Johnson honestly, i think, got lucky. Matt Kenseth, best drive of the day was taken out. Gordan was taken out. Stewart was penalized. There weren't alot of competitive cars at front near the end. No one helped Jr, who was at the time the best car there, make a move (back then, i would have died to draft with him and his car on daytona). I honestly think he shoved a golden horseshoe up his ass sideways at the begginning of the season. Ever notice when he has a vibration, a caution come out? yeah.

I remember listening to the drivers during this race talk about how it was pretty much raining the whole time in 1 and 2, and by the end of the race it was so foggy I can't believe they finished it. Fast forward to when Kennseth "won" it and they completed barely half the race, rain came soaked the track down, they call it. Rain moved out within an hour, could have dried the track and finished under the lights.

this race marked the beginning of the end of nascar. it ended at night and the winner was part of the new guard, and part of a clearly corrupt team. IT ENDED UNDER CAUTION! however, nascar has turned their act around this year and i applaud them for that, but they need to keep it up and in a way go back to their roots.

You need to wait with that move until turn 3, you don't do it in turn 1. And when you do make it you either better have a deal worked out with someone behind you, or hope like heck that the guy behind you decides to go with you. Or you get just what Jr got...screwed.

I don't think it was anything mechanical that actually pushed the rear window out, I believe it was just the window itself was bowed out more than what Nascar allowed. They found it when they put the template over the car. If it would have been something mechanical that pushed it out, they could have sucked the window back in for inspection. Either way, it was illegal, and they got busted, paid their price and went on to win the race in a perfectly legal car!

@gracethedog48 Yeah, it was described as a 'device' or mechanism by NASCAR tech, and they said it was actuated off of the right rear wedge bolt that you see teams adjust during pitstops, evidently the threads crossed and it jammed. It's one of those thigns, though. Everyone has cheated in racing for years, Chad really tried something extreme and got caught, it happens. I of course want to see Jimmie win his 5th straight, but if that streak were to be broken, I could live with that. The only I driver's I don't want to see do it are the 2, 11 or 18, by far my least favorite drivers in the series.

I'm like, "I'll be fine with it, he's won 4 in a row, that's never been done. Let me correct you. They failed POST QUALIFYING inspection, not post race inspection. And Nascar penalized him the same way they would hav penalized anyone, CC got fined and suspended, and they had to start at the back of the pack, there was no points penalty because it was the first race and they had no points to take away. They won the Daytona 500 with a perfectly legal car. After the race it was completely torn down and every piece was inspected.
