the only way this would work is if he poured bleach into the mt dew bottle before he shot the video!! if you wanna make a glowing bottle get 15 match heads (crush them or just cut them off) put them in bottle, pour 3 cap fulls of hydrogen peroxide and 1 cap full of bleach into bottle put lid on and shake!!

Of course it doesn`t work, If you want to ge a nice chemoluminiscence you need luminol, there is no way that dew, baking soda and peroxide would produce the glow. He had some other chemical already mixed in dew and in that bottle of peroxide there was something else to.

Actually, there are four ingredients. The only real one is the hydrogen peroxide. The other three are Sodium Hydroxide, Luminol, and Sodium Ferrocyanide

the thing about chemistry is that to get good results, ingredients have to be mixed exactly in the proper quantity. if you put "1 more miligram of this" and "1 miligram less of that", obviously it will be just a waste of time and resources.

But some time ago a guy in a national geographic tv show made the same thing with a pop drink, some baking soda and an other ingredient , but i dont remember if it was hydrogen peroxide or not... well, at least on national geographic it really did work....

nice video, but i don't think that mountain dew has luminol in it so that it can produce chemoluminescence by oxidation.

beside chemoluminescence there is another glowing trick, the fluorescence of substances like chinin (in some bitter leomon sodas)which also makes a nice effect when in UV light.

Totally fake. He has the chemical from the glass tube inside a glowstick in the Mountain Dew cap. When it mixes with the peroxide (the other ingredient in a glowstick) the bottle glows. You can see the cut when he puts the cap on the bottle.
