this game is out of this world. i have played it thousends of times since i got it. it might not be as original as the first 4 games but it is very appealing and it is very clever. the therapy sessions change the story on depending what your answers to the questions. i love the creature chases cos it makes it more suspensful. i give it 9/10.
I just played this it was fun and terrifying they put so much effort into it, it was so good it was one of the best silent hills id even compare it to the original series from start to finsh it was great. people really need to not be so picky

Shattered Memories was a wonderful game. Silent Hill and it's fans are really picky, but that's mostly because Silent Hill is different to many people. Some people admire it for it's horrible worlds and things like that. Others admire it for other reasons. To me, Silent Hill is a character study. While I felt like the otherworlds in Shattered Memories were a bit weaker than previous incarnations, to me as a character study and it's symbolism makes it a winner in my book.
From the footage I've seen of the game it almost looks too literal, which tends to be what American game designers, and even show writers, feel the need to do. (I dunno.....maybe they feel their audience is stupid.) What gave the original game its sense of horror and dread is the fact that it wasn't literal and you had no idea what was going on for a lot of the game. There was a purposeful disconnect between the characters and the player, which also made it creepy.

Choices effecting games is anything but new. AND SILENT HILL DID NOT PARALLEL TO the psyches of the protagonists until after the first game (ALESYA). Know your shit or beat it.
Yeah, silent hill was never about the fighting and they seemed to try and make it so in Home Coming, and it totaly sucked -_-". I'm glad they got rid of it too, the work on the atmosphere is what made Silent Hill different from other horror games ^^.
that right at least they are trying something different and dont go for the same road than the resident evil games (what a shame such a great horror franchise and now is another shooter more)
Agreed, the sense of isolation was great though. Hearing that ambulance after Cynthia's death was chilling. I've played them all, too. It was a pain in the arse to find the first one, though.
Compared to Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories looks average. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is supposed to be 2010. Silent Hill 2 came out in 2001. In the space of 9 years, Silent Hill should have progressed, instead it's gone backwards. Silent Hill Psone looks more impressive, and that came out in 1999. Who ever suggested the idea of removing weapons should be shot. Its the dumbest thing ever. The whole ice thing sucks too.
This game looks good. But, like every other Silent Hill fan, I must say that the game play is horrible in Shattered Memories. Different, yes! Good, not that good... unfortunately =[
The gameplay does look like it has flaws, especially in the monster chases. But it has the Psyche Profile, and that puts SH:SM ahead of itself as it is. I'm also (really) hoping that Climax has only shown us the most subtle scares and moments of suspense. The first intro clips were neat but the newer one in the forest felt like an empty shell. The polar bear shack was creepy, but the otherworld part after bored me. Even though the gameplay may have it's flaws in the end, let's give it a chance.
im play every SH made for consoles. and i really wait this game. looks like konami find a right way to restart the franchise. everything new. i remember when silent hill everyone bitching about in the same way than now. but now is the pillar of pshycologic terror games. is sad see how people compare RE with SH. RE is more like devil may cry or castlevania. and RE its not a real horror/terror game. its only a action game with zombies and mutants. thats all. quite boring for sure.
It spawned the entire Survival Horror franchise without Capcom's RE Konami would have never thought to create SH so your horror game wouldn't exist, and since RE is at the throne for basically creating the franchise (save for the original AITD) it's very natural for people to compare the two games since structurally they're nearly identical. Like I told Molarbutchoy the only action oriented RE games were 4 & 5 the rest relied on slow pacing and mood.
Yet your true about RE is really the first horror game..... no questions ask............
anyway, let us enjoy those developers ideas...... Well, were all just playing their games! heheheheh! I just only hate those who are comparing a certain game.... Let just have fun now and comment AFTER playing a game not comment BEFORE playing a game...
I'm not trying to argue just proving a point about how the two franchises can easily be compared with one another. I myself prefer SH because of it's abstract ideas and more psychological approach to the survival horror genre that RE created. I'm not comparing this with RE it hasn't even come out yet, but the older games can be compared to each other.

Dont complain about they changed the original characters' looks, attitude.. If u want the orgnal then get your ps1 and play the orignal silent hill that made by team silent...

RE is a action approach horror game
SH is a psychological approach horror game
FF is a scare approach horror game
And if you can't really stop complaining then go make your own game....
RE was never an action approach to horror games only 4 & 5. SH basically ripped the gameplay from RE and added a few little tweaks and a different atmosphere. In the SH games you get a plentiful ammount of ammo to use vs RE where you never really have enough and your knife isn't worth shit where in SH even that can be used to beath the game without much effort. 2 RE used jump scares to evoke fear, SH used noise and the unexpected to evoke fear, and FF was just damn creepy.
There is a difference between horror and terror. Horror has violent and gut wrenching imagery with plenty of blood and gore to gross you out and also scare you. Terror on the other hand, is more psychological.
I also like the new snowy/icy otherworld hell It creeps me out, as much as I loved the old blood and rust look, I probably wouldn't been scared by it now that I've seen it over and over again during the last 6 games..So i'm glad they decided to change the atmosphere a bit I'm probably the only one here who thinks that..
silent hill was more scary to me than fatal frame. fatal frame seems to be more pop up scares than anything, which dont frighten me after a few of them. silent hill was just...un-nerving, it always scared me more than anything else i have played since
re 5 is a horror action game. I perfer it over gay silent hill over day. I have silent hill games. there not scray. just plain boring and less chills than re 5.
I played all silent hill games and none are good to me, but I bet this one will be descent. re to me is one of the best horror games next to dead space.

Fleeing isn't bad at all, it's more realistic than being able to kill every monster that u encounter, who are u? Arnold Schwarzeneger? BTW Humans are violent ur right, but the first priority is survival, not to kill, there are plenty of ways to survive & hiding, fleeing is one of them, this could be fun who knows, and it's kinda impossible for harry to spend time tryna find guns & bullets around the city where his 1st priority is finding his daughter. To survive you need to defend yourself this we all know this running just makes things worse even when you know when the thing that is following you knows where you are so your trying to say is pointless. You don't have to be Arnie to do any this you just need a brain. Oh and yes his first priority is his daughter but he has no clue where she is while he's searching he'll eventually find a gun. Almost every liquor store, police station, gun shop has one.

Well Silent Hill has been the game for me for over 10 years,having played the first one when it came out and being a fan every since. And in EVERY Silent hill ,you get to chop and blast all the monsters. For instance , in the first Silent Hill my favorite weapon was the pickaxe, nothing like smashing the nurses and doctors with that. They've also always had knives , bats, guns , shotguns , chainsaws , ect... I hope this game stays true to Silent Hill and includes a nice set of weapons and gore.
There will be gore alright, but it won't be the excessive amont of gore that american horror storys have, even though it is being made by americans. They made it very clear that there won't be any weapons so they'll compensate it with the monster's hunt, not sure if you'll like it, but in my opinion it is much more chalenging than "there you are! *shoot monster*". I'm dying to see how the bosses will be like.
This games makes me wonder where its headed but it will fail if by what their developers are saying about it. There is no fucking way monsters are coming at you and there isn't even a fucking wrench to strike the monster its just not possible, only and idiot would do that. While Team Silent used physiological fear and this is more of "HE"S GOING TO CATCHUP!!!!!AHHHH HE DID!!!" it will get boring will quick.
They say that the game will strike fear in you cause you have to defend yourself with objects and running, any of you realized you'll be running through out the whole game? literally through the whole game. While the original SH hill freaked you out with noise and camera angles then scared you shitless with a big pyramid thing following you how can this match up to running? Humans are violent in nature if you cornered and the right modivation they will kill to survive.
Team Silent disbanded after SH 3 hence why the story up to this point makes no sense. This interview only proofs that Climax wants to start their own series of SH, to me this is just destroying the original. Technicality this is SH 5 not including homecoming and origins the harry you see is the same one from SH1 I've yet to figure out why if he's explaining his experience in HS he's describing it so incorrectly.

Alright Rory! Mad respect! Although I never played Resident Evil 1 on the Game Cube, Some of my buddies said that it was a good remake! Keep that list coming now.
You never asked for a list, but off the top of my head:
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Tomb Raider Anniversary , Final Fantasy III , Metroid Zero Mission . If you want a stretch, Star Fox 64 is a remake too.
Also, the upcoming Pokemon Heartgold looks to be a brilliant remake.
By the way, this game ISN'T a remake, it's a re-imagining. The characters, the world, the monsters, everything is going to be very, very different.
I think it looks like a really good game, but I see what people are saying about the snow. That's the only thing that bugs me about it. But I think the combat thing is a great idea, because tbf, in real life you would probably run away too. That and i get scared when I try to fight them lol. I think it will be very good to play. But I dunno about it being a remake.. Oh well :)
When I heard about the remake I thought "WOW, back to the good old days!!"...BUT THEN i SAW HARRY MASON WEARING GLASSES....so there came the first "WHY THEY HAD TO CHANGE THAT???" Just like the movie, so disappointing...
It's not only because of the costume changes, but also the lack of combat the same monster attacking you, the original characters attitudes and goals are not the same, the significant changes made of the "Other World" not being scary, but a winter wonderland. It just doesn't look scary or shocking, not like other game trailers. If you play the original game you'll notice that this remake doesn't do it justice but that the plot is similar to the movie. Another bad remake, MGS Twin Snakes.
It is not supposed to be a remake, it's a reimagining, plus it dosen't have a story by itself, the game changes according to the player's style so there is no way it is like the movie (do you think after Homecoming anyone would try it again?). BTW, Eddy's Otherwold was cold and icy, how come nobody ever complained about that?
Re-imagining is synonymous for remake. Look it up. Plus it does have a story along with characters which is taken from part 1 and the movie, regardless of what the creators say, making it into an ugly train wreck. If you're talking about the boss fight with Eddie in part 2, it's just that only part of the game and it takes place in some kind of meat locker and finally, because it was new story line, which was not bad and it had memorable characters and a new set of monsters. Especially P. Head!
I know it got the character from 1, but I don't remember they releasing any screencap showing characters from the movie. That meat locker IS part of the otherworld, Eddie's Otherworld. The Otherworld from 1 belongs to Alessa and we don't even know if there will be a Alessa in SM, and if there is she dubtlessly is different , so the Otherwold from SM isn't supposed the be like the one from the original.
The monsters change depending on your actions as does half the shit in the game. I will personally enjoy having to run instead of sit there and beat monsters with a pipe,it adds to the rush of the game. Plus the winter thing might not seem creepy now but if you play the game i'd imagine it's probably kinda eerie.

I mean you're armed with a cell phone, your constant nagging, and those ass-kicked emo glasses. I could only hope that they add a whistle to the arsenal for crowd control. You completely misunderstand me my friend. I really don't know how all that "emo" stuff came into play but whatever helps,I simply meant that you shouldn't doubt the game just because it's a remake,you could enjoy it. Running is also a nice change of pace considering one of the key things Silent Hill was always trying to touch on is the player being in constant fear,so why not scare them by not allowing them to fight? But whatever man,don't have to be a complete ass about it.
The fact is that it's a remake. If you use the same characters and where it takes place it's a remake. Just look at some movies such as Halloween. I'm horribly disappointed with this one especially because Harry does look like Danny Tanner! I would be less disappointed if they at least change the characters or at least the names. What's next? A remake of part 2 turning Pyramid Head into Sphere Head, or Cube Head? Did I spoil the surprise or did I add fuel to the fire and gave them more ideas?

Silent Hill hasn't been the same since part 4. I don't know about part 5, haven't played it yet, but I thought Origins was great in my opinion with its story line. How could anyone say that it's not taking anything from the original. They fucked up Harry Mason's image and made him look like Bob Saget's Full House's character Danny Tanner!!! I mean really are they for real? They also made Dahlia Gillespie look like a stripper/hooker. Cybil looked hot to begin with & now what man would want her now!? The dark, rusty "other world" is now replaced with the North Pole!? Harry has a cell phone during the 80's!? It's not even the ones used in Saved By The Bell.
you know this is Silent hill 1.5 and NOT A REMAKE!!!!!! The Game change is a re-imagine of what Harry's "Shattered Memories" of what happened to him in Silent Hill 1. The game, character, cutscenes, areas, events, and how the story progress are determined by what you do from Start to finish.
For example Cybil appearance and personality will be determined by the paper you fill out in the very beginning.
I think it looks really cool. I've been a Silent Hill fan since the first game. Homecoming wasn't really my thing, but this game seems really interesting. Because as great as Silent Hill is, it could use some new innovative stuff to stop it from repeating itself. I don't get people bitching about this being a reimaginig - it won't take away anything from the wonderful original no matter how bad this game might turn out...I just hope Lisa is in it! :)

I don't mind new takes on the SH lore/concepts, especially if they blend in the cool game mechanics I saw in the trailer; with one through four, we have a really extensive understanding of how the cult and that universe works. The movie, like this game will be, is for fun, a story- playing around. And I am incredibly happy to see Harry Mason again. This will be awesome. X3

this game sounds like fun and most likely will be due to the fact that Hary really seems helpless and even people are messing with his head imagine that feeling of having noone to rely on but yourself. Not too mention having to run and hide from creatures that wont leave you alone. Really having to use your wits in order to escape them and who says blue isnt scary ever seen a meat locker?

dude. it comes out for ps2 and psp as well as wii, fine. but that tells me that whoever picked up the silent hill genre now has decided to half ass their graphics. releasing it for ps2 [not next gen] system proves my point.
I've seen the PSP version and the graphics are massively downgraded from the Wii version. Plus, all the puzzles are designed for the Wii remote, so the other consoles are just going to have mundane button pressing where the motion controls were removed.
Haven't seen the PS2 build yet, but it's probably just ported from the PSP.

SH4 was alright, not the best, but thats actually when they started going down (and destroying the old plot...sort of) This game IMO is going to be a shit remake of the first (which was GREAT originally) and they are going to take all the aspects of the game that we liked and replace them with crap. Any Silent Hill fans are no longer going to be if they keep this up. Personally, I'm already out.
I think the don't realise that as the succesor of "the excellent TEAN SILENT" they have big shoes to fill and homecoming really did not do it for me the first 4 were awsum!!!

Shattered Memories is a greet game litlle remake of SH1.

im play every SH made for consoles. and i really wait this game. looks like konami find a right way to restart the franchise. everything new. i remember when silent hill everyone bitching about in the same way than now. but now is the pillar of pshycologic terror games. is sad see how people compare RE with SH. RE is more like devil may cry or castlevania. and RE its not a real horror/terror game. its only a action game with zombies and mutants. thats all. quite boring for sure.

It spawned the entire Survival Horror franchise without Capcom's RE Konami would have never thought to create SH so your horror game wouldn't exist, and since RE is at the throne for basically creating the franchise (save for the original AITD) it's very natural for people to compare the two games since structurally they're nearly identical. Like I told Molarbutchoy the only action oriented RE games were 4 & 5 the rest relied on slow pacing and mood.

I'm not trying to argue just proving a point about how the two franchises can easily be compared with one another. I myself prefer SH because of it's abstract ideas and more psychological approach to the survival horror genre that RE created. I'm not comparing this with RE it hasn't even come out yet, but the older games can be compared to each other.

RE was never an action approach to horror games only 4 & 5. SH basically ripped the gameplay from RE and added a few little tweaks and a different atmosphere. In the SH games you get a plentiful ammount of ammo to use vs RE where you never really have enough and your knife isn't worth shit where in SH even that can be used to beath the game without much effort. 2 RE used jump scares to evoke fear, SH used noise and the unexpected to evoke fear, and FF was just damn creepy.

There is a difference between horror and terror. Horror has violent and gut wrenching imagery with plenty of blood and gore to gross you out and also scare you. Terror on the other hand, is more psychological.

Fleeing isn't bad at all, it's more realistic than being able to kill every monster that u encounter, who are u? Arnold Schwarzeneger? BTW Humans are violent ur right, but the first priority is survival, not to kill, there are plenty of ways to survive & hiding, fleeing is one of them, this could be fun who knows, and it's kinda impossible for harry to spend time tryna find guns & bullets around the city where his 1st priority is finding his daughter. Well Silent Hill has been the game for me for over 10 years,having played the first one when it came out and being a fan every since. And in EVERY Silent hill ,you get to chop and blast all the monsters. For instance , in the first Silent Hill my favorite weapon was the pickaxe, nothing like smashing the nurses and doctors with that. They've also always had knives , bats, guns , shotguns , chainsaws , ect... I hope this game stays true to Silent Hill and includes a nice set of weapons and gore.

There will be gore alright, but it won't be the excessive amont of gore that american horror storys have, even though it is being made by americans. They made it very clear that there won't be any weapons so they'll compensate it with the monster's hunt, not sure if you'll like it, but in my opinion it is much more chalenging than "there you are! *shoot monster*". I'm dying to see how the bosses will be like.

There is no fucking way monsters are coming at you and there isn't even a fucking wrench to strike the monster its just not possible, only and idiot would do that. They say that the game will strike fear in you cause you have to defend yourself with objects and running, any of you realized you'll be running through out the whole game? literally through the whole game. While the original SH hill freaked you out with noise and camera angles then scared you shitless with a big pyramid thing following you how can this match up to running? Team Silent disbanded after SH 3 hence why the story up to this point makes no sense. This interview only proofs that Climax wants to start their own series of SH, to me this is just destroying the original. Technicality this is SH 5 not including homecoming and origins the harry you see is the same one from SH1 I've yet to figure out why if he's explaining his experience in HS he's describing it so incorrectly.

If you've play Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, you'll know how freaky it is to be chased with no weapon.
Just play the first 3 levels. It took forever to get a weapon, and it scared the HELL out of me to outrace the Innsmouth men.

You never asked for a list, but off the top of my head:
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Tomb Raider Anniversary , Final Fantasy III , Metroid Zero Mission . If you want a stretch, Star Fox 64 is a remake too.
Also, the upcoming Pokemon Heartgold looks to be a brilliant remake.
By the way, this game ISN'T a remake, it's a re-imagining. The characters, the world, the monsters, everything is going to be very, very different.

But I think the combat thing is a great idea, because tbf, in real life you would probably run away too. That and i get scared when I try to fight them lol. I think it will be very good to play. It's not only because of the costume changes, but also the lack of combat the same monster attacking you, the original characters attitudes and goals are not the same, the significant changes made of the "Other World" not being scary, but a winter wonderland. It just doesn't look scary or shocking, not like other game trailers. If you play the original game you'll notice that this remake doesn't do it justice but that the plot is similar to the movie. Another bad remake, MGS Twin Snakes.

It is not supposed to be a remake, it's a reimagining, plus it dosen't have a story by itself, the game changes according to the player's style so there is no way it is like the movie (do you think after Homecoming anyone would try it again?). BTW, Eddy's Otherwold was cold and icy, how come nobody ever complained about that?

Re-imagining is synonymous for remake. Look it up. Plus it does have a story along with characters which is taken from part 1 and the movie, regardless of what the creators say, making it into an ugly train wreck. If you're talking about the boss fight with Eddie in part 2, it's just that only part of the game and it takes place in some kind of meat locker and finally, because it was new story line, which was not bad and it had memorable characters and a new set of monsters. Especially P. Head!

I know it got the character from 1, but I don't remember they releasing any screencap showing characters from the movie. That meat locker IS part of the otherworld, Eddie's Otherworld. The Otherworld from 1 belongs to Alessa and we don't even know if there will be a Alessa in SM, and if there is she dubtlessly is different , so the Otherwold from SM isn't supposed the be like the one from the original.

The monsters change depending on your actions as does half the shit in the game. I will personally enjoy having to run instead of sit there and beat monsters with a pipe,it adds to the rush of the game. Plus the winter thing might not seem creepy now but if you play the game i'd imagine it's probably kinda eerie.

I really don't know how all that "emo" stuff came into play but whatever helps,I simply meant that you shouldn't doubt the game just because it's a remake,you could enjoy it. Running is also a nice change of pace considering one of the key things Silent Hill was always trying to touch on is the player being in constant fear,so why not scare them by not allowing them to fight? But whatever man,don't have to be a complete ass about it.

The fact is that it's a remake. If you use the same characters and where it takes place it's a remake. Just look at some movies such as Halloween. I'm horribly disappointed with this one especially because Harry does look like Danny Tanner! I would be less disappointed if they at least change the characters or at least the names. What's next? A remake of part 2 turning Pyramid Head into Sphere Head, or Cube Head? Did I spoil the surprise or did I add fuel to the fire and gave them more ideas?

Silent Hill hasn't been the same since part 4. I don't know about part 5, haven't played it yet, but I thought Origins was great in my opinion with its story line. you know this is Silent hill 1.5 and NOT A REMAKE!!!!!! The Game change is a re-imagine of what Harry's "Shattered Memories" of what happened to him in Silent Hill 1. The game, character, cutscenes, areas, events, and how the story progress are determined by what you do from Start to finish.
For example Cybil appearance and personality will be determined by the paper you fill out in the very beginning.

I think it looks really cool. I've been a Silent Hill fan since the first game. Homecoming wasn't really my thing, but this game seems really interesting. Because as great as Silent Hill is, it could use some new innovative stuff to stop it from repeating itself. I don't get people bitching about this being a reimaginig - it won't take away anything from the wonderful original no matter how bad this game might turn out...I just hope Lisa is in it! :)

I don't mind new takes on the SH lore/concepts, especially if they blend in the cool game mechanics I saw in the trailer; with one through four, we have a really extensive understanding of how the cult and that universe works. The movie, like this game will be, is for fun, a story- playing around. And I am incredibly happy to see Harry Mason again. This will be awesome. X3

I've seen the PSP version and the graphics are massively downgraded from the Wii version. Plus, all the puzzles are designed for the Wii remote, so the other consoles are just going to have mundane button pressing where the motion controls were removed.
Haven't seen the PS2 build yet, but it's probably just ported from the PSP.

I'm not going to judge it befor I play it.
Going to keep an open mind.
SH4, SH0 and Homecoming were all terrible in my opinon. I loved the first and third, but I'm still going to give this a try.
I'm sure I'll get thumbed down for saying this.

SH4 was alright, not the best, but thats actually when they started going down (and destroying the old plot...sort of) This game IMO is going to be a shit remake of the first (which was GREAT originally) and they are going to take all the aspects of the game that we liked and replace them with crap. Any Silent Hill fans are no longer going to be if they keep this up. Personally, I'm already out.

I think the don't realise that as the succesor of "the excellent TEAN SILENT" they have big shoes to fill and homecoming really did not do it for me the first 4 were awsum!!!

They [Climax] didnt do homecoming ( good thing). They did origins which to me was a really good game that was'nt made by the original team. IMO!!!~~~
