Dandy Orandas is great, but the shipping is insane. Then you get hustled to buying even MORE fish lol.
Don't expect to spend less then 80 dollars or more from Dandy Orandas, (Shipping alone is like 50-60 bucks). Hard to say if they are great quality fish (Had a Ranchu die from Hexamita from there), but better then a LFS. You get what you pay for... I guess.
I dont know why people think goldfish look nice. No offense to your fish But goldfish look over bloated and their yes look like they are caused by a desease of some sort. Thy come in two colors. There are many exotic freshwater fishes out there. Nice video by the way.
@remelsheikh THey look nice because their isn't only one type of goldfish smarts. They have many many kinds. some with telescope eyes others with wens some with calico colors and some that are slim and some that are fat. they also have more than two colors........who said they only have two colors? Hahahhaha. There not easy to care for. They produce lots of ammonia and they are hard fish to keep, you have to be experienced to keep them alive for more than two weeks you know.
stunning fish!!.. this is the kind i have .. my baby has very long amazing fins ... recently she has been turned upside down and nothing i do will fix it. :( im very worried and am thinking about trying bacterial medication and maybe even medicated food. ive had this fish for 5 years and really would like to save it.
It's a lot safer for the goldfish, plus easier to keep clean if you don't use gravel. Anything deeper than 1/4 inch holds nasty anaerobic bacteria that can make them sick. They could also choke on the gravel if you're not careful about the size. Plus, I just like the tidy look of not having gravel! I think it looks nicer.
@flashofpink Hey its me again :) my new aquarium is totally inspired by you.. I even ordered some anubias nana's and I have some river rocks! I tried gravel again first because all my friends thought my fish were sad for not being able to suck on gravel.. but no gravel just looks nicer.. is no gravel bad? I've got some river rocks they like to assault :P also, how often do you clean their waste (poop) since goldfish eat a lot and it shows on no gravel tanks :x I never see poo in your tanks..
No, I don't. I've been told by many sellers that once you open to bag and expose the water in the bag to the air, the ammonia in the bag becomes much more toxic. So it's best to get them into the fresh new water as soon as possible after opening the bag. All the fish I've acclimated in this way do perfectly fine. :)
@flashofpink what I do is once you have got the fish home empty the fish and the bag water into a big bucket then get a airline hose and slowly syphone water from your tank into the bucket for about 25-30 minutes this will help them aclimatise to temp,PH,amonia, nitrite andnitrate levels in your tank then just scoop them out in a net
the way your doing it will be fine for goldfish rite enough as they are really hardy fish and don't die easily
I know of people who acclimate fish the way you describe, and they had a horrible experience (the fish died). As soon as the bag water is exposed to air, the ammonia in the water becomes ultra toxic. There is no need to acclimate them that way anyways; the pH in the shipping bag is normally slightly lower than the tank pH, and a slight rise in pH is much less harmful to the fish than a drop in pH would be.
@flashofpink think about what your saying , if ammonia in aquarium water becomes "ultra toxic" when it comes into contact with water would your aquarium not suffer the same affect the second you open the lid ?
That's not what I said. The ammonia in the shipping bag becomes more toxic as soon as you open the bag and expose the shipping water to fresh air. I do not know how this works, I'm not a chemist. But major goldfish experts in the US have advised me that this is true.
The slight harm (if any) in going into completely new water is much less than the harm in sitting in the filthy bag water. If you really want to acclimate them that way though, you should at least add a double dose of Prime (to detox ammonia) to the bag water immediately after opening the bag. And maybe you already do that, I don't know.
@flashofpink you buy into to many chemicals mate , slight harm ? shock changes in water conditions can cause major problems the same reason as you never do 100% water changes in your tank, the way I do it is the proper way especialy for more delicate fish
I wasn't saying you wer wrong just asking if you done it the way I do lol
Doing a 100% water change in a fish tank is no problem! It's actually a myth that you can't do a 100% water change. As long as the temperature and pH are perfectly matched and your water parameters are normal (ammonia and nitrite at zero and nitrates low) then it's not stressful for the fish. Many successful goldfish hobbyists (including myself) routinely do large (75%) water changes with no harm to the fish at all. :)
For goldfish you have to change at least 50% of the water each week under normal stocking conditions. I change at least that amount, but normally I do a couple 50% changes a week. Lots of clean fresh water is the most important thing for keeping goldfish healthy and happy.
@flashofpink they must be a bit like cichlids in that way as they thrive with really big water changes but most tropical fish don't I do 25% weekly water changes clean the filter once a month
they must be happy and healthy as quite a few of them have started breeding
Yeah, they produce a lot of waste like cichlids do. I have a small tropical tank as well, and I don't find that I need to change the water as often for those fish. I add only Prime by Seachem to remove the chlorine.
@flashofpink yeah that's good stuff hard to get a hold of it over here though I use interpet bioactive tapsafe it's got aloe vera and some good bacteria 25 ml does 50 gallons so it lasts well use it for all my tanks
I'm in the middle of adding a few videos but it takes a long time becaude they are HD checkout some of my other videos
I love how calmly you manage to open the box. When I get fish shipped to me I savagely rip open the box to see my (usually very expensive) fish.
