I Lived in this city for 3 years .. in winter the temperature drops down to -50 *c and you could see people walking and doing their jobs normally . but the weird part is ... the sun only appears 4 months a year . ,, because in winter .. you wouldn't be able to see the sun for 8 months .
some times when the temperature drops too low like -62* c for example at that time . even engines wont work .. it was one of my BEST TRIPS EVER . and i hope i return
helsinki is "a bit" milder than yakutsk etc. but the temperatures can still vary from -25C to 30C.. I think this year will prove a lot of variance, as the winter was freezing and long and the summer's gonna be hot. it's 12C now (it's evening though, 10pm), I could be out there very well with no shirt at all.
@Var1113 I LIVE IN THE NORTH OF ITALY AND NOW THE TEMPERATURE IS ABOUT -5/6...AND FOR ME (US) IT IS ALREADY TOO MUCH !!! IT IS AMAZING TO LIVE WITH A TEMPERATURE OF -40...HOW CAN YOU RESIST AND LIVE OVER THERE ? IS IT POSSIBLE TO DRIVE, TO WALK...OR TO WORK ? HOW CAN YOU ARRANGE AND ADAPT ANYTHING IN THOSE CONDITIONS ? CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE STRONG RESISTANCE...REALLY !!!
@PINOPONNESO maybe that's because Italy have no or very short winter. I went to Verona several years ago, in late January, temperature was about +6 C..........people were wearing gloves WTF !! ?? ?!?!?
@japtca IN VERONA, LIKE IN THE REST OF THE NORTH OF ITALY, WINTERS ARE QUITE "WET"...I MEAN A LOT OF UMIDITY AND FOG, SO IT IS NOT REALLY A "NICE" FEELING FOR THE SKIN AND THE BONES, THIS IS WHY PEOPLE OVER THERE, I IMAGINE ESPECIALLY FEMALES, WERE WEARING WOOL OR LEATHER GLOVES. ALSO DO NOT FORGET THAT THE 99% OF THE ITALIANS "ARE IN LOVE" WITH THE SUN...OR BETTER WE ARE "SONS OF THE SUN"...THOSE ARE THE TWO MAIN EXPLANATIONS !!!
@PINOPONNESO yes ok, in my country winter temperature can get as low as -35C so in my eyes it look a little weird to wear gloves, thick close when outside is +7C.
click on me if you want to see how winter is in my hometown.
@PINOPONNESO, when it comes to driving, they use petrol only. Imagine buses and trucks on petrol, not on oil. They can't have diesel engines there because of the weather. Fortunately, they have quite a lot petrol there so it's quite cheap.
@omerkhan678 Vodka? It is not a must! It is not good to drink Vodka, better tea. And 5 times a day a hot meal. You go to shops, museums, there it is 25-27 plus, so you have a contrast of 60-70 degree everytime.
@Jtiger987 I already knew this info about the cold and obviously "almost inhabitated cold" regions of Russia...anyway spazibo (if you are russian of course) !
Hello ! i want to know which tyres do you use with that cold weather : regular winter tyres only ? winter tires with nails ? Have they got additionaly chains, or chains with nails ?
@AnyColourTheyLike ordinary winter tyres! :) ones with nails can be offered by wealthy dudes. pretty expensive on this part of Siberia. what prices for nailed tyres? no idea... never interested :)
its easier for u to endure it cuz air is not so wet in continental climate ,-30 in Latvia feels probably the same i guess and a -30 wind is not very pleasant :D

Firstly the Locals are born there, they have some sort of body familiarity with the environment,
Secondly, they don't wear normal clothing made of everyday fabric, not at-least wholly,
THEY MUST AND THEY DO WEAR Clothes made out of "Animal Fur" Bears and so on. Cap is a Must.
Thirdly, they also take great care. for example to have a good meal & shots of Vodka before they go out, that would help you fight the intense cold.
Their diet is extremely rich in FATS and entirely of MEAT.
