Jason brought so much more than bass to the band! He had the passion, the backing vocals, the zest for the music and the love of the fans. He was never a replacement for Cliff Burton but he was a unique accompanyment to the band in his own right. I like all of Metallica's music, Cliff/Jason/Rob if I could watch you all in the same night do your stuff, I would be in heaven. Until then Youtube will do!
Enter Rob and they found their sanity once again (of course after the rehab and therapy sessions during St. Anger) and they once again set on their course for world domination and achieved it truly coming back after almost two decades to their Thrash sound of Master Of Puppets with Death Magnetic.. having found the perfect substitute for Cliff Burton who was in himself a leader onstage with Rob's aggressive fingerpicking. Jason as James said was a necessary sacrifice. he came n went for a reason
it almost feels like the metallica with cliff was enroute to "world domination" as they said.. all was good until that unfortunate day.. in the grief they tried to get themselves back on road.. and needed someone like Jason to sustain them through the madness.. to fill in.. but would never let anyone take the place of Cliff.. By the late 90's they seemed on a frenzy to just get records out.. leading to Jason's departure.. when they got back down to earth
when jason starts to play "..And Justice for All" he's playing some power chords (that's what it looks to me). i checked out the tabs for this song, but can't find this part o.o
@xDoppler44x during the "justice" sessions, I think james & lars didnt want people to think jason was trying to pick up where cliff left off, so the actual recordings were just strumming the root notes without deviating or "showing off", they would just let him do it live...thats just a theory, I could very well be wrong.
@2scrimble9 No one care? Actually a lot of people care. For every person who moans about Rob I can find you another 10 who love him. @pankakeman800 it's an Alembic Elan with 2 jazz pickups and a precision, beautiful sounding, go to alembic.com, then click the alembic club link, then go to factory to customer, then click "Flip's Custom Elan" and look through it because he's getting a copy of this bass made because he's in a Metallica cover band, you can also learn a lot about bass playing and such by looking through the forum
jason newsted kicks rob in the ass \m/ he kept metallica alive after cliff died late 86 to early 01 rob early 03 thru now man thats only 7 years man newsted was in metallica for 15 \m/
This is true metallica i mean just look at the end when james and kirk come out i bet jason never felt like metallica accepted him more than there ik i would if i were him
@HardyBoyFan101 I don't miss Jason, I prefer Rob he is closer Cliffs ability than Jason ever was. A truly great bassist doesn't need to play with a pick.
this song was written in memory of cliff so its only right that it start off wit their bassist, jason.its fucked up all these ppl give jason shit for playin cliff's riffs but nobody says shit when rob does it.
i see nothing wrong, seems like the only one that has a problem wit it is u.that performance after the solo was a tribute by the band for cliff,to show how much he meant to them even to jason.
@MrSFblack And how do you know that? Did you have an interview with Lars Ulrich?
"Oh yea seattle 89? i remember every second of that because it was our second latest show. yeah it was a tribute to cliff. nothing else. There was no story/message behind it, it was all about cliff"
so im sure cliff had an influence on him which made the playing of the song n tribute to cliff not just special for james lars n kirk, but for jason aswell.n if u cant understand that then ur lost man.
dude,a minute ago u commented sayin it WAS a tribute now ur sayin its not.u might wanna get things straight before u say them.plus,to live is to die is a tribute.metallica said themselves they made that song in memory of cliff.
whatever retard, next time u say shit u might wanna think about it first.first u say its a tribte then u say its not.are u dumb or just fuckin dislexic? lol oh well, either way ur a fuckin ass clown.
poobearpanda345 @MrSFblack And how do you know that? Did you have an interview with Lars Ulrich?
"Oh yea seattle 89? i remember every second of that because it was our second latest show. yeah it was a tribute to cliff. nothing else. There was no story/message behind it, it was all about cliff"
i never said Rob sucked, he's just an average bass player. Until he comes up with something great within Metallica, I won't be impressed. I realize his work in Suicidal Tendencies is awesome, but I would like to see some great bass lines like Jason and Cliff had.
i agree, rob may have done great things wit suicidal tendencies n infectious grooves.he was even good enough to play wit ozzy, but i have yet to be impressedby his work in metallica.he gets so much praise but hasnt yet reached the levels of cliff or even jason.
i hate this guys asking for tabs.
if you want to be a real musicians you must be able to get a song without tabs. that's the way old guys did like cliff or jason.

So I'm almost positive this is an Alembic
DominoDylan 1 year ago
@pankakeman800 it's an Alembic Elan with 2 jazz pickups and a precision, beautiful sounding, go to alembic.com, then click the alembic club link, then go to factory to customer, then click "Flip's Custom Elan" and look through it because he's getting a copy of this bass made because he's in a Metallica cover band, you can also learn a lot about bass playing and such by looking through the forum

We all miss Jason, but don't forget about Cliff.

@HardyBoyFan101 I don't miss Jason, I prefer Rob he is closer Cliffs ability than Jason ever was. A truly great bassist doesn't need to play with a pick.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
i don't like how they played to live is to die right after the solo considering the bass in that song was written by cliff
poobearpanda345 2 years ago
i just think it was a bit cruel on jason
poobearpanda345 2 years ago
@poobearpanda345
this song was written in memory of cliff so its only right that it start off wit their bassist, jason.its fucked up all these ppl give jason shit for playin cliff's riffs but nobody says shit when rob does it.
MrSFblack 1 year ago
@MrSFblack I agree but why the fuck did i get -6 and then +2
all i was sayin was it wasn't very nice jason to have to play that after the bass solo because cliff wrote it
if you people cant understand why im think that ur fucken retards

i see nothing wrong, seems like the only one that has a problem wit it is u.that performance after the solo was a tribute by the band for cliff,to show how much he meant to them even to jason.
MrSFblack 1 year ago
@MrSFblack And how do you know that? Did you have an interview with Lars Ulrich?
"Oh yea seattle 89? i remember every second of that because it was our second latest show. yeah it was a tribute to cliff. nothing else. There was no story/message behind it, it was all about cliff"
poobearpanda345 1 year ago
u think it meant nothing to jason either?
u gotta remember this was a guy who got to join his favorite band, metallica, while he was still a teenager.
MrSFblack 1 year ago
so im sure cliff had an influence on him which made the playing of the song n tribute to cliff not just special for james lars n kirk, but for jason aswell.n if u cant understand that then ur lost man.
MrSFblack 1 year ago
@MrSFblack i understand that but that is completely unrelated. This song was not a tribute to cliff.

this video proves that Jason is clearly better than Rob
BlackOxify 2 years ago 46
robs awesome too.
btw how can you compare them? they play different style (not talking about metal)
anyway, if you think rob sux, the why do you think metallica picked him? becouse they liked his look that day? lol!
feverhood 2 years ago 9
i never said Rob sucked, he's just an average bass player. Until he comes up with something great within Metallica, I won't be impressed. I realize his work in Suicidal Tendencies is awesome, but I would like to see some great bass lines like Jason and Cliff had.
BlackOxify 2 years ago
@BlackOxify
i agree, rob may have done great things wit suicidal tendencies n infectious grooves.he was even good enough to play wit ozzy, but i have yet to be impressedby his work in metallica.he gets so much praise but hasnt yet reached the levels of cliff or even jason.
MrSFblack 1 year ago
@BlackOxify I Disagree. THey are both great just diffrent. Jason can do meldoys better but rob can slap and other stuff like that better.
