secord, wensinck, cashman, o rielly, jonathon, milbury all on the same team and dressed...the bruins nowadays look like a bunch of gayboys in skirts in comparison.
I saw this game live. What they didn't show on the replay was where Jonathan took off his helmet and hit Lorimer in the face with it while Lorimer wasn't looking. That's how he got that huge gash and the fight started. Lorimer wasn't even engaged with Jonathan when he did that. It was the cheapest shot I've ever seen and to this day, I can figure out why Jonathan would do thaht to Lorimer(a non-fighter) of all people. Either way, Gillies pounded Jonathan in retirbution later.
I remember this game (and series) and series...classic hockey! There were a few years when the Ilanders where in their hayday that the Bruins were competative, but couldn't beat them, in a 7 game series. Anyone remember how many penalty minites were assested in this brawl?
@Rattus17 Cashman sure paid him back in Spades for the cheap shot! But you couldn't take nothing from Howatt, he was one of the tough guys in the league.
Billy Smith didn't look interested in fighting....he looks scared as hell without the cage on and a goalie stick in his hands.....great goalie, but a true coward.

Even that cheap shot artist Howert, taking a sucker punch at an aging Cashman got pummled into the ice. Great times at The Garden. Damb, I miss that place!
Hockey right up until the late 1980's was classic, the game today is garbage. All the corporate media fucks things up and the rules allow protect the so called superstars and give them more room to score. The superstars of those days, yeah guys like Orr, Robinson, Trottier, and others had their share of fights. Two great teams at this time, the Bruins were still great and the Islanders were just starting their dynasty. I think this series was the Islanders' baptism of fire. Once they got through the tough Boston defence and fought the ugly monsters like Jonathan, Milbury and O'Reilly, then the rest of the playoffs was a piece of cake for Islanders. Oh and the Flyers of the time were not tough like those Bruins. Bridgman and Clarke, the so called toughies were just dirty clowns.
Every time I watch this great clip I wish that Nystrom and Wensink would not have gone earlier in the period. Jonathan vs. Nystrom would have been an epic battle in this situation.
interfering? What are you watching? Howatt is the one who tried to jump in on the Jonathan Lorimer fight and Cash blocked him! Then Howatt suckered Cashman, and proceeded to get the living piss beat out of him! LMAO
Howatt does get the nod in his first tilt with Cash, and I'd give Gillies the nod in the 2nd fight with O'Reilly, although it was a slip. Terry POUNDED Gillies in the first fight. 2 of my favorite players of all time though, so I wont talk smack about either man.
They invited over 40 former Bruins back, and I think 34 or so showed up. Obviously the highlights were having Bobby Orr, the greastest player in history, and Norm Leveille, who was almost killed because of an anyerism, back on the garden ice. I can't speak intelligently as to why Cash wasn't singled out at the ceremony, but there were so many great players throughout the Bruins history that it would have been impossible to single them all out.
A limpwristed pansy.I never heard that before ProbertFire.Thats original.I wish I knew what to think but I have no idea who nailed it 100%.I hope you can solve this mystery for me and let me knew who would make such a funny comment.
I love how stan " picks up " lorimer after he floored him with that right. I agree howatt should have had jonathan in this situation, both he and stan REALLY wanted to go with someone. Cash was trying keep gary from going after anyone and just started throwing them at wayne. I wouldnt call it a sucker but he definately was not ready for it. Obviously that decision didnt work out to well for howatt, cash beat the shit out of him the rest of that fight. Great commentary also.
The Bruin and the Islander players respected each other. Neither team respected the cheap shot Flyers. For all the Islander fans complaints about the "homer Boston announcers," you need to listen to the Flyers broadcasters. Hands down, the absolute most bias bunch in hockey.
Ya, go back and watch your Sponge-Bob videos idiot. What's a matter? Don't like to watch the B's kick the shit out out of a bunch of Islander panzies?
@5inthehole Hey its ""HisBoyfriendsCockinHisHole", I'm not sure but I think the Islanders might have actually won this series????? Yup, I think it might have been round 2 on their way to 19 straight series wins and a dynasty with 4 consecutive championships. Hey, ya know what, I think the Islanders are the last team to win 4 straight championships. Yup, what has it been almost 30 years now??? Choke on that bitch and don't get your thong all twisted in a bunch.
Jonanthan was a typical Broon...a whiny Bawston puke and a complete loser. Gillies kicked O'Reilly's ass all over Bawston's ice and Secord was a complete jerk for smacking Lane while he was down. No wonder the Isles won it four times and the Broons never won with those crew of clowns.
Oh, so it was the refs, huh? How many times have I heard that from the whiny, self absorbed New England fans through the years!! I guess the refs cost you all THREE games up in BAWSTON GAWDEN, right? And those evil refs absolutely doomed your BROONS four years later when we took you out again in six games. Get real, pal, or get out of the pubs in Fanuiel Hall, I think the damage is just too extensive.
To be honest, what beat the B's was a guy called Bossy. I'm a die-heart Bruins fan but I got to call a spade a spade. He was something to see play hockey. One of the fastest shots in the NHL and deadly accurate. Oh yea, Trottier was no slouch either. I banged a big tited broad named Trotier, but that a story for another day! Ha-Ha!
As a huge Islander fan, I can't say that we did overly well in the brawl....but not having Gillies on the ice had a lot to do with it. Secord is a pussy for hitting Lane while down though..
Having said that, when the Bruins win 4 Cups in a row, they can come talk to us.....
Yea, Jonathan beat Lorimer, but I didn't see the Bs winning any of the other fights. I suppose Gillies lost a decision to O'Reilly in Round 1, but he then went on to win rounds 2-5. Otherwise, Howatt defeated Cashman and Nystrom defeated Wensink. And don't invoke Langevin getting dumped to the ice by McCrimmon -- my grandmother could've done that. Bammer could check, but not fight.
Howatt defeated Cashman??? I had to go back and watch it again to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Don't know what prescription glasses you got on there. Take away the first few punches when Howatt cheap shots Cashman and he didn't do much after that...oh and I'll take away points for the nice face rake Howatt does...real good fighter there!
On this particular clip (lasting 9:46) Cashman and Howatt fought to a draw, at least until they fell to the ice. However, on the clip lasting 5:10, Howatt outslugs Cashman, gets his jersey over the head and then dumps him to the ice.
All Islander fans should be eternally grateful to Bob Lorimer for getting stuck fighting Stan Jonathan. What a guy. Lorimer was quietly excellent and another underrated Islander. BTW, these announcers have to be the biggest homers in the history of sports: Cheevers offered Smith a "peace offering." Hah!!!!
Not to diminish Jonathan's pugilistic abilities, but he did manage to free his arms by removing his jersey quite often. I think he invented it! Of course, these days a player is assessed a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and a
I have seen Steve Kasper score many a game winner or g/t in the last minute of a game. Especially in Vancouver. He was Mr. Clutch. Nystrom also has this honour
Thanks for the number crunching,4877, it's really helpful. Try these numbers on for size as well..86 years for the Sox and still had to trade for NL pitchers like Schilling and Beckett to win. How about those Pats...and that great call in the snow against the Raiders a few years back. The Celts haven't won crap in 20 years and the Bruins haven't won since Tricky Dick was in the White House. Better hope your Super Bowl prediction comes true, pal.
Schilling was originally a RED SOX draft pick dipshit...but thanks for playing. The call against the Raiders was the CORRECT CALL, and even Al Davis doesnt dispute it. It was a stupid rule, but the ref called it according to the Rule. The Celts won 3 between 80 and 86. When was the last Knicks championship? And NY has no world championships this CENTURY! (which began in 2001 dumbass...even though you think it began in 2000) lol Boston 8 NY-0 this century!
Hey Boston 4877 call me Mr. Dipshit or Mr. Dumbass, Shithead! You can also call me a fan of the World Champion New York Giants! My guys just put the cuffs on your boy Brady. You still didn't answer my question about the final outcome of the series, which saw your Broons lose in 5 games. Oh, as a side point the Isles went on the Cup and did it three years in a row after that. Enjoy your Super Bowl prediction, asshole, hope it tastes as good as Gisele did for Tommy boy.
hey congrats! It must have been a dream of yours to see the New Jersey Giants win after almost 15 years! It would be so Awesome if the Boston Celtics actually played their games in Connecticut! Then everyone can root for the! Your city REALLY has to suck for people to rather play in that toxic shithole called New Jersey! Boston is still up 5-1 this millenium....and with only 4 teams, not 7!
oh man that brings back great memories, when hockey was hockey. the days before the nhl sold out to the fringe p.c. soccer mom watching crowd. milbury was a pussy though. he played that way and when coaching the bruins he turned them from the big bad bruins into the big pussy bruins. will never forgive him for that one.
Cashman did a good job on Howatt after we was suckered early. Anyone else notice that MacTavish was wearing a helmet here? He was one of the last players not to wear a helmet in the league.
You notice that that real tough guy potvin sucks doesn't lift a finger to help any of his teammates. Lorimer wasn't tough enough to sell newspapers on a street corner. The shitty Boston announcers complained that Howatt suckered Cashman but they had no problem that Jonathan jumped a non fighter.
Jonathan didn't JUMP anyone. He grabbed the closest guy which is what you do in a brawl. As far as Howatt goes, it WAS a sucker punch, and he got his ass handed to him in the second half of the fight. Every Islander was on the BOTTOM or left bleeding in a heap..lol
another youtube tough guy! lol Jonathan was the Domi of his day. He gave up 6-9 inches in height to most of his opponents, and left them bloody laying on the ice most of the time!
also stan actually went pretty easy on Lorimer. After he knocked him down he had the right hand ready to keep pounding him but didnt cuz deep, deeeeeeeeeeep, down he's a nice guy
It has to be embarrasing as an Islanders fan to watch this clip. Short Island players getting waxed all over the ice. The Islanders are an afterthought on the NY sports scene.
The Bruins can't beat the much tougher Islanders and they focus on the second or, more so, third tier fighters. The Islanders also, obviously, evoke a special, primal fear in the Bruins as they are one of the few teams that they seem to resort to interference on (a regular Flyer tactic) as they know they will be pummeled if they stand toe-to-toe!
Two typical f...n Boston folks on the juice and in their own fu..n drunk Irish bar world. Let's see, Jonathan beat Lorimar. Belanger and Cheevers were able to handle Smith together. Secord wrestled Lane to the ice and "flailed away" whereby Lane got up and evened up the positions and Secord went gulp. Cashman edged Howatt just after Howatt changed Cashman's diaper the previous fight. Nystrom toyed with Wensink. O'reilly beat Gilles then got handed his unimpressive face the next three fights.
Also I remember the fans counting the punches Cashman threw at Howatt. After 5 or 6 they were yelling 1-2-3-4. Howatt thought an aging Cashman would be a push-over. Ahh I miss ole time hockey..
You were on the same juice all the Boston commentators, fans, and players are on. Anyone who sees the videos knows you B' fans are stupid klucks and you'll get yr ass whooped if you talk that way in NY
Been living in NYC for 15 years. And yes I do wear my Red Sox Patriots Celtics and Bruins high and openly. (Had to knock out one particular loudmouth know it all).
bruthav you won't find the video because ipwjr is either yanking your chain or is on crack. I was at this game and the only snot Nystrom was touching were his own.
Jp seems to be a serial poster here. His nonsensical babbling is a a vain attempt to detract from the video evidence clearly showing the Icelanders players getting their asses kicked.
When watching this, let's not forget that Gillies and Nystrom (the top two Islander enforcers) were already in the locker room. The B's and Sinden reached a point where they realized they couldn't beat the Isles by just playing hockey, so they tried to out cheapshot/goon them, thinking that the pre-1980 Islander myth about them being too timid to fight back. The Islanders have Boston to thank for dispeling that myth and paving their path to 4 straight championships.
I kind of felt bad for Lorimer. He shouldnt have been paired up with Jonathan, who I think was the toughest player pound-for-pound. Glad to see Cashman hang with that punk Howatt.
Look at the teams the Isles had to beat to win the cup in 1980. Boston, Buffalo and Philly. All 100+ point teams.

Every time I watch this great clip I wish that Nystrom and Wensink would not have gone earlier in the period. Jonathan vs. Nystrom would have been an epic battle in this situation.

jcnyut000000000000 3 years ago
interfering? What are you watching? Howatt is the one who tried to jump in on the Jonathan Lorimer fight and Cash blocked him! Then Howatt suckered Cashman, and proceeded to get the living piss beat out of him! LMAO
Howatt does get the nod in his first tilt with Cash, and I'd give Gillies the nod in the 2nd fight with O'Reilly, although it was a slip. Terry POUNDED Gillies in the first fight. 2 of my favorite players of all time though, so I wont talk smack about either man.

Why wasn't Cashman honoured during the closing ceremony of the Gardens?
voisindo 2 years ago
They invited over 40 former Bruins back, and I think 34 or so showed up. Obviously the highlights were having Bobby Orr, the greastest player in history, and Norm Leveille, who was almost killed because of an anyerism, back on the garden ice. I can't speak intelligently as to why Cash wasn't singled out at the ceremony, but there were so many great players throughout the Bruins history that it would have been impossible to single them all out.
BoSoxnation1972 2 years ago

Hey, ya know what, I think the Islanders are the last team to win 4 straight championships. Yup, what has it been almost 30 years now??? Jonanthan was a typical Broon...a whiny Bawston puke and a complete loser. Gillies kicked O'Reilly's ass all over Bawston's ice and Secord was a complete jerk for smacking Lane while he was down. No wonder the Isles won it four times and the Broons never won with those crew of clowns.
ChrisDutch 3 years ago
pound for pound stan was the toughest in the league.by the way the refs won the series for you.kuzen mein weiss asch.
seantd11 3 years ago

Ha-Ha!

badumpy 3 years ago
As a huge Islander fan, I can't say that we did overly well in the brawl....but not having Gillies on the ice had a lot to do with it. Secord is a pussy for hitting Lane while down though..
Having said that, when the Bruins win 4 Cups in a row, they can come talk to us.....
clebo99 3 years ago
Islanders did better on the clip lasting 5:10. Nystrom also won a decision over Wensink.
Envelope86 3 years ago
It was more than a decision. I do not think Wensink wanted to go near Nystrom after that.
jcnyut000000000000 3 years ago

fakinbakin 3 years ago
I believe that Joe is Joe Gordan from the Quincy Patriot Ledger. I was at this game. B's lost in O.T. but at least we won the fights
fluffylilly 3 years ago
Yea, Jonathan beat Lorimer, but I didn't see the Bs winning any of the other fights. I suppose Gillies lost a decision to O'Reilly in Round 1, but he then went on to win rounds 2-5. Otherwise, Howatt defeated Cashman and Nystrom defeated Wensink. And don't invoke Langevin getting dumped to the ice by McCrimmon -- my grandmother could've done that. Bammer could check, but not fight.
Envelope86 3 years ago
Howatt defeated Cashman??? I had to go back and watch it again to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Don't know what prescription glasses you got on there. Take away the first few punches when Howatt cheap shots Cashman and he didn't do much after that...oh and I'll take away points for the nice face rake Howatt does...real good fighter there!
gummy427 3 years ago
On this particular clip (lasting 9:46) Cashman and Howatt fought to a draw, at least until they fell to the ice. However, on the clip lasting 5:10, Howatt outslugs Cashman, gets his jersey over the head and then dumps him to the ice.
Envelope86 3 years ago
wasnt craig mactavish the last man to not where a helmet in the nhl? but he has one on in this video

Envelope86 3 years ago
Not to diminish Jonathan's pugilistic abilities, but he did manage to free his arms by removing his jersey quite often. I think he invented it! Of course, these days a player is assessed a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and a
game misconduct if he does that.
Envelope86 3 years ago
Ok, he was in the top five.

ChrisDutch 4 years ago
Schilling was originally a RED SOX draft pick dipshit...but thanks for playing. The call against the Raiders was the CORRECT CALL, and even Al Davis doesnt dispute it. It was a stupid rule, but the ref called it according to the Rule. The Celts won 3 between 80 and 86. When was the last Knicks championship? And NY has no world championships this CENTURY! (which began in 2001 dumbass...even though you think it began in 2000) lol Boston 8 NY-0 this century!

Cashman did a good job on Howatt after we was suckered early. Anyone else notice that MacTavish was wearing a helmet here? He was one of the last players not to wear a helmet in the league.

The Cashman-Howatt main event was a good one. You don't often see good fights in a BCB, but that was an exception.
fls13ec 4 years ago
You notice that that real tough guy potvin sucks doesn't lift a finger to help any of his teammates. Lorimer wasn't tough enough to sell newspapers on a street corner. The shitty Boston announcers complained that Howatt suckered Cashman but they had no problem that Jonathan jumped a non fighter.
meanwiddlekid 4 years ago
Jonathan didn't JUMP anyone. He grabbed the closest guy which is what you do in a brawl. As far as Howatt goes, it WAS a sucker punch, and he got his ass handed to him in the second half of the fight. Every Islander was on the BOTTOM or left bleeding in a heap..lol

It has to be embarrasing as an Islanders fan to watch this clip. Short Island players getting waxed all over the ice. The Islanders are an afterthought on the NY sports scene.
BostonGarden 4 years ago
The Bruins can't beat the much tougher Islanders and they focus on the second or, more so, third tier fighters. The Islanders also, obviously, evoke a special, primal fear in the Bruins as they are one of the few teams that they seem to resort to interference on (a regular Flyer tactic) as they know they will be pummeled if they stand toe-to-toe!
jcnyut000000000000 3 years ago

dadblair 4 years ago
Two typical f...n Boston folks on the juice and in their own fu..n drunk Irish bar world. Let's see, Jonathan beat Lorimar. Belanger and Cheevers were able to handle Smith together. Secord wrestled Lane to the ice and "flailed away" whereby Lane got up and evened up the positions and Secord went gulp. Cashman edged Howatt just after Howatt changed Cashman's diaper the previous fight. Nystrom toyed with Wensink. O'reilly beat Gilles then got handed his unimpressive face the next three fights.
jcnyut000000000000 4 years ago

albertarn 4 years ago
When watching this, let's not forget that Gillies and Nystrom (the top two Islander enforcers) were already in the locker room. The B's and Sinden reached a point where they realized they couldn't beat the Isles by just playing hockey, so they tried to out cheapshot/goon them, thinking that the pre-1980 Islander myth about them being too timid to fight back. The Islanders have Boston to thank for dispeling that myth and paving their path to 4 straight championships.
