get. You're not serious are you?

  • @pberger310 watch Black Diamond which was the last song they performed on midnight special. You can hear Paul mess up the starting riff really bad and Criss destroyed his drum set at the end....no faking this was totally live.

  • I use to be in a band that did this song. If you want a reaction out of the crowd, just play this number

  • It was performances and shows like this that made KISS so famous and inspirational to so many others.

  • Hey Gene! If you're reading this, you're a dink! You blew it by kicking Ace out of the band. He's one of the best R&R guitarists of all time!

    The current Kiss sucks balls!

  • @detoth67 Too bad Ace can barely play anymore, at least not until very recently...

  • @GP1138 Don't worry, Ace can still play

  • @detoth67

Ace left the band my man he wasn't kicked out.

  • Everything! Sex, violence, danger, menace, evil, raw energy, theatrics!!!!

I mean, I know we've got the Jonas Bros. and Miley Cyrus, but come on!!!

  • awesome opening line...'get up & get your grandmom outta here'. if gene showed up at my pad with that get up on my grandmom would smack him with some ground beef & call the cops

  • guys's gene's said it himself....he has no clue what the song means....he just started writing it and it has no point and no meaning....

  • that swing move at 02:58 so classic. kiss rocks.

  • нихера себе Кисы заправляют Рок энд Ролл жив!!!!!!!.

  • Holy Sh#t! 1975? I would have lost my mind seeing that live. Once Ace left it was over and Peter was ahead of his time.

  • Got to see KISS live in 1975. Straight up '70s rock and roll.

  • lolwat

  • For Gods Sakes......for all u virgins.....

A "Deuce" is reference to getting your girl to give you some pussy 2 times in a row....

...but only if your workin hard!

  • deuce doesn't actually mean anything. gene has said so himself.

  • @patriot37 I thought they said it was a slang for getting blown?

  • @patriot37 Define "in a row"

  • One of the strangest things I saw on TV in 1975...I immediately went out and bought their album.

  • Ace was my HERO is 75 !l

  • No one knows what this is about...! good song though..

  • I have no idea what the hell they are talking about in this song, but they are rocking hard. When the lights catch a flash on Paul's guitar, you kind of remember what the mystique of KISS was all about.

  • when a man can "do it" back to back without stopping "he's worth a duece"

  • Oh I think I get it now. Going non-stop for the double shot. Thanks for the education.

  • so if you can bang 10 bitches in a row with out stopping than you're worth a shit?

  • mystique? wasn't it & isn't it all about money? that's what gene simmons constantly preaches, isn't it? usually, musicians say, "it's all about the music"...but even he says their music is often below average.

  • paul is not God but he sure do got him a hairy chest

  • Paul is a god!
