everyone screwed up those last 2 laps when dale made his move he was hoping elliot sadler and bowyer would go with him and they didint and when ryan made his move casey was going to go with him but ryan made it to fast and casey got under him
@980696 NASCAR's tv deal during 2001 to 2006 had NBC and FOX trade the coverage of each Daytona race. On odd number years FOX held the 500 and NBC had the Pepsi 400 and vice versa on even years.
its a shame that only newman and dale jr even tried to win the race. its the daytona fucking 500, if u are in position to win, u try, even if it means u end up in the wall. one of the crappiest 500 finishes
Johnson honestly, i think, got lucky. Matt Kenseth, best drive of the day was taken out. Gordan was taken out. Stewart was penalized. There weren't alot of competitive cars at front near the end. No one helped Jr, who was at the time the best car there, make a move (back then, i would have died to draft with him and his car on daytona). I honestly think he shoved a golden horseshoe up his ass sideways at the begginning of the season. Ever notice when he has a vibration, a caution come out? yeah

Rain moved out within an hour, could have dried the track and finished under the lights.
I went to this race, it was pretty damn awesome. It was amazing seeing dale jr lead. It kinda got boring when he lost it though, everyone single filed it. but never the less, it was still awesome.
this what started him to be the best driver IN NASCAR HISTORY I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT DALE JR SUCKS AND U ALL KNOW IT jimmie IS THE BEST DRIVER IN NASCAR 2ND ALL TIME TO RICHARD PETTY I AM A BIG JEFF GORDON SHOULD BE 3RD
this race marked the beginning of the end of nascar. it ended at night and the winner was part of the new guard, and part of a clearly corrupt team. IT ENDED UNDER CAUTION! however, nascar has turned their act around this year and i applaud them for that, but they need to keep it up and in a way go back to their roots.
How do you figure? Just because Jimmie is dominating.....and your not a 48 fan? It's not Nascar's, or Team 48's, or HMS's fault that no one has been able to step up and give Jimmie a true challenge. Please, explain how their team is "clearly corrupt".
im still shocked no one went with junior. dale had one of the fastest cars down there. he led the most laps in the race, and no one cared that if they went with him they would go to the front. its the DAYTONA 500 for God's sake. you either try to win or wreck. dale jr NEVER layed back in the 500 if he was in contention. no one seems to try if the #48 is going to win
i know. i hope the tests for them prove they are better. I wish they could make a car, that maintains all the safety of the COT, but is like those from the mid 1990s. let the manufactures decide what their cars want to look like, and distribute mechanical parts. we need unique cars out there and better racing, and thats all I, as well as any other long time fan, wants to see
mike joy used to be good, but lately he hasn't been that good. he's the best on fox though. he's pretty good.
I don't really like allen bestwick. paul page is ok, but not among the best. the guy I like commentating best right now, is kyle petty (when he does). He's very good.
@ChevyCamaro33 Yeah it is the Daytona 500, but playing follow the leader, until the time is right, is the key to winning. And yeah, sure Jr went, but he went way too early and it cost him. You need to wait with that move until turn 3, you don't do it in turn 1. And when you do make it you either better have a deal worked out with someone behind you, or hope like heck that the guy behind you decides to go with you. Or you get just what Jr got...screwed.
@ChevyCamaro33 "only jr showed he knew that" Ummmm Ryan Newman made a winning move on the back stretch. Casey Mears just hung him out to move up to second. Were you watching the same video as me??? As for the beginning of the end, Nascar is still fine. The races are good and people should just recognize Jimmie's greatness, respect it, and quit whining about nascar.
@kyleboy48 He was one of the best too, and I we all miss him. But the commentators I listed all worked together to commentate in the 90s and as far as a lineup goes, they were unmatched.
i still dont understand why NOBODY went with dale jr when he went to the outside through the tri oval coming to the final lap. if somebody went with him then he could have easily gotten to the front. oh well. he'll get it this year :D
Jr. was hoping that Elliot Sadler would have went up, but he did not which was a bad mistake. Jr. went because it was the Daytona 500 and if somebody went with him like robmerrill888 said "he could have easily gotten to the front.".
People who hate Johnson hate him for the wrong reasons. So your driver never gets to win, it MUST be because he's cheating right? It can't be because Jimmie Johnson can drive the hell out of a race car and gets top quality equiptment and has the best crew cheif who pushes his cars to the limit. Any other driver whould LOVE to be in Jimmie Johnsons shoes and every fan who hates Johnson wishes that their driver would win as much as him. He's just at the top of his game right now.
This ending of the race was kind of weak. It seemed like most of those drivers forgot that it was the Daytona 500 which is the biggest NASCAR race. Jr made a move and Newman made a move.
@WizardMaster03 he failed post qualifying inspection, had a mechanism that pushed the rear window outwart to keep air off of the rear spoiler and reduce drag. drastically illegal.
I don't think it was anything mechanical that actually pushed the rear window out, I believe it was just the window itself was bowed out more than what Nascar allowed. They found it when they put the template over the car. If it would have been something mechanical that pushed it out, they could have sucked the window back in for inspection. Either way, it was illegal, and they got busted, paid their price and went on to win the race in a perfectly legal car!
@gracethedog48 Yeah, it was described as a 'device' or mechanism by NASCAR tech, and they said it was actuated off of the right rear wedge bolt that you see teams adjust during pitstops, evidently the threads crossed and it jammed. It's one of those thigns, though. Everyone has cheated in racing for years, Chad really tried something extreme and got caught, it happens. I'm a huge 48 fan, been so since 2003 and this didn't bother me. Me and Dad joke when the 48 is one of the last through pre
Thats good stuff weaver!! Yeah, everyone pushes the envelope from time to time, heck if you're not, you're not doing your job. I'm also a huge 48 fan, have been since he went headfirst into the wall at Watkins Glen in a Busch race back in '01. Hope he can pull off 5 straight this year!!! Have a good one!!!!
@gracethedog48 His only real threat is the 11, I think. Harvick has shown consistency, but not the ability to be a threat to win races. Hamlin has shown consistant performance, and the ability to close the deal.
@weaverracing96 Couldn't agree more! I would like for Gordon or Burton to be his only real threat, but unfortunately that's not the case this year. I of course want to see Jimmie win his 5th straight, but if that streak were to be broken, I could live with that. The only I driver's I don't want to see do it are the 2, 11 or 18, by far my least favorite drivers in the series.
@gracethedog48 Yeah, I agree. All of my friends that are non48 fans are always like, "So what are you gonna do when he gets beat!?!? HUH!?!?" I'm like, "I'll be fine with it, he's won 4 in a row, that's never been done. And this is a streak, but all sports streaks come to an end, I just want him to be there at the end, so they have to beat HIM for HIS championship. If he's in contention going into Homestead, then I'm happy as long as he's fighting to defend it at the end.
@weaverracing96 Yup, even if he does get beat out this year, he's still done something that no one ever has before. 4 straight is pretty unbelievable!! 5 straight would be completely awesome! I just gotta say, if he does get beat, I hope he gets beat fair and square and doesn't fall victim to this stupid ass "have at it boys" BS mentality that Nascar is pushing so hard.
@BoSoxfan1997 Too bad he failed inspection and NASCAR found him cheating and using an illegal more aerodynamic piece of the back of his car. So he actually cheated himself into a win.
Let me correct you. They failed POST QUALIFYING inspection, not post race inspection. And Nascar penalized him the same way they would hav penalized anyone, CC got fined and suspended, and they had to start at the back of the pack, there was no points penalty because it was the first race and they had no points to take away. They won the Daytona 500 with a perfectly legal car. After the race it was completely torn down and every piece was inspected.
you know whats werid at 2:08 when the guy says jimmie johnson has won... jimmie comes in and finishes the sentence by saying the daytona 500
