I think they did this in '64 and the Rolling Stones played with Howlin' Wolf around this time, too. I guess you're right if the Yardbirds did it first.
Sonny Boy Williamson and the Yardbirds at the Crawdaddy Club. This is early 1960's British\American Blues at it's best. This LP paved the way for the Stones and other bands to record with other American blues musicians who could barely make a living in the states, but had a very receptive audience overseas.
I listened to this LP until it got Dobie Gillis smooth in my high school daze.
