everyone is bitching about those wings down so low. now, those wings saved that dumb ass from forgetting to hide his wheel. if those wings were up so high, plane would of flipped and someone could of died drowning.
another russian piece of engineer.. not so sure about a lower wing seaplane... So russos mesmo.. Gracas a deus que vcs nao morreram. O aviao esta a venda na ebay
Look at the prelim ntsb report. Right gear partially extended. As the plane settled in the water, the wheel dragged, swerving right and caused the left wing to dip in. The manufacturer says the wing is designed to displace, meaning its part of the buoyancy design. Cool looking but I don't like it.
I don't know much about planes, but a laymen can see its a impratical design, look how low the wings are in proximity to the water it barely give room for pilot error, in other words to re-correct.
@MrAnthonyfilm if those wings were not down by the water, plane would of flipped and someone could of drowned and die in that accident. Also, if those wings were higher, plane would have to be bigger and cost more.
@MrAnthonyfilm Try again "layman". The wings are low to the water because they are mounted mid-fuselage with the wing roots designed to be sponsons (floats) for the aircraft.
This aircraft is very tough and very stable in the water. Everyone here expects the wings to be dainty extra bits hanging off the fuselage, but they are part of the floatation and stability design.
Russians know how to make a sea-plane ; however, this is not a sea-plane. It may be some kind of Lake-Plane or prof 0f product design . Note how deep in the water it rest. It looks like a beautiful aircraft, but not very practical. Lucky no one drowned. P. S. ... the Russian who sold this thing is one happy 'DUDE'.
@007wingman Wrong. The plane is a mid-wing design with the wing roots designed to act as sponsons. It's supposed to float deep in the water, that's what makes it stable.
Landing gear down my butt...he dipped a wing. Look at the main gear placement and compare it to the damaged area on the wing. Besides, look at the footage from inside the aircraft, he has clearly landed and been on the water for several seconds or more before the accident takes place. I am hoping the account was that officials mis-informed opinion of what happened and not the pilot trying to save face or cover his butt. Seaplane with a low wing...bad idea.
@beachhouse01 ass of the plane sits 1st, then front where the wheel was out. he should of hidden the wheel before landing and if wings were higher, plane would of flipped and someone could of drowned.

The all could be dead if the wings were higher like at grumman goose. Low wings makes in stable during landing

@gbonventi It's not lower-wing, it's mid-wing, and it works beautifully.

I am so sad to see this happen to such a cool plane. In 2002 I saw this plane in Gelendzhik, Russia.
