I really don't understand what's happened with the gundam series. Every series after gundam wing just went downhill in terms of complexity, character, maturity, and creativity. I guess epicness like Gundam Wing comes only once in a while.
@BluBloodDynasty 00 doesn't fit that description? Imo 00 is a better series than Wing in terms of story, character development, creativity, and definitely maturity. When I watch Wing, I can't get over just how goddamn corny it is and wonder why I liked it when I was younger. Kinda like how I feel about DBZ now. It's like Wing has to put an emphasis on every single thing that goes on. I still love it though, but 00 gets my vote for the best series.
Nice scene. But why does it have completely different music? Years ago when I watched it on Toonami and later my VHS copy the song that was playing in this scene was "White Reflection" by Two-Mix. What gives?
@FlyingVGoddess This version is the movie version, and the version with the "White Reflection" song is the 3 part ova version that was shown on cartoon network. Both are on the DVD.
Just FYI, SEED is getting a 16:9 HD-Blu-Ray-Version as well. It will be released in Japan in spring 2012.
But since it is already a digitally produced show and certainly not a Cel-animated series like Wing, it won't nearly look as half as good as the 8 year older Wing.
It'll be aired on television later this month too. But from what people have seen, the transition to HD is not good at all. Lots of bad camera cuts to produce fake widescreen.
@clancy688 Am I reading this right? Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed are going HD? That would defiantly be a must buy for me. For Christmas I bought my brother the series... I still wanted to get a copy for myself. It was the first anime I really came to love a lot. Especially when it was on Toonami the Midnight Run. To get a HD version would be plane awesome. BTW Zech was the best character. lol
Does anyone know a good place to watch the latest Gundam Unicorn episodes in eng dub or sub, that's great quality and a safe site? And just out of curiosity are they selling them yet? (I'm not going to by them, I don't do that anymore, just curious.)
@LogicalMan6 Trowa shifts to one extreme, when Heero tells him to act on his emotions. However, he develops an equilibrium when he was about to self destruct (just like heero). Fortunately Catherine saves him, and he learns that one cannot solely act on emotion; they need to consider other variables, such as family and friends.
I hope I convinced you that Gundam wing is far more sophisticated than Gundam SEED and SD.
If you have PSN or Xbox live you can rent and view them online (zune player for Xbox live) for about $4. Episodes 1 and 2 are out on Blue Ray, but they are pricey ($35-$50 pending on where you get them from), and I don't think they are out for DVD. Episode 3 is available for rent at the moment and will go on sale in December.
Also if you just type in Watch Gundam Unicorn episode # I'm sure you will find a site that shows it though the quality will not be top notch. If you want great quality then you will just have to rent, buy, or torrent/download.
@death457 What are kidding me? GSD is hardly "better" than this series. GSD is superior in machines only, and at least the story makes since. It's shit but makes since. And how can you bad mouth gun dam 00? That's one of, and arguably the best, gundam series so far. To be fair though I did not like my childhood actually.
@LogicalMan6 "The only character who develops is Heero"
No, a lot of characters develop. In fact, this Gundam series has far more character developments than other series, such as SEED and Destiny. For example, Trowa has 1 minor and 1 major epiphany; they are, respectively, when Heero tells him to "act on his emotions" and when Catherine teaches him to consider everyone else around him. The only "perfect", static Gundam pilot is Duo. Initially, he isn't as extreme as the other pilots.
@LogicalMan6 And I also want to add to my previous comment, about how Duo is the only static character. Initially, the philosophy of each pilot is towards one extreme; but throughout the story, they develop an equilibrium between the extremes of their philosphy. In the end, all the gundam pilots lie somewhere in between the spectrum. For example, Heero is emotionless war machine, but ends up displaying emotion near the end.
1. The story makes no sense. First they're against OZ, then working for OZ, then working for someone else against someone else. For a supposedly "idealistic" group of pilots these guys can't seem to make up their minds. As opposed to every other gundam series.
2. The mobile suits in this, except the gundams, are the worst of the franchise.
3. The characters are stale and uninteresting.
4. The whole premise is dull and in no way grabs your attention.
@LogicalMan6 You have to understand that its target audience is a lot more mature. The story is a lot more sophisticated than most of the Gundam series.
@lIIustration No it isn't. It's just messed up. Almost every other series makes sense. This one can't make up it's mind an]bout the characters or their goals. The Gpilots keep changing teams, Relina wants peace but doesn't bother with any method other than throwing weapons away which she repeats like a damn mantra, and Zechs goes from vengeful loner to mass murderer. This series isn't mature in target, it's childish in fact.
@LogicalMan6 First of all, I agree with you that it isn't the most sophisticated series out there. However, if you compare it to SEED and SD, it's definitely more sophisticated. Have you ever heard of the term existentialism? Well, this series has plenty of it if you analyze it. But it certainly isn't as deep as Zeta and the original gundam.
@lIIustration Seriously... Existentialism? That's your big defense? That there's a whole other layer of ideas and morality issues going on behind the scenes of a flimsy story and stale characters who can't stay in their roles? Is that what your saying?
@LogicalMan6 Look, I'm just refuting your statement that Gundam wing's the worst amongst the series. If you're going to insist that SD and SEED are better, I'm not even going to argue.
@lIIustration I'm only saying they are better in mobile suits, and a clear storyline. Other than that they suck. I mean SD and SEED have to be the sappiest of the franchise.
@LogicalMan6 That's absolutely true from an action/generic point of view. However, if you're a person like me, who enjoys character development, then Gundam Wing isn't that bad of a story. It's true that a lot of the animations are recycled, but when you notice how the characters change from one extreme to another, the story is very enjoyable.
@lIIustration But they don't change. They just switch sides and never explain why, they just seem to go along with the motions. Plus it shows the weakness of the writers who can't seem to think of anything other than switches to keep the story going. The only character who develops is Heero, everyone else stays the same with a minor realization, or insight that goes almost completely unnoticed. Or just crazy for an episode or two. Whole thing is lame and lazy.
@lIIustration The importance isn't on action alone it's what else the series brings with it. This series lacks characters you can empathize or sympathize with, plot lines that seem slapped together with no real thought, mobile suits that are neither unique nor engaging in function or appearance, (barring the gundams) and a world that is on the one hand very advanced and archaic but without any taste or wit. The whole thing is dull and unappealing, to all. Intellectuals, action fans, etc.
@LogicalMan6 "The whole thing is dull and unappealing, to all."
Nope, not to all.
"But they don't change. They just switch sides and never explain why, they just seem to go along with the motions."
"They just switch sides and never explain why..."
First of all, that statement contradicts itself. Switching sides is an example of change. Secondly, they do, in fact, explain why they switch sides. The first to switch was Trowa. He wanted to infiltrate OZ and sabotage it from the inside.
@lIIustration Switching sides is not change of character it is the same character doing something else. And doesn't explain why Heero and Trowa later go back to OZ to test out those two mobile suits made by the guys who developed the gundams. Or why Quatre goes all mass murderin and tries to destroy that colony. Or the point of Trowa losing his memory.
@LogicalMan6 Listen I don't know whats happening but I can't see your last four comments on this page. I keep clicking show all comments but it only shows me page one. So I have no idea what the problem is.
@LogicalMan6 And all I'm saying is that SD and SEED are most minutely "better" due to the mobile suits. They're the worst right after or alongside this series. I do like 00, UG, the original, Char's Counterattack, Zeta, 0083. G Fighter and 0080 are ok. Not great but ok.
@LogicalMan6 Trowa's amnesia is as poor and lazy a plot device as it's ever been. Not just because it's been so overly cliched by soap operas. Which this series almost qualifies as.
I was but some kid when i saw this and its still just as epic, no, now its LEGENDARY!

I'm sorry, but your statement is unclear. You need to provide some sort of example to back this claim up.
" And doesn't explain why Heero and Trowa later go back to OZ to test out those two mobile suits"
As I said before, the purpose was infiltration. It was mentioned in the anime.
lIIustration 3 months ago
@LogicalMan6 "Or why Quatre goes all mass murderin and tries to destroy that colony."
Please read my previous comment about philosophical equilibria. It was clearly mentioned in the anime too.

It's called amnesia, due to physical trauma to the brain.
