The Flamingoes are my absolute favorite group and this is their greatest ballad! Listening to this as I cruised Findlay in 1959 in my '54 Chevy with a special girl was as good as it could get!
One of my 3 favorit Flamingos numbers. The others being Ladder of Love and the ever beautiful I'll Be Home. I love all there very early Chance/Checker records.

It's 3:30 am,I'm 73 years old,and I'm listening to these beautifull doo wop songs, and I actually haves tears in my eyes by the sheer power of this beautifull music and the talent required to create it.To have been a teenager during this era, slow dancing with some pretty young girl was truly magical. It makes me want to go wake up my loveyl wife of 52 years and start dancing.LOL.
@bongo7654 What a lucky couple you are! I'm a 72 year old widow, still swaying to the music. Pity the people who can't hear what we hear in this. My mother was a Southern woman who thought a classic was Ernest Tubb or Hank Williams, and hated when I listened to such as this or Four Freshmen, who were always "singing out of tune" to her. I like Hank and Ernest and Eddy and all those homestyle artists, but oh how I love these sweet sounds. Been listening to a lot of Jay Black lately.

AwwwwwwHmmmm, those Good Ole Dayz are Gone, Gone, Gone !
Nate Nelson was King. We just lost him far too soon. Yes, I agree that today's music (If you can call it music) can't hold a candle to tunes like this. But then again at my age.... I'm now 70 but was a 14 year old in '55. My time, my music. But I too know of a number of 30 years olds and younger who, when exposed to this, find it refreshing and then fall in love with the sound the way we did back those many years ago.
@09mskitty I am 45 years old this year, but have just loved this music since I was a young boy, its just that good. I also love the style, movies and cars of this era. I am a 1950's fanatic, always have been. I was listening to this in high school, and many thought I was a square, but I didn't care. I agree with you...if more young people could be exposed to this they could find out how good it really is.
Thanks for posting.....I love this song, but I must admit " I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU " is my all time favorite. Please be assured your posting efforts are very much appreciated....Thanks again..........Frank
This my favorite heartthrob recording of all time. For me it ranks # 1 or 2 with ' In The Still Of The Night.' Earth Angel is another great classic. I'm 68 and still a kid. From time to time I go back and immerse myself in this stuff.. I loved it all and of course still do. My favorites were the great groups like The Flamingos, The Cadillacs, and a zillion others - both black and white. It's nice to see a new generation digging this stuff. Praise be to YOU TUBE. Hail Hail Rock n roll.
@jaemel1 I do the same thing. I listen to these oldies and go back in time. I have to say I enjoyed my teenage years. We had fun dancing, singing in talent shows with no shooting or fights. I really feel bad for our children of today.
@jaemel1 how great is this song and era of music. it's sad that popular music has gone in the direction it has. but alas we still have youtube. i'm 23 and own about 5 cd's from after 1985.
@s2studlys2 Thanks for the comment Mitch, it is nice to know that there are younger folk out there who still appreciate good singing and beautiful music!
I agree - this is one of the most beautiful, heart wrenching duets ever...I learned it from the great Sha na na records my Dad brought home. thank you for posting this, jaemel1.
Thanks ever so much for this posting. This is my all-time favorite tune, and certainly one of the greatest slow dance songs of all time. Truly, the kind of song that resonates in your conscience when you're thinking about loves of long ago.
I only know the Flamingo's for "I only Have Eyes For You", which I diodn't exacting care for it all that much. I haven't heard it in all these years & don't plan on tuning it in anyday soon. I do however like this one a tad better & it is true if you love each other you should never have to say goodbye to mean it...like in we will reunite. In this song however the message isn't quite clear enough to me as to whether this will really happen in this case...will they really reunite? THX
What a great oldie, love the Flamingo's. It brings back a lot of memories from the good old days. To be young again and so in love, I miss those times so bad. I just want to go back and relive the 60's. Then I would still be with my love who is now gone. My heart is broke, I just don't know what to do. He's with me in thought every day, if only we could go back in time and learn from our mistakes. Hopefully we will be together again. I just feel so sad, thanks for posting good memories.
Try not to be so sad, but instead happy and thankful for the good memories and good times that you had together, for that is a precious thing indeed. God Bless.
@jaemel1 I'm responding to your kind words, I'm very grateful for the special three years we had together. The breakup was my fault and I hurt him so bad, thats why I feel so sad. He is gone from this life but not before I had the chance to tell him how I always felt about him. We both always loved each other and that will never fade away. He said he would be waiting for me on the other side. I hope we do meet again for a second try so we can be together through the next life. Thank you again.
@Fruitloop186 Responding to your message. You are so right love lost is one of the most hurtful things. I can't think of anything more painful. I will always have the oldies to remember all the good times we had together. I just hope there is an ever after so we can be together again. Thanks for caring enough to respond to my comment. Those days were certainly the best.
Just like I remember on the original record as a kid. The "end" label... What a rare find.. Blasted me back thru the past. This piece is timeless. Thank you for sharing jaemel1..... xoxoxoxo
My girlfriend leaves for college in Ohio on Saturday. Im also a traveling musician. Seeing each other doesnt happen often, so this song means a lot. I think we are of the few only who are under 30 yrs old who live in the 50s!
The Flamingo's follow up to their chart topping, "I only have Eyes for You!" that was released in the spring of 1959. Their greatest hits CD is a gem.
Genius and talent never say goodbye. The Flamingos are rare birds who continue to fly since they first took off in the 50's. A song for the heart from the heart. They play it in heaven whenever a lover of doo wop leaves this sweet earth.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA
@larrynealwaxmuseum I miss KOMA a lot. In the late 50's, I could get it nights in Phoenix. Spent a lot of time listening in my room when I didn't have a school activity or date. Then, ironically, my dad was transferred to a small federal boarding school in north central Oklahoma in late 1959. We lived in Ponca City. Couldn't get it at all. Had to listen to WKY. I had to write or call friends or my girlfriend in Phoenix to find out what was going on at KOMA!
I was working at WING radio in Dayton,Ohio in the late 60's. We played the hits BUT once an hour we played an OLDIE. Well I played THIS off a END GREATEST HITS LP. JERRY KAYE our PD was on the phone within seconds giving me hell. "HE SAID THAT WAS NEVER A HIT" and I didn't have it marked for "airplay" Next day the ratings came in and I had a 23 share of the audience. Everyone was celebrating and I told Jerry Kaye " I guess I'll be playing the oldies I pick out,,RIGHT?
This was popular when I was in high school. I remember going home from a basketball game on the bus and listening to it. I looked for it several years ago and couldn't find it at all. Recently, it started showing up on some online sites. YES!!!

@THEMOJOMANsince1959 you very pointedly encapsulated why i never liked oldies radio all that much. other genres do the same thing. the number of songs that were hits or were at least popular or memorable verses the ones they actually play is startline.
@Putaspellonyou Well they have to pick out the ones they think will "keep the audience". That's why I can't stand the R&R Hall of Fame. There are so many songs and artists that say had ONE BIG HIT but even today we listen too and sign those songs and they're ignored by that CLICK that runs the R&R HOF,,which is mainly Rolling Stone Magazine. I subsribe to it even though I know it's a LIBERAL rag. TheMojoMan*com my webpage
@THEMOJOMANsince1959 i know exactly what you mean by keeping the audience. but that supposes people don't want to rediscover things they forgot or hear things they missed they first time around. hits in the 1950s were often very "regional." maybe its just how im wired, but i want a radio station that takes me on a journey; sadly, most of the time it feels just like a cul de sac.

At our weekly Friday nite high school dance they always played an appropriate song for the "last dance." This great song was used during the time it was popular.
Other songs used included Jesse Belvin's "Goodnight My Love" and the long-lost goodie by the Rosebuds "Kiss Me Goodnight."

@THEMOJOMANsince1959 well, rock and roll was the creation of a liberal america, so there you go...

@Putaspellonyou Are you meaning that in a good way or bad way.

Beautiful music just as good as Trio music, to take a serenata to my babe under the moonlight.

At our weekly Friday nite high school dance they always played an appropriate song for the "last dance." This great song was used during the time it was popular.
Other songs used included Jesse Belvin's "Goodnight My Love" and the long-lost goodie by the Rosebuds "Kiss Me Goodnight."
