Wow! What an excellent close-up on one of my favorite songbirds! I see this bird in my backyard every day in the summertime, and this video makes the bird seem really big! Even though they are actually quite small (around 5 inches long), they are still pretty birds!
what state is this? I live in Louisiana and trying to get them here, I here they come in the Fall. Can any give me idea about when to put the feeders out and where to hang them? Thanks! Love the video:)
Hi Tigerfan110, nice to meet you. I'm from Connecticut and they stay here all year long. I'm surprised to learn they visit louisiana only from fall to winter...All I know is that thistle is the magic ingredient for attracting them:D Come September I'd put up a thistle feeder....it might take a month for them to discover it but it is worth the wait:D
The Brighter the yellow of the males is a sign the older they are, young males are not totally yellow yet until second summer.... but these birds molt for winter as well.
I rescued a baby goldfinch out of a gutter. I looked down and thought it was just an ornament then it started to move. He was the size of a golf ball but not as pretty as this guy. I had to use a paint brush to feed him every other hour. I took him to a bird rescue where he was released back into the wild. Yay I always think about him when I see Goldfinches. : )
Do you offer them little napkins at the feeder? ;-)
He is truly a beautiful creature. And I'm so amazed at how detailed your close-ups are. Loved the way you ended it, too with the yellow and black. Nice one, David.
beautiful!
