Band Aid should happen yearly, but as Sting and Bono will tell you, it never does that much to improve album sales.
@hydfawr Midge Ure actually wrote the song and back in 1984 was far better known than Geldof was. Geldof used him and then elbowed him out of the way. I saw Midge at a technology show at Earls Court in 2000 and he seemed like a very nice guy indeed, the word is modest indeed.

For those of us, who love rock'n'roll and who were old enough on July 13th, 1985 to be a part of it, LIVE AID and Band Aid before it, is somthing we will treasure our whole lives.

I can't believe all the negative comment on here - he has a few faults but who doesn't? And if these faults make something like Live Aid possible, I think they are definitly worth putting up with. I just don't get the 'there are still Africans starving' or 'not all the money got to Africa' arguments. There is only so much one person can do and he's done more than most, it is the responsibilty of everybody that there's so many people living in poverty - at least he got up off his arse and tried.

Paula fought for custody so her daughters would be raised together, she would not want her baby separated from her sisters. Michael's mom has always blamed Paula for MH's death, accusing her of getting him on drugs and getting pregnant to trap him. All to the media and in a book so Tiger will read about it in time. Tiger belongs with the people who love her, not with a bitter woman who'll brainwash her against her mom. If she truly cared for Tiger she wouldn't rip her mother apart like that.

Why should Bob allow Tiger to visit a woman who has said terrible things about her mother to the media and in a book, who doesn't care enough about her granddaughter's feelings to keep quiet. According to MH's mom, Paula didn't allow them to see Tiger either, didn't invite them to the christening and sent their gifts back. Maybe there's a reason for Bob and Paula to hold back?
As has been mentioned elsewhere on here, Paula was capable of malicious lies and schemes. She lied to everyone, including Michael, to get what she wanted.
I think Geldof is a talented actor and speaker, and talented at other abilities as well, but I'm not sure of him as a person. I think he may partly be to blame for Michael Hutchence's suicide (which is not to say that Michael's lack of emotional balance wasn't also to blame).
Hutchence had massive problems stemming from his brain injury, (depression, addictions).
Geldof knew Paula had been diagnosed with BPD -borderline personality disorder, and Geldof knew she was capable of huge malicious lies and schemes; he could have warned Hutchence or Hutchence's family but, he did not. Not even for the sake of the child that was born.
@HanaVescent Paula's mental issues started after she left Bob and was exacerbated by her insercurities, obsession and drug addiction, so your info is wrong. Let's look at this another way...why didn't Michael tell Bob that Paula was unstable and had a drug problem? Y'know for the 4 kids in the house? I agree I don't warm to Geldof as a person, but I believe Michael's death was an accident. Michael was so loaded with drugs and booze that day I don't think he realized what he was doing. I doubt he would have left Tiger deliberately, he was devoted to her.
@brekinridge1 Michael was depressed. He'd been on Prozac for about a year and had been seeing a psychiatrist. This all came out at the inquest & his family believe that he intentionally killed himself. Of course he was devoted to his daughter but people who are suicidal aren't in a rational state of mind.

He'd let them go to Aus the previous 2 years before drugs became an issue. Michael was irrational because of the pressure from Paula and the drugs. He was a good guy but was so confused.

I can't believe all the negative comment on here - he has a few faults but who doesn't? And if these faults make something like Live Aid possible, I think they are definitly worth putting up with. I just don't get the 'there are still Africans starving' or 'not all the money got to Africa' arguments. There is only so much one person can do and he's done more than most, it is the responsibilty of everybody that there's so many people living in poverty - at least he got up off his arse and tried.

Paula fought for custody so her daughters would be raised together, she would not want her baby separated from her sisters. Michael's mom has always blamed Paula for MH's death, accusing her of getting him on drugs and getting pregnant to trap him. All to the media and in a book so Tiger will read about it in time. I think Geldof is a talented actor and speaker, and talented at other abilities as well, but I'm not sure of him as a person. I think he may partly be to blame for Michael Hutchence's suicide (which is not to say that Michael's lack of emotional balance wasn't also to blame).

Hutchence had massive problems stemming from his brain injury, (depression, addictions).
Geldof knew Paula had been diagnosed with BPD -borderline personality disorder, and Geldof knew she was capable of huge malicious lies and schemes; he could have warned Hutchence or Hutchence's family but, he did not. Not even for the sake of the child that was born.

This all came out at the inquest & his family believe that he intentionally killed himself. Of course he was devoted to his daughter but people who are suicidal aren't in a rational state of mind.

He'd let them go to Aus the previous 2 years before drugs became an issue. Also the kids told Bob that Paula was looking for a house to buy in Aus with Michael so he was worried that they weren't coming back. Michael was irrational because of the pressure from Paula and the drugs. He was a good guy but was so confused.

I can tell you on good authority that she's a happy well-adjusted little girl with a strong will of her own. It was also her idea to change her last name. She is STILL Hutchence as well, and would not change that. She loves Michael very much, he will always be her 'real dad'. Geldof is her 'other dad'. She knows the difference.

It's not about "what if" and "he probably would be", it's not. Live Aid happened, it was freaking amazing, it was freaking huge, and Queen owned the whole day. << LOVE QUEEN!
Everyone, say what you want about Geldof, but we ALL know he's done more and raised more money than all of us combined.

I couldn't agree more, scotmanish! Angelic Bob isn't so angelic if you bother to do some research into the life of this self absorbed and talentless twit. He hasn't done any respectable work since composing I Don't Like Mondays almost 30 yrs ago. Since then, he's been riding the coattails of every impoverished continent on the planet in an effort to reinvent himself as a humanitarian, pocket some of the dividends and revive that non existent career of his. ritter89! Agree! If it wasn't for Live Aid it would now be a case of Bob who? Geldof would now be playing and singing "I don't like Mondays" at Thursday night gigs in small three quarter empty market town nightclubs and large pubs at £3.50 a ticket.
He would still have a record contract however but not with EMI or Sony etc but with a lesser known 'independent' label like 'Furry Dice Records' who would have to press 75 cd's to cope with demmand.

Perhaps, but he does do a lot of good in this world. Focus on bullshitting celebs who do nothing, or worse, harm to those around them for your insults. Paris Hilton and most footballers, for example.

He is taking the focus away from the real people working hard to help the worlds needy, every second he is allowed to talk shite and wallow in his own self importance on TV is time taken from those whose message is important , honest and valuable! The gratuitous use of overly elongated words, phrases and passages, is ingenuous in as much as the listener could, can,maybe, infact more than likely will be led to understand that the person talking is in some way, in as much as society would accept it as being factual, an inteligent yet humble if slightly extravogant individual, where as often, as in this case is merely a simple disguise to avert our attantion from the simple reality that the man is in fact, simply put, a tit.

i meant the biggest of its kind:) in terms of a collective musical collaboration & exhibited to a global audience - so that context yes it was the biggest event:) im not concerned with its impact or the aftermath or politics or otherwise as you have mentioned - the good intentions were there - you cant blame him for the message not getting where it was supposed to go:)

Sir Bob didnt organise liveaid, he put his famous face on the t shirt as it were! Remind me of its ,final success rating, where did the money go? remind me of the impact of the "biggest event in history", on the starving people of ethiopia, a very sad end to what should, had it been properly managed, have saved many many more than it did, keep an eye on his offspring, thats all he can really be held responsible for!
