I think I was using phosphor bronze mediums on this, probably D'Addario. Yep, I know it sounds screwy for an archtop, but the 5th Avenue really comes alive with them on. HDA
@littlewolfofficial You need to try them back to back. The Kingpin has a different response and dynamic, which is no bad thing at higher volumes. But if you just want to lift the volume slightly, while keeping the vibrancy, then this acoustic model plus a K&K archtop transducer would be one option, or a floating neck PU (with pickup mounted volume/tone) another, both without cutting into the wood! Too many variables for a short reply - so the best advice is find a dealer...! HDA
@littlewolfofficial You are very welcome. My reply should of course have read 'pickGUARD mounted vol / tone'!! You can keep the original pickguard to one side in case you wish to revert, and have another cut from a template to include the controls. The jack connection could be through the endpin or (for true reto authenticity) mounted on the pickguard as well so not splinter of wood is changed. Lots of good pickups nowadays so plenty of choice. Cheers!
50% of the sound is the archtop guitar's natural punchiness, 50% those massive old stone retaining walls reflecting / scattering the sound forward to a trusty but not-so-state-of-the-art stereo lavalier condenser microphone connected to the camcorder and sitting out of shot. it can be spotted in the second Blind Dog clip sitting on a gorillapod on the cliff side. Would you suggest getting the Acoustic model and fitting a pickup or opting for the p90 version?
