I really don't understand what's happened with the gundam series. Every series after gundam wing just went downhill in terms of complexity, character, maturity, and creativity. I guess epicness like Gundam Wing comes only once in a while.

@BluBloodDynasty 00 doesn't fit that description? Imo 00 is a better series than Wing in terms of story, character development, creativity, and definitely maturity. When I watch Wing, I can't get over just how goddamn corny it is and wonder why I liked it when I was younger. Kinda like how I feel about DBZ now. It's like Wing has to put an emphasis on every single thing that goes on. I still love it though, but 00 gets my vote for the best series.

Nice scene. But why does it have completely different music? Years ago when I watched it on Toonami and later my VHS copy the song that was playing in this scene was "White Reflection" by Two-Mix. What gives?

@FlyingVGoddess This version is the movie version, and the version with the "White Reflection" song is the 3 part ova version that was shown on cartoon network. Both are on the DVD.

Regarding Gundam SEED:

Just FYI, SEED is getting a 16:9 HD-Blu-Ray-Version as well. It will be released in Japan in spring 2012.

But since it is already a digitally produced show and certainly not a Cel-animated series like Wing, it won't nearly look as half as good as the 8 year older Wing.

It'll be aired on television later this month too. But from what people have seen, the transition to HD is not good at all. Lots of bad camera cuts to produce fake widescreen.

I still wanted to get a copy for myself. It was the first anime I really came to love a lot. Especially when it was on Toonami the Midnight Run. To get a HD version would be plane awesome. BTW Zech was the best character. lol

@LogicalMan6 Trowa shifts to one extreme, when Heero tells him to act on his emotions. However, he develops an equilibrium when he was about to self destruct (just like heero). Fortunately Catherine saves him, and he learns that one cannot solely act on emotion; they need to consider other variables, such as family and friends.

I hope I convinced you that Gundam wing is far more sophisticated than Gundam SEED and SD.

Episodes 1 and 2 are out on Blue Ray, but they are pricey ($35-$50 pending on where you get them from), and I don't think they are out for DVD. Episode 3 is available for rent at the moment and will go on sale in December.

No, a lot of characters develop. In fact, this Gundam series has far more character developments than other series, such as SEED and Destiny. For example, Trowa has 1 minor and 1 major epiphany; they are, respectively, when Heero tells him to "act on his emotions" and when Catherine teaches him to consider everyone else around him. The only "perfect", static Gundam pilot is Duo. Initially, he isn't as extreme as the other pilots.

Initially, the philosophy of each pilot is towards one extreme; but throughout the story, they develop an equilibrium between the extremes of their philosphy. In the end, all the gundam pilots lie somewhere in between the spectrum. For example, Heero is emotionless war machine, but ends up displaying emotion near the end.

1. The story makes no sense. First they're against OZ, then working for OZ, then working for someone else against someone else. For a supposedly "idealistic" group of pilots these guys can't seem to make up their minds. As opposed to every other gundam series.

2. The mobile suits in this, except the gundams, are the worst of the franchise.

3. The characters are stale and uninteresting.

4. The whole premise is dull and in no way grabs your attention.

The Gpilots keep changing teams, Relina wants peace but doesn't bother with any method other than throwing weapons away which she repeats like a damn mantra, and Zechs goes from vengeful loner to mass murderer. This series isn't mature in target, it's childish in fact.

It's true that a lot of the animations are recycled, but when you notice how the characters change from one extreme to another, the story is very enjoyable.

This series lacks characters you can empathize or sympathize with, plot lines that seem slapped together with no real thought, mobile suits that are neither unique nor engaging in function or appearance, (barring the gundams) and a world that is on the one hand very advanced and archaic but without any taste or wit. The whole thing is dull and unappealing, to all. Intellectuals, action fans, etc.

First of all, that statement contradicts itself. Switching sides is an example of change. Secondly, they do, in fact, explain why they switch sides. The first to switch was Trowa. He wanted to infiltrate OZ and sabotage it from the inside.
