  • Hermosa cancion ...Beatigul song .. Que musica tan tierna en la experesion de Karen lindisima

  • Karen sings this Hymn of Mary in Latin. Her voice is that of an Angel honoring the mother of Jesus. Only someone who believes in what they are singing can sing so beautifully from the heart.

  • without a doubt the most beautiful voice in the world.........no one matches her then or today.....everytime my mom hears her sing she cries........voice of an Angel.........

  • One of favorite songs of all time.Karen sings it so angelic brought tears to my eyes.

  • I love Karen Carpenter! She is my all-time favorite singer! She's got that unforgettable, sweet, angelic alto voice that can be distinguished from miles away! I don't understand a word of this song, but it's so beautiful and romantic!!!!

What language is she singing in? Is it Latin or Italian? Someone please tell me... d:o)

  • PERRY COMO DOES THIS SONG IN ITALIAN, WITH HIS VOICE, HIS HUMILITY, ITS EASY TO UNDERSTAND WHY THIS MAN OWNED THE GIFT OF SINGING HYMNS.

KAREN AND PERRY'S RENDITION'S ARE NOT TO BE MISSED FOR BOTH IMPART THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS INTO YOUR HEART. JUST AN AMAZING TALENT AND GIFT.

  • @HowieMLong75 Perry Comois from hometown! Canonsburg Pa

  • @padude64 Thanks for that info. I thought he was from Ohio but that must be Dean Martin.

In Perry's later years, he and his lovely wife lived in Asheville NC. A gracious man I was honourd to meet.

  • I love this version and want to learn it. Karen's voice is absolutely beautiful. I hope I can do the song justice.

  • SIMPLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not sure what being or not being Catholic has to do with being moved by the Holy Spirit when hearing this song being sung by the likes of Karen Carpenter....

  • @HowieMLong75 No, you don't have to be Catholic to enjoy Karen's beautifull voice, but this is about Mary, the mother of Jesus. Catholics focus on Mary more than Protestants do. I think that Perry Como was Cathlic. Barbra Streisand I love but she, in this case, doesn't believe what she's singing. No offense, but I can't listen to Jewish people sing Christmas carols. I'm not talking about secular songs about Christmas. I wouldn't listen to Christians singing Jewish Hannukah songs.I love Karen

  • @mjimme I DON'T BELIEVE I HINTED ONE NEEDS TO BE CATHOLIC TO ENJOY KAREN CARPENTER'S RENDITION OF 'AVA MARIA' MY COMMENT IS, REGARDLESS OF WHAT CHRISTIAN RELIGION ONE IS LISTENINT 2 HER SING THIS SONG WOULD OR SHOULD CERTAINLY FEEL SOMET SPIRITUAL EMOTIONS WHILE SHE SINGS THIS SONG. MY WIFE AND I ARE CATHOLIC BUT CERTAINLY DON'T BELIEVE CATHOLIC'S HAVE THE MONOPLY ON BEING INSPIRED BY A HYMN LIKE AVA MARIA JEWISH SINGERS SINGING AVA MARIA WOULD BE LIKE ME GOING TO A JEWISH TEMPLE 4 HI HOLY DAYS

  • @HowieMLong75

    I totally agree with you.

  • @mjimme Let's not forget that Jesus and Maria were Jewish ; so there is some connection there beyond religion. I am catholic ,but don't mind hearing someone like Streisand singing Ave Maria.

  • very good! Is fantastic!

  • There will never be another Karen Carpenter! She has that one in 10 billion voice!!! Sincerely, BobbyK Happy Holidays!!!

  • Perfeita!

    Perfect she!

  • I LOVE KARENS.. rendering of this MOVING.. Christmas.. CLASSIC! Missing you still.. KAREN! Merry Christmas.. TO ONE AND ALL!

  • Most beautiful rendition of Ave Maria ever... Maybe that's why God took her early... No other angel could sing so well to him at Christmas. I can't hear this without feeling a sharp pang of sadness. This was sung by a choir at Karen's funeral.

  • what's up with the terrible audio quality?

  • 5 people Ave Problem!

  • OMG ! WOW !

  • Have never heard a better version since this came out in the late 70's.....cannot listen to this without the tear ducts flowing...just a fabulous rendition..

  • ELA É MUITO PERFEITA

  • My God what a beautiful voice!

  • Wow... just wow... Such a hauntingly amazing voice.

  • a mais linda.

  • wonderful - singing in heaven

  • Karen : I wanna go to heaven to see you for eternity .

  • Wow !!!!!! This was the year i was born. Thanks for posting... I am Catholic and appreciate this song sung so perfectly by an angel!

  • Beautiful just beautiful...God rest her soul in peace.

  • this angel's singing in Heaven now

  • Absolutely heavenly. Thank you Karen.

  • What a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song. Karen is now singing this song in the presence of our Holy Mother.

  • She had the voice of an Angel

  • I've been a 'CARPENTER'S' fan all of my life :)))

  • She is so thin in this video but a voice that will never be equaled ever. One of her best songs she ever did.

  • @Hotdarling21 She is very thin in this video. Especially in her arms. It is so sad. Her voice was always just so perfect though.

  • A beautiful rendition but I prefer Bing Crosby's version from the movie "Going My Way"

    Check it out.

  • @kchaney56 i did. and it stunk so bad i had to hold my nose.

  • Thank you for uploading this song with its lyrics in Latin which used to be the church Mass language all over the world. I love it, I love the heavenly voice of the Carpenter. Hail Mary pray for us.

  • i really love this woman...cuz that should absolutely be the most angelic voice this world ever had ♥

amazing version of Ave Maria :)

  • An angel's singing for us.

  • @trinitycat9 Yes, an angel.

  • i agree 100%. i could not have expressed the truth about this better than you have

  • I named my daughter Maria when I heard Karen sing this in 1978. I cried so hard when I heard we had lost her. I guess God needed an Angel to see that song perfecty for heaven.

  • Feb. 4. Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: (…) But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest, Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. Well said, Willie
  • great! brilliant!

  • Gosh... I am not even catholic and even so this rendition of Ave Maria almost moves me to tears. Karen Carpenter had the most beautiful, pure, rich voice possible...

  • Sound quality not too hot, but lovely hearing the richness of Karen's voice. Will see if I can find the original recording..CD??? Any suggestions welcome.

  • @Matuku35 I have it on The Carpenters Christmas CD. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

  • @Mikes66442 Thanks, I got it off i-tunes, Such a beautiful voice.

  • @Matuku35 Yes extremely beautiful. Brings me to tears to hear such beauty.

  • beautiful voice!!!..so unique..

  • Two people (angels??) must be from the actual true heaven, because ear has not heard, nor eye has seen (on earth).

  • Karen actually looked like an angel while singing this, as well having the voice and beauty of one.

  • there will never be another Karen Carpenter

  • Listening to Karen's beautiful voice in this song brings tears to my eyes. God it's so beautiful!!!

  • Karen has no body left here - died of anorexia - what a waste

  • Gorgeous ... real "spine tingling" music. Thanks for putting it on :-)

  • Beautiful,, and in Latin, as it should be sung. What a tragedy for us all that we lost Karen Carpenter. Thanks for posting.

  • Less than 81,000 views on probably the best vocal i've (subjective, I know) ever heard??

  • nunca escuche nada igual..espectacular,,,,

  • my wife sings much better.

  • @doromamire Then post her!!

  • @doromamire Yeah...Post her...

  • Karen's voice was truly that of an angel! I miss her so.

  • oh karen, nothing she does will ever irk me. she is simply the best singer to ever live. im serious. there is no better singer...no matter what.

  • ...the definitive version.

  • Meine Frau singt viel besser.

  • @doromamire Du spinnst! Karen Carpenter singt ueberhaupt am besten.

  • so sad karen c. left us so soon but thank you for this vid!

  • Truly the voice of an angel...I believe God and his son Jesus are very happy with Karen singing to them in heaven.....God bless her!

  • @Timcoplawyer I couldn't agree more!

  • ahhhhhhhhh

  • One of Karen's most beautiful song, just the right voice for this lovely aria.

  • ein wundervolles Lied egal wer es singt es muß Gefühl dabei sein dann stimmt es immer

  • angelic, not operatic...

    simple yet sublime...

    heavenly!

  • maravilhoso!!

  • God bless Karen, the best female voice ever!

  • @temprano69 yes she was,

  • this song is heavenly! wow i really wish that she's stillcwith us now. i was only 2 yrs old when she past away ,but hes songs are still with us. she's the best...powerfull-soft voice...moves me really.

  • God Bless you Karen you always be the top of the best!!!

Thanks for all the moments you were with my Baby and Me!!!

Now I'm sure, you and my lovely wife sings together before God in a beautiful Duet!!!

  • All her songs are beautiful. I'll listen to her music when I'm sad or depress. It lightens up my spirit.

  • Karen looks and sounds angelic here. I hope she is still singing wherever she is.

  • Lots of echo to help her out on this one, note perfect, great control, but she's smart enough to go for a lower register as her voice is quite soft and her upper octaves not strong enough. As great as Karen was, I prefer a good trained soprano on this one.

She's a pop singer. Interesting to compare with the recent phenomenon, New Zealander Hayley Westenra, who is a sublime classical soprano struggling to find her way with pop material. I love both of them. Wish they could have done a duet.

  • Love it!!!

  • Dificilmente teremos uma voz doce como a de Karen.

  • I do not know which is more extraordinary; her beautiful voice or her amazing breath control. In any case, this performance is truly a gift to us all.

  • I really love them! They are great!

  • Karen Carpenter had one of the most beautiful voices, EVER. My tastes in music are pretty eclectic (from opera to rock), but Carpenter is simply brilliant!

  • Beautiful.

  • No one sings like Karen Carpenter.

  • Woaaaaa!!!! Vai cantah bem assim lá em casa.... =P

    Adorei!!!! q voz eh essa...

    iuahsiuahsia

    UP UP UP

  • Is this her later years?

What a breathing capacity she had!

And what a beautiful, deep voice!

  • Ela era maravilhosa. Jorge

  • The Best Ave Maria is from Hitman!! But this is beautifull too.

  • God I miss her. Simply the best.

  • Is there nothing this Goddess could not sing?

  • arpeggio at 2:10 shows her beautiful range and vocal control

  • This shows the range that Karen had.... she was so much more than a pop singer ......

  • ¡Qué bien pronuncia el latín! Sólo en dos momentos chasquea levemente las "T". Karen es preciosa y su interpretación también.

  • PURE MAGIC!

  • This song was sang at my wedding in front of the Virgin Mary statue, and then at the death of my wife 32 years later. This is a beautiful version of the song by Karen. I miss both my wife and Karens beautiful voice!

  • Hands down the best version of "Ave Maria" performed by a pop singer.

  • How sad a day it is for all music lovers when comments such as yours Cicilo1983 attempt to label artists by class - snobbery is unwelcome in music, in my opinion.

  • I'm just stating a fact. The Carpenters are a self-described pop band. That's pretty obvious. If anything, that comment was a compliment, not an attempt to label anyone. It has nothing to do with class - an opera singer would obviously deliver a quite different version of this beautiful song, and so would a gospel singer. People don't get upset when Monet is described as an impressionist, why should anyone get upset when Karen Carpenter is described as a pop singer? Lay off the needless drama.

  • @Cicilo1983 THANK YOU!!! I'm so tired of being beaten up for saying that a particular singer is a pop or pop opera singer or whatever. Their fans have a fit. there are, as you say, may different types of singers. I like your analogy with Monet!

  • @bruckner0001, some people just don't have a life, which is why they get so worked up over stuff like that. I guess you're not one of those people either ! :)

  • @Cicilo1983 Totally Agree!

  • @Cicilo1983 I absolutely love love Karen Carpenter....Jewel does a gorgeous version of it too!

  • @Cicilo1983 NO QUESTION! Karen could sing anything!

  • absolutely! i just wish she would have sung O Holy Night, too

  • @nakedBison69 I agree with you! She would've sung that beautifully .......

  • such a beautiful song and karen sang this so beautifully!!! wow, goosebumps for me.

  • @clarrisina It gave me goose bumps too. I don't know why but I think Karen sings it better than anyone I have heard. I have heard Celine Dions version but still like Karens better. R.I.P. Karen. We miss you.

  • I just wished the background instruments sounded better to complement such a wonderful voice. :)

  • @8javed I agree but back then that was probably all they had. It still sounded beautiful.

  • @8javed She had one of the most beautiful voices, and a duo that has never been matched to this day. Sounds like a synthesizer, I agree a piano, or something else would have been much better. Different era with different sound. Back then 8-track tapes were state of the art technology, I‘m not sure cassettes were even available yet. I think the recording could be cleaned up a bit though. Still wonderful to hear! I sent you another video, hopefully it works correctly. Regards

  • @torro454 This was from the late 70's, which means 8 tracks were already dead. Cassettes were the top format at that time, even though vinyl was still very popular and the best sounding. The poor sound quality here is from the playback on an inferior turntable, not the recording itself.

  • @infinera06 I didn't see the date, but was referring to general era. This looks like badly deteriorated Video Film to me, and professionally recorded. I can't imagine them using inferior equipment to edit with. It also accounts for poor sound quality. I have some Video Tapes in similar condition, but home made. It does sound similar to an old scratched up vinyl record though. I hope they have it digitally restored, it would help. It would be a real shame to loose this film. Regards.

  • @torro454 This is from Carpenters' TV Christmas show in 78, and this particular clip is most likely a VHS recording off the air. The audio portion is most likely from an old scratched up vinyl record. What you hear are not only pops and clicks, but also mistracking distortions from an inferior cartridge/tonearm. I have the original vinyl and it sounds pristine.I am sure there is a master copy of the video somewhere in Richard's archive.

  • @infinera06 Why would you edit a tape with a worn out record when it was broadcast complete. That doesn't make sense. There are two other versions that have descent quality sound but still have a pop and a hiss, though minimal. Are you saying they all edited the tape with the record, or just this person? Even the master will deteriorate. A record of the concert doesn't surprise me it is a treasure. I just don't remember it's release.

  • @torro454 I can think of a couple of reasons. The broadcast was not in stereo back then, so whoever did this probably thought it would be better to use the stereo analogue version, albeit a worn out one. The fact that this is stereo tells you it isn't the original audio track. I have heard the other ones, and they are nowhere near as bad as this one. This was not from a concert, but a TV special. Karen was lip synching as you may notice. I actually remember watching this when it was broadcast.

  • @infinera06 I can't tell its lip synched, the whole video is that way on my computer. But it seems obvious it was synched originally, due to the setting. Yea, I remember the concert, or TV special too, but not well. I don't see anywhere that it states it is not the original sound track however. It sure seems pointless to me if that's the case. There are a number of videos on UTube from that Christmas special. Regards.

  • Ave Maria Gratia plena Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus ventris tui Tui, Jesus Santa Maria Santa Maria,Maria Ora ora pronobis Peccatoribus Nunc et nunc et in hora Nunc et in hora mortis Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae In hora mortis nostrae Ave Maria
  • Angel's voice...

  • ...it could be 90 degrees in the shade and Karen Carpenter's vocal rendition would give me chills.

  • excellent comment! i applaud you! so perfectly expressed! :-)

  • the lyrics are the same as in any version of Ave Maria..it's the catholic prayer "Hail Mary" in latin

  • one of my favorite renditions..i like the Bach/Gounod version better then Schubert

  • what version is it? These lyrics arenot the same as i have seen....cant find it..anybody?

  • These lyrics are from the prayer in ancient latin language. If you'd like could write them down for you.

  • its ok thank u. only wanted to know the name of the "version".. there lots of versions out there

  • It is the "Gounod" version of Ave Maria. If you watch the documentary entitled "Close to You: Remembering the Carpenters", Richard speaks about Karen's performance of this song on he comments on this version of Ave Maria being "a real bear to sing" but states that Karen performs it masterfully which I truely agree she does. Her version is my all-time favorite ....

  • Ok..thanks for that info. : )

  • I just watched some other footage and this one definitely shows her as much too thin. Why does society still allow girls/women to become sticks when it is NOT healthy at all!

  • My GOD!!!!! What a beautiful song!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely fabulous! I read an article that this was one of Karens favorite songs and that it was played at her funeral. Though she left us way to soon, she left lots of beautiful music for us to listen to. I grew up during the 70's listening to her pitch perfect voice singing hit after hit and there was no other female who could even come close to the pure sound of her voice. She cut many songs in only one take. That takes talent and she clearly had lots of it. She is truly missed.

  • She is way too thin here but I know I.ll be told that I am stating the obvious here.

  • I love this song! its so beautiful! im playing this at my wedding!!! =]

  • For me,one of the most greatest voices of the music: Karen;and then talent of John...

It´s a nice surprise hear this version...!!!

    I never saw it.

    Tanks.

  • (thanks, sorry).

  • don't you mean richard

  • Great to hear the most beautiful natural voice ever do something so classical as

    ave maria!

  • beautifully sung by Karen. i love her beautiful voice.

  • QUE DEUS ESTEJA CONTIGO, KAREN

    Requiem aeternam dona eis

  • Karen at her BEST!!! Great song, Great Voice!!!

  • Now this is the best Ave Maria rendition ...Period! Simply the best. All heart and soul!

  • Karen had a most dynamic voice ever heard! She really put her heart and soul into all of her songs..this is especially beautiful.

  • Perfection. I miss you - we all miss you Karen. I guess you were meant to be an angel....

  • your wife,lol

  • Until I hear your wife sing this song (and I'm happy she has a great voice, too!), I will have to say that this is the most beautiful renditions of this song I've heard.

  • yeah right!
