I can't exactly say what Bush altered to make it unique, but you can listen to their music minus the vocals and tell it's by a different band just from the instrumentals themselves. With Seether, Puddle of Mudd, and every other post-grunge band, they refined the sound and took out most of the good things about grunge keeping the vocals and altering the lyrics from messages of angst to mostly love songs.
