  • I want to know where in hell did 1 dislike come from??? This song and album is a masterpiece it is so SUPERIOR to any of the shit that is out today!!!

  • This song takes me back to 1983...my young wife and I were struggling to keep our heads above water, working full time, raising 3 young daughters. There was always music playing when I was home with my baby girls...they know so much Simon and Garfunkel, The Cars, Alan Parsons Project... These songs put my in a reminiscent frame of mind...these are pleasant memories to relive for me. I can thank Ric and Ben, David, Elliot and Greg for placing these markers along the path that is my life...

  • Why do people declare music to be 'the best', or 'the worst', or this album was better than that album...

People...music is so subjective to listener preference. It doesn't need to be judged in terms of who is best, or worst, or which is best, etc. It's about how the music and the lyrics make you feel; the state of mind it induces; the memories or emotional responses it invokes in you. You don't have to freaking judge it; just listen...let the emotions run...let the tears flow...whatever..

  • I think this is their best album. All bands are better before they are considered pop.

  • Is there a live version available?. Love this song.

  • it's my party you can come it's my part have some fun it's my dream have a laugh it's my life have a half don't tell me no it's my transition it's my play it's my phone call to beta ray it's my hopscotch light the torch it's my down time feel the scorch don't tell me no it's my ambition it's my joke it's my teardrop emotional smoke it's my mercy it's my plan i wanna go to futureland don't tell me no

  • It's my party,,,,you can come

It's my hopscotch.....it's my down time

I like it when you tell me slow.....

  • I like this album better then Heartbeat City

  • I don't think this album sucks and I"m sure I'm not the only car fan that feels this way. Perhaps not there best album, but there are some fabulous songs on here. This is certainly one of them!

  • apparently only one troll can't handle rejection

  • @julieswahn... agreed... this one always makes me emotional... RIP Benjamin Orr :'(

  • Cool song, I like it when you tell me so, that's different!

  • i like it when you tell me slow......

  • @MrSilkySweat - LOL!!!

  • @MrSilkySweat I disagree,it certainly dont suck, there are alot of good songs on Panorama. Did you ever listen to Running to you. its the first two albums that make Panorama look bad. You r comparing the three albums. I think door to door that was least successful.

  • @MrSilkySweat HUH?....It may have not been their best, but it's easy to tell with this band. Sequence.....1, 2, 3, and it's downhill from there!

  • @MrSilkySweat How do you figure THAT?? Your here listening to this excellent cut from it!

  • @MrSilkySweat Everyone has their tastes. Panorama has always been second in line for me. It's a sad, with a tinge of desperation, sounding album. If people like the Cars for the more upbeat stuff, this ain't going to be the cup of tea. But for me, this has more gravity to it and that's what I like (of course the musicianship and production is great as always).

  • @toolkien Agreed. I like it because it's a bit darker than mainstream pop hits.

  • soo great!

  • A REALLY GOOD ALBUM..A MORE MATURE SOUND SOMETHING THEY DEVELOPED ON THEIR OWN WITH NOT SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON THE ROXY MUSIC INFLUENCE BUT SOME OF IT IS STILL THERE...EVEN THE ALBUM COVER DOESN'T INCLUDE A FEMALE...

  • Oh yeah.....forgot about this one....thanks for the post....love it!!!!

  • my favourite song in lp panorama 1980,this song is marvellous,i m listening this song always,i love cars lp 78/84.the cars new wave/dark

  • @emovampireMCRkilljoy absolutely look at the dent they put in the music of today. Even Starbucks has their Cd for Sale!

  • I get chills every time I hear this song. I was dating a girl after high school for about 6 months. It all went good. Then one day she called me and asked me to meet her. I jumped in my car and off I went. She said did not want to see me again. She died in a car accident 2 months later. This was the song I heard after we broke up,and she drove away.It took every ounce of energy to go to her funeral. That was my "Emotional Smoke". Love this song to the end.

  • @caliburkidd Wow, that is some story... Sorry for your loss, must have been devastating....This song is Great,,,

  • It's my PLARTY!

  • Emotional Smoke time~

  • The Cars came on the scene for me in 1978, the year I started high school. Their first album had me hooked. They were something different that hadn't been heard before, and they were and are amazing. Stupid me, I thought Rik Ocasek sang all the songs, believe it or not. until my grandmother asked me if I heard "Benny's Song" on the radio. I thought she was going loopy until "Just What I Needed" came on the radio. My grandmother used to bring me to see the family in Cleveland!

  • NO!

  • The only album the Cars produced that was not "strong" was Door to Door all other Cars albums rule!

  • gifted with the voice to be certain...voice yes....face, smile, charisma, aura, taste in clothes, sets ones soul on fire.....also have heard he was a hell of a nice guy....<3

  • @whitewitch8 I speak from experience he was. Met him in San Diego in '82 and could not believe how utterly approachable he was. A true midwestern dude to the core. No pretense or arrogance at all just a very cool likeable guy who seemed to enjoy meeting total strangers like me. Hope to God he didn't suffer too terribly from that fucking cancer. RIP Ben.

  • @tripleheshy

you are the luckiest motherfucker at this video! sorry about the cussing, but that is badass that you got to meet ben orr before his cancer hit him with a pussy-shot attempting to kill, and succedded.

  • @TheMajorHawke Thanks. In retrospect I guess I was. It seems the good people are usually the first to go far too early.

  • To too think this album is underrated.

  • Me and my girlfiends use to ride around in a van that had a sliding door on the side listening to the Cars. We'd drive by guys and slide the van door open and flash them! This song reminded me of that! Thanks for posting.

  • @MydnytSun and thanks for yours lol

  • Always loved this one!

  • I had all there stuff on 8-track,love it!!

  • thanks !!!

  • have some fun.

  • have some fun

  • DONT YOU EVER Ruin THE PARTY...DO NOT TELL ME NO!! REFUSE.

  • I like the drums during the chorus. A unique album to say the least.

  • Ah! Awesome. Great Boston Band from the day. If one wanted to be a superstar today. They simply have to be as good as these guys.

  • My favorite from this album... So arcane, so interesting...

  • It's my party, you can come

It's my party, have some fun

It's my dream, have a laugh

It's my life, have a half

  • Just hearing Ben sing those lyrics kills me..

  • yes baby, taken me back to my LSD days of purple mycro dot, and Rorer 714's... i only bought the 1st 3 albums, after that too commercial, but love em...thanks dude

  • IT's Party- And you can Come - Ya damn right!!

  • How about this song from Panorama album,

Getting through to you. That's one of my favorite song.

  • i think it was Ben Orr on this one

  • cool song, but lead singer looks like a goof

  • The lead singer for this song is Ben Orr?

  • Yes. The only lead singers for the Cars were its ringleader, Ric Ocasek and bassist Ben Orr. From what I've read, Ben twisted Ric's arm to sing/sing more... ;)

  • @bradominus ANd Im glad he did because It just akes them different then everyone else. No other band really had two vocalists and had all those hits too. Very few sounded like them then and noone sounds like them now : )

  • Seriously? It kinda sounds like Ric.... That's cool. Very.

  • A HOT goof. LOL.

  • Ben's voice was kind of deep, but he could also effortlessly transition to falsetto, as in Let's Go. What made his voice so unique is the undertones and his enunciation. And that's just genetics and upbringing.

  • He was gifted with that voice.

  • @Chuck1701 Yes, and he spoke Ukranian, Russian and Czech at home.

  • Great song

  • One of the few Cars songs featuring Greg Hawkes on the sax. Great Benjamin Orr vocals, too. I like it when he sings, "It's my ambition", you can hear him starting to laugh.

  • I LOVE "DON'T TELL ME NO"

It's my ambition, it's my joke

    It's my teardrop, emotional smoke

It's my mercy, it's my plan

I want to go to futureland

  • i saw them in 1980 panorama tour with the motels in san diego fucking rad show

  • Plain and simple... The Cars rock!!!

  • another great song, from that great album!!!!!!!!!!

  • where can i find "getting through"?

  • Best song from Panarama IMO. Great vocals by Orr.

  • another great song, from that great album!
