1) Despite the professor producing ID that proved in fact he was the owner of the house, he arrested him anyway!

2) After establishing that the professor was the owner, this POS didn't attempt a further search of the property to make sure there weren't in fact a real burglar!

3) being an officer of "The Law", he should know "The Law", which is: it takes more than belligerent language to constitute "Disorderly Conduct"!!!

The 911 tape has been released and neighbor testimonials regarding Professor "ya momma" Gates racist rant against the officer Crowley whose only crime is being white. Plus, Gates has been proven a liar by the women whom reported the possible breaking and entering. She is NOT white and NEVER provided a racial description. Crowley is an imbecile. 1)He should have left Gates' home once id (2 forms of it) had been produced. 2) he cannot arrest someone for shouting in their own home (contravention of the 1st amendment). 3) He did NOT read Gates his rights before arresting him. As for the caller, she did not actually SEE anything, it was the old lady that alerted her to what was going on, who actually saw Gates trying to get into his home.

Actually ur a liar, the 911 tape supports gates, gates didnt write the police report did he. CRowley state that the 911 caller said she saw 2 black men in HIS REPORT. THATS A BIG FAT LIE. it was his report that put the 2 black men into it . He also said the 911 caller spoke to him and another cop that did not happen. Gates gets upset, because of the officers assumption that he was the perpetrator and assumed he didn't know his rights and walked right into his house without consent or a warrant. So Gates asks again and again for badge and name, officer refuses. Gates challenges the officer about his wrongful doing, entering the house and assuming Gates was the perpetrator. Officer loses cool and arrest him. Officers hate it when you challenge them about your rights.

After watching this you really get a feel for what may have really happened. The cops twist stuff in police reports all the time to cover up for themselves and others. What likely happened is Gates stayed inside and went to get his IDs and the officer followed him in, unknowing that Gates is well educated and knew his rights. Officer looks at IDs, oh crap, Gates tells him he has no right to be in his house, asks for his badge and name. Officer doesn't respond, cause he knows what will happend.

Ay look, for many blacks and latinos I don't think we would've reacted like Gates did because we know if we react like that we'll get arrested and more. However, I do think Sgt. Crowley overreacted and shouldn't have arrested Gates. I think Sgt. Crowley got offended by Gates, but police usually have thick skin for these things and Crowley took it personal. Sgt. Crowley should've used more restraint. Cooler heads should've prevailed.

One time they didn't believe it was me driving my own car because the license plate was reported stolen some time ago. However, the manner they apprehend me was crazy because they had helicopters, three squad cars, and pointed guns at me. I showed my reg., drivers lic., and second ID. It took awhile to clear up. All this for two chicanos. Talk about overreaction.

Dude, first of all, the story I told was about me, so what happen to Gates is a separate issue. I understand why the cops did what they did to me, but it was shocking, thats all. The only thing I question is if the officers could've handled it differently or not. If they could've handled it differently, why didnt they do so. And i dont know that answer, I can only assume that it was based on racial stereotypes, that doesnt mean the officers were racists, it means sometimes cops overreact.

Here is something to consider... When Gates went to get his ID he walked away from the officer who at the time wasn't sure exactly who Gates was Right???. The officer went with (followed) him (could it be maybe keeping a possible burglar in his sights??)

Gates immediately went off demanding (Gates Words) the officers name & badge. Why the immediate offensiveness from Gates to an officer trying to determine if he was indeed the resident of the home.

An arrest for disorderly under these circumstances was illegal. The comment by the professor, even if way out of line, is not an arrestable offense under these circumstances. If the cop really thought there was a B&E, he should have gotten a warrant. No exigent circumstances here. Cops cannot deal with the word no because they are used to people complying with their commands. Obama should have stayed out of this though. Really. Talk about calling in favors.

It may be SOP to check ID but it's illegal to follow someone into their home absent hot pursuit or exigent circumstances (ec not present here). Hot pursuit usually applies when the police are pursuing a suspected felon into private premises or have probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed on private premises. This was a preliminary investigation. The officer was gathering information at this point.

Police have protocol for these situations so they can go home at night instead of being killed.
