  • Wondrful ! ... except the colour of his shirt ... I would wear red? ...

  • I've seen Bob live around 25 times since the 60's and he's sounding great still.

  • my hero.

  • I saw him the summer after this performance at a show in Texas and his voice was so much worse. It's as if he can still sing decently if he cares to, but sometimes he's like "fuck it."

  • @zimmermanlive I love Dylan, but I'm done seeing any live shows. I've seen him Five times, dating back to 1981. Three of those times it seemed like he was just trying to get through the songs and get out of there, couldn't really even identify some of them till he was halfway through the song. Probably the best performance I saw was at Valparaiso Univ. here at the top of Indiana. Great great show.

  • @ElectraglideMac well I just saw him in summer 2011 and he was motorin'

He was dancing, smiling, engaged, doing his Al Jolson gestures, playing guitar and keyboard etc

Best I have seen him live

  • @muclesmarinara Nice

  • so he CAN still sing a song like a pro :D

  • a song never ages when it bleeds from heart.

  • I wish Dylan and McCartney had performed together

  • His voice sounds great here. Just goes to show he can still sing when he tries.

  • ???? I think he's picking his ass crack!!!

  • does he pick a wedgy out at 1:15?

  • Astonishing. Dylan is a troubadour who follows his own way, and even his cracked voice far outshines the near-lunatics who scream and shout or rap and pout. Thank God for Bob Dylan. This White House performance is also worth noting because Dylan performed for Barack Obama, the only conservative running for President. While GOP Socialists like Newt and Mitt work 24/7 for big business, Obama has our backs. All true conservatives thank the good Lord for Barack Obama.

  • @TheVeryBiggestAl so well said. I'm thankful I got to read your post!!

  • @TheVeryBiggestAl You are kidding, right?

  • Love how he strums then realizes he's playing a different version.

  • Love it!

  • doesn't even sound like he's playing guitar

  • Anyone know when this was?

  • Here is a remarkable and unique human being who truly leads the way.

  • @lionsome well stevie wonder did.

  • @lionsome because, he's a poet and a genius. he was friends with dr.king. because, there's more to life than 'oh baby'. you might learn something.

  • This works brilliantly...wish he'd sing more like this for more of his recent live stuff.

  • what? I don't understand your comment

  • @lionsome U must be too young to remember! The White House is a VERY different place now. A black man running the place - beautiful! Dylan would never have been invited back when he wrote this. Not a sell-out at all - just the opposite - Dylan was doing his job!

  • Anyone know when this was?

  • @forfunk49 ...did a Google research, was Febr. the 9th 2010.

  • love that voice, and his words

  • he was pretty drunk when he did this. I love Bob Dylan, but he's a pretty shitty performer.

  • @SuperEbony5 It was a great performance!

  • @SuperEbony5 I saw Dylan live about 5 years ago. He could care less about how he's perceived as a performer. He didn't say a word to the audience through the entire performance. Just went through all of his songs and no one expected any different.

  • @SuperEbony5 i've always thought he performed in public, because he has to. he'd rather write and record stuff. it never has seemed that he's comfortable out in front of people.

  • @tranurse Not true. Dylan is an old "Road Warrior". He has never stopped touring! He doesn't get the publicity that the "big name" acts do; 'cuz he doesn't do $200.00 per seat "extravaganzas"; with lazers and moving stages and "a cast of thousands". Just does it the old fashioned way. Smaller venues; just walks out there and plays and makes a lotta Noise and "let's it all hang out". Pushing 75, he probably still tours 3 to 6 months a year. "A band that doesn't play live is only 1/2 a band".

  • To perform with this small acoustic arrangement at a place like this shows what a brave man he is! He deserves our deep respect. - I don`t care what people say about his voice. It is still touching my heart and I will always love it! A very moving performance. Beautiful.

  • Ladies and gentlemen..Mr. Bob Dylan

  • Now who says the man cant sing? That badass growl he does on purpose!

  • a message to those who were there: You can't complain about anything anymore for the rest of your lives,

  • wish he'd perform like this more. Lose the blues rock band that we've been seeing for the last 20 years, and do more acoustic material. THis is an amazing performance. The President said that Dylan didn't participate in any of the pre show rehearsals or the dinner, they had no interaction except a small handshake and a smile at the end of the performance. Then dylan walked out and didn't look back. Dylan is Dylan no matter who you are

  • @lionsome So you like songs with no substance? If you don't like it that's fine, no one put a gun to your head and made you listen to this music. And at least learn to call a song what it is...listen to the beat...not country

  • @lionsome I know right????? I hate his voice, its so shrill. And where are all the lights and farts, I'm confuzed!!!!

  • @lionsome -- Ignorant comment, you know nothing about music

  • Did you know its the same Guitar I used when I sang for King when He gave his I have A Dream speech all them years ago way back in 1963"... Good to see you Joan!

  • @bobbyd400 holy smokes!!!!!!! thank you for this, 'blood on the tracks', and so many other songs/albums.

  • THANK YOU BOB

  • gee an enlightened president.. and he even supports the people who started on Wall Street, and now inspired 7 continents ALL to stand up. If you can help get out of the way. (Please show up for even a few minutes.. we all do count, and not the 400 who bought this nation so long ago)

  • Sad to see him like this??? I'm sad too, for not having seen him like this ...

This is simple and reduced to the bones. Great performance!

  • This isn't about Bob Dylan. It IS about Barak Obama; an odd man of great talent and taste. A man who could hear the truth but can't seem ever to speak it. A man whose heart is in the right place but is ever run-over by his own ambition. The son of an amazing woman who never recovered from the loss of his father.

  • People always say that Dylan hasn't got it anymore because he chooses mainly to scream these heavy songs from the 70s...but if he simply played some of his older and acoustic songs, folks would know he still absolutely has it.

  • Wonderful. A song that affected the whole world and no doubt Bob Dylan himself. So glad he sang it at the White House.

  • yes, too sad to see like this. The Times They Are A-Changin

  • Beautiful.

  • Beautiful

  • Definately should record a album in this style

  • i would love to see dylan recording an album with this kind of arrangements, acoustic and simple, no circus organ, no big band sound, just his deep voice, tony on bass and a couple of acoustic guitars.. but im just being a spoiled kid, we are just lucky to have him alive and still rocking

  • He did have a solid folk voice once but he was a dream lyricist and beyond the coolest of the cool cats.

  • When was this?

  • Poor guys lost his voice...

Still great though. He seems to be warning them of something?

  • Bob is and will always be a hero to me. It was he who instilled in me the need to write and play and perform. I love that he still inspires me after fifty years of listening.

  • If all he did was come out on stage and stand there I would still be in awe, no lyrics ever written are as poetic and untimely as Bob Dylans. And just think we have a president that agrees- wow.

  • The battle outside is still raging!!

  • It is obvious he is warning the White House.

  • the date today is 9/27/11... if the times are a changing, we better get busy!

  • He doesn't need his voice, he's got his poetry and music, that's why he's a legend. Not because his voice was strong at a time (sometimes it still is, he has his moments...)

  • @dablueman21

At this point his voice is ravaged beyond repair, sadly, but at his best Bob Dylan had one the greatest voices in popular music.

  • @Rossonero072213 That would be the 60's-70's. Mostly 60's because it was unique, and 70's because it was actually a good voice. in the later 80's the rasp starts...

  • Very nice performance! Better estimate this one!

  • Masters of War would have been more apropos

  • @wallyszabo I agree there seem to be more appropriate songs for the specific audience's ears.

  • @1GoodRiddance the appropriate song for bob dylan is and always has been whatever he feels like singing at the time

  • @MrPernell27 Maybe you are right.

  • 

  • "So thank you for writing the best songs,

Thank you for righting a few wrongs

You're a savage gift on a wayward bus,

But you stepped down and you sang to us" -- J. Baez

  • Now if D's PEOPLE would allow THE PEOPLE to see this .. not take it down, FOR A CHANGE

  • I think it's beautiful. Poignant. Relevant.

  • Dylan fans a must see-- Chris Holly performs "The Times They are a-Changin" for MICHELE BACHMANN Town Hall Meeting in SC.

  • Боб Дилан Мастер !

  • the other thing is that this is Not the song from the 60s, the excitement and heraliding of a revolution by a young generation is replaced by a song more fit for a farewell. This shift in tone, I am sure was intentional by the master.

  • Bobby knows what he is doing. Obama gave Dylan a medal of freedom, Bobby was a no show. Bob Dylan always looks at politicians with distrust. He has O's number, the song choice here is more prophetic than anything.

  • @Leona10037 However, no other president has had, or would have Dylan at the white House to sing this song, and comprehend it. And yes, I noted the shift in tone, what it means is for anyone to interpret (I call it 'age') nevertheless the song is there and speaks for itself.

  • @Leona10037

i voted for "o"...had no other choice once they kicked hillary to the curb...

"o" expanded the wars and look up how much the pentagon and military have been given since obamas in office...you'd think cheney and bush were still in the white house

"o" is a rubber stamp like condie rice....a fraud..

  • @ChiroQuacker Yeah, O one huge heart break. Who vould havr imagined that the only change would be more the same except bigger, harder and more costly. SAdly, we are made to nelieve we dont have a choice.

  • Sucks that this was wasted on Obama.

  • why is there a band with him? god damn it

  • Couragous song choice.

  • This is not a sellout... I just think Bob Dylan lives for his songs, and he agrees to perform them in front of any crowd... It's good to hear him play guitar again!

  • This is not a sellout... I just think Bob Dylan lives for his songs, and he agrees to perform them in front of any crowd... It's good to hear him play guitar again!

  • Beautifully said. I agree.

  • Did he say the president will later be passed @ 2.54?

  • @liamanewton as the PRESENT now will later be PAST

  • @liamanewton "the present will later be passed"

  • his the daddy

  • look at what he did, he rose fifty years ago as the dark poet, screaming against government, protesting the law...and now he performs one of his most powerful ballads in front of the president..that shows who the figureheads in America are, Bob is the real leader..

  • @poeticreject or perhaps he was invited as a guest performer to celebrate the civil rights movement!

  • His music will last for hundreds of years.

  • 123 time is magical. Bod Dylan has A FINE FORMULA in arranging.

  • I came across this clip by pure accident and cannot believe that Dylan is actually performing at the Shite House... sorry I'll read that again.. White House.Doesn't that negate everything you once stood for, Robert? Ah, well... I suppose old men with nothing left to live for accept dubious honors... in Bob's case even to try and sing the fucking song in tune.

  • @zthetha Aw, get over yourself

  • @zthetha Way to miss the point completely, asshole.

  • @Dfox222 Your comment arrived within minutes of poeticreject's so I listened again - see my reply.

  • @zthetha

take into balance the song he is singing, take notice to the song change, listen to the lyrics, see if it comes to you what he is doing. its sheer genius

  • @poeticreject Hmm... perhaps I should have listened to the whole thing before commenting... it was a bad day and this just looked like another sell out.... now I hear the subtle changes - surprised the WH didn't censor them - it is another instance of Bob's genius... "the order IS rapidly fading..."

  • @zthetha

Bob Dylan sells out to nobody. he's just like fate, nothing he does is trivial or by accident

  • THANKS for being so much time with us Bob! Thank you so much

  • Thanks for the past 48 years Dylan... we are all getting older but its been a real ride!

  • Well done Bob!!Great artist!!

  • Age takes its toll on all of us. But Bob still has the charisma of a great poet, songwriter, and performer. A true legend in his own time.

  • Looking forward to seeing Bob inDublin in October.

  • his voice is so bad... but i really wanna go see him in concert, is $60 worth it?

  • @MetrazolElectricity It's BOB FREAKING DYLAN! Is it worth it? are you kidding me? I would give like my left arm just to see him just one time lol jk but my answer is Yes it is worth it. Besides even if you don't like it atleast you can say you have seen Bob Dylan perform live unlike a lot of other people. I'm sure you would have a good time.

  • @ELIMINATORRRR Thanks man! Yeah, I think I'll go for it. I used to be a big bob dylan fan but i've heard his concerts these days aren't exactly newport 65 cool, even though paul mccartney still wows every venue . But yeah, i'm pretty sure i'll go

  • @MetrazolElectricity No problem and i'm glad to help you out. The fact that he isn't as good as he use to be shouldn't put you off going because we either get better as we get older or we get worse and as far as Bob Dylan goes, i think his voice isn't what it use to be but that isn't really suprising to be honest and i would rather see one of his concerts than a Justin Bieber concert lol :D.

  • @ELIMINATORRRR his lyrics are still spot on... I loved beyond here lies nothing album

  • @MetrazolElectricity I'm a new fan of Bob Dylan sincer i'm a big fan of The Beatles and they always said the really liked Bob Dylan's music so i have decided to start listening to his music and i must say i really enjoy it and i've over heard like 3 or 4 songs. I still don't think that 'Like A Rolling Stone' is better than 'Imagine' but i'm a huge Lennon fan so i guess i'm really biased lol :D.

  • the way he sings now... singing this song... in the white house... did the politicians there really understand him? it´s just like a man who crossed deserts and oceans

of ideas that still has things to say... in a different way... when will they ever learn?

  • Wonderful to see Dylan perform one of the major songs of the 20th century at the White House.

  • I think this is the best he's sounded doing this song. His voice is so rich and emotive. The raspiness really adds to the effect and he hits the notes about as close as he should without sounding ever sounding weak or innefectual. Thanks for the upload!

  • His voice is slightly worse? But he still sounds unique, and considering he is about 70 here, this is pretty cool. I see he's using guitar too. Usually plays keyboard these days I thought. Go Bob!

  • He sounds like crap. I'm sorry, I love him, but damn...

  • @meloearth well fuck you douchebag. You sound like shit and you're younger than him. Besides he isnt know for being a pretty singer and he still isnt a pretty singer so,nothing has changed. He sings in what music people call a bluesy growl just like Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf but you wouldnt know about that would you?

  • @muclesmarinara LOL! You need to smoke a joint. Sorry, this is no Muddy Waters, and the only howlin' here is that of a dying animal.. LOL

  • @meloearth First of all,Bob Dylan is far better than Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf. Your criticism is ignorant to music and without depth or reason. You have a lazy argument. Your criticism is lazy. If you can back up your ludicrous statement with actual valid points I would repent but until then, you are just a total jerk off! A big, steaming bag of ass...that is what you are unless you can say something important and valid.

  • @muclesmarinara LOL! You play the world's smallest violin.

  • @meloearth I'm glad you think this if funny numb nuts. You still haven't backed up your bullshit yet. Please do so ya prick! Ya son of a bitch bastard!

  • @muclesmarinara Lovely music! LMAO

  • @meloearth oh you backed down. OK kiddo I'll score that a TKO win for me.I wish you could have redeemed yourself though because I'm sure you are a nice person but until then, you're a worthless prick. Much Love, peace!

  • @muclesmarinara "Backed down"? I think you have issues. LOL You can keep on rolling, and pls take your fake peace and love with you on your way out.

  • @meloearth There you go! I felt the sting in those words. Sort of puts a smile on my face,ya know? You dumb shit. Bob Dylan:oldest person to win Grammy for album of the year, oldest person to have a top ten album, plays 100 shows a year since 1988,500 songs written, better songs than anyone in history,Bob can do no wrong. We will see how good you sound when you're 70!

  • @muclesmarinara You still flexin' the hate muscles, bud? You're half entertaining. Keep going. Amuse me.

  • @meloearth I don't hate you at all.Honestly,I really don't hate you but I strongly disliked your criticism of Bob Dylan's performance especially because it is almost "out of thin air" with no reasoning.

    Ass Head!

  • @muclesmarinara That performance sucks. LOL I watched it once, in your honor, just to confirm that , yes, it sucks. You too. YOu got a lot of time on your hands. You like the attention you are getting from me? It will end soon, so enjoy.

  • @meloearth It sucks why? Because it doesn't sound pretty? Not everything in life IS pretty. He doesn't sound like justin bieber,so what. That voice is a voice that belongs to a legend,a man who has been though a lot of stuff and come out still standing. He growls the words. You can feel emotion in his singing. Tom Waits growls and has been successful. Metal Singers don't sing pretty and nobody gives them any shit,so why Bob?

And I can reply quickly because I have a LAPTOP silly guy! Douche Bag!

  • @muclesmarinara Even you have to admit that Tom Waits' growl is better than this. Even Bieber may beat this. The only emotion I feel with this one is the desire to run, so I guess he makes me want to exercise. And, ladies and gentlemen, the next name calling is [drum roll]...You are pretty silly. Your ID kinda tells what I'm dealing with, doesn't it. :D

  • Awesome!!

  • it's in the fashion of 'if you ain't got the do-re-mi' with Ry Cooder and Van Dyke Parks

    even more sublime

  • startling

  • I can't believe I'm going to see this man live in about a month. I can't wait. I'm a teen and I've been a big fan of Mr. Dylan for three years now. He hadn't come to my area of the US in years and I'm so glad he's coming back. This man is the greatest musician and artist who has ever lived.

  • Well, here he is, Bobby singin' the times they are a-changin' right in the belly of the beast.. feet away from the great deceiving Obama who claims he likes Bobby. I'd like to see one of the boo birds strap on his set of wings. All these rumors about Bob flaking out by compromising his work for people and selling his soul to the devil should be dropped. Bob is well awake n' aware of the coming days.. the wise atta know this by Bob's soul in certain songs.. He's made his peace with God long ago.

  • @chesterwhilbury do you mean the china bullshit that was started by those newspaper writers?

  • @muclesmarinara yeah, that china nonsense and all the conspiracies that surround the guy. People are so foolish. Even the fools like Bob, but for all the wrong reasons. Bob's quite the cat.

  • @chesterwhilbury that was started by a writer who wanted attention and wanted to have a scoop. All lies just like in the 60's and 70's etc. They been trying to get Bob since he was first around.

  • @chesterwhilbury !00% right, Chester! Fans know he gave his soul to the Lord not the devil. I truly believe that is why he is still around & at 70 his voice is getting much better. ..much better than he sounds here. Dylan's his own man! He really tore into the NY news reporter on his web site for saying he compromised songs. He hardly ever makes personal comments. Maybe Dylan sang TTTAC in this tempo so the older statesman could really listen to the words making them think for a change!

  • hes a legend....simply a legend......im goin to see him the 16th of june in ireland,Cork

  • i wish he always performed live like this whenever ive seen him you cant even tell what song he's singing cos he uses the same vocal pattern for every song

  • Who could have imagined in the early '60s that this song would be sung in the White House, but not as a relic of nostalgia but with the same meaning and intention now as it had then.

  • @emintey In St. Paul at the Northrup Theater, right after the news that Obama was elected, he said, "Now, I Believe things are really gonna change" and started playing this song.

  • I read the yahoo news article today that Obamas 'BEAST' was crippled

what BEAST are they talkin' about?

  • @curtainedgloom his obscene car in Ireland

  • On the mountain of transfiguration appeared ELIJAH and MOSES with JESUS. Elijah and Moses never died but were transfigured...they are the 2 candlesticks (they shine their light and witness in front of the whole world in the last days......it's in Revelations 11. Its important to know that they were just "men"..like you and me.

I believe them to be ARNOLD MURRAY of the SHEPHERDSCHAPEL and BOB DYLAN....in the spirit of Moses and Elijah

  • Elijah the prophet is one of the two Witnesses that prophecies in 'sackloth' (which is a greek word that means 'mohair' suit)....the book of "revelations" (to make known, 2 reveal) says that the two witnesses will be given power in the last days. This word power means "influence' "fame' "in front of an audience" and "poet"

  • such a legend

  • luv it, im goin to see him the 16th of june...cant wait

  • he actually doesnt sound like shit here

  • @wweecwcollin oh,fuck off...

  • @Pmitsou123 no i mean now his voice isnt so good. but back in the day his voice was good

  • i bet the night before this he was like ah dang now i gotta go learn that song i wrote 40 years ago

  • saw him in auckland new zealand three nights ago. if he'd done just a five minute performance, just one song with the feeling and beauty of this performance then walked off the stage - i would've felt my 150 bucks were well spent.

instead he put us through 2 hours of cynical musical sleepwalking.

it's as sad as watching jake la motta performing shakespeare in a seedy new jersey nightclub. nuh - it's sadder. because la motta didn't write the words he was destroying.

  • wow. i bet he never expected he'd be singing in the white house when he wrote this. that's not to say we've evolved. it just happens to be good right now.

  • Jesus, what year was this?

  • @plunkza THIS year

  • gramps wrote some awesome ditties and aint they pretty!?!! sung by him even now... Sydney Apr 27, 2011- sooo excited!

  • When was this? He sounds great!!

  • The most revolutionary song of all time and this proves it.

  • great version bob

  • I've seen Dylan w/ his rocking Cowboy Band many a times. I'd love to hear a whole concert w/ this line up, Piano, up-right bass, and Bob on acoustic.

  • I've seen Dylan w/ his rocking Cowboy Band many a times. I'd love to hear a whole concert w/ this line up, Piano, up-right bass, and Bob on acoustic.

  • A True Master Song of Life, and for he who doesn't understand,

don t worry, you are not alive...

    ..you never will

  • I like that, Don't criticize what you don't undersand !

  • No doubt about it.. The whole song - but particularly the stanza beginning with "Come Senators and Congressmen please heed the call ... resonates as much today, if not, more today than when Dylan wrote it in the early 60's. Where is the Dylan speaking to the youth of today to inspire them like Dylan spoke to children of the 60's like I?
