@agnostaxian You've failed to understand his point at all. He isn't saying 0+0=1. Rather he's making the rather obvious statement that 0=1+(-1). This is unarguably true, and makes a lot of sense. The total net energy of the universe is zero, just as the net charge of the universe is zero. As Atkins says in another talk, "the universe is just a huge reorganization of nothing".
Is it possible for you to upload the rest of this extremely interesting and fascinating talk? I very much would like to hear how much Dr. Atkins improved his arguments for ex nihilo beginnings, which I have read in his masterwork Creation, and of which he admits were a little too much speculative.

I find it a bit strange how you are so ready to accept the possibility of immensely counter-intuitive and mind-boggling things existing....... except the possibility of God and the supernatural etc. How is your mind open and free having ruled out such a possibility?
That is just insanity, and many people simply refuse to see it for what it is. to actually believe 'anything' came out of nothing, is one thing, but then to suppose all of time and space with the laws that govern, came into being for no reason is insanity.
What are black holes, which we know that exist, a fallen star which is swallowing space from from our galaxy to nothing.....so if we know space can be sucked out to nothing, it is possible that nothing diffused something....cool huh

A universe that is approximately uniform in space, one can show that the negative gravitational energy exactly cancels the positive energy represented by the matter, on the total energy of the universe is ZERO. Theres many scientific inquiry that support similar claims, Am I going to squeeze them out of context like you, and tell you they mean that the world was made by zero?

Non-Being to Being is what you support. That is ridiculous. You may as well explain why anything would bothers to exist.
So with that, which premise do you deny?
1. Everything that exists has an explanation of its existence (either in the
necessity of its own nature or in an external cause).
2. If the universe has an explanation of its existence, that explanation is God.
3. The universe exists.
