  • People and how they function is more important than ideas = Wrong...He proved it wrong by completely debilitating one of their employees on the first movie which became a tremendous success. People even in this era sacrifice their livelihood and time for a coveted idea and although he would like to believe it's more important, it is not.

  • Hey, your video has good content, but I am not sure I totally agree with it... I guess that is why everyone has a channel and opinion right? Either way I like the content and the presentation. I picked up a few ideas from this video so thank you for posting. May I ask, how you go about determining what to make video content about? Are you looking for trending topics or are you just making content around what you think people should be consuming online? I am trying to figure out my process...

  • @startupbuildervideos Oh hai wordpress spam...

  • This is a good video... a lot of content summarized rather well. Thanks for posting, looking forward to watching your future videos. There is a lot of average stuff out there on YouTube, but I think this is great material. How long have you been creating videos? I just started and am trying to pick up ideas from other users with content rich channels (like yours). Any tips?

  • Not bad, not bad at all. You presented this very wel. I enjoyed watching it, looking forward to more videos from you. I am just getting started with with creating video content and it is not as easy as it looks... well... its not as easy as YOU make it look. Nice work.

  • woo.. hmm to be a successful business person, we need a good advisers like them so that we will see what can makes a company fail.

  • Crises Small

  • "They they can burn and die" wow.! you ended it very astonishing.!!! :)

  • "You only fail when you don't learn" or something like that.

  • title in chinese:

    防微杜漸

    agree?

  • In the Transcript there were three specific typos that should be addressed. 44:10 - "writer band" s/b "RenderMan". 44:42 "Scott McNealy" was the head of Sun, 48:53 "island" s/b "ILM" aka Industrial Light and Magic.

  • cuntttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • I wonder how much the animators themselves shared in the success of Toy Story movies - or was it only select few who jumped on the cash pot.

This is important question because talented artists won't stay gullible forever.

  • That's some wisdom fo yo ass right there!

  • Wow this is superb. Thanks for posting, and thankyou Mr Catmull - the splines are kewl too ;-)

  • i would be very interested to see the original cut of toy story 2, the one that got thrown out.

  • Who actually watched the whole thing?

  • @Tyrannobull

    Those w/o ADD? ;)

  • @Tyrannobull People with a brain-stem. People who care for good tips on a successful business. People who care to make money. Lots of money.

  • Michael Scott should watch this.

  • Awesome upload, thank you!!!

  • @shagr14 LOL! That would be great!

  • Ed Catmull! The man behind the Catmull spline. Cool!

  • The second move he mentions is "A Bug's Life," not "White Sock" as it says in the caption.

  • The whole idea of focus on team and communication, iterative process and regular reviews has a name: Agile development.

Nonetheless it's quite a surprise to see it applied to movie making at Pixar.

  • I would hope most company heads in any industry could learn from this.

  • The uploader should really put his name somewhere: Ed Catmull.

In the titel or in the description.

    cheers

  • You are correct. I've updated the title with Ed's name. Thanks for the feedback.

  • "Then they can burn and die"

What a way to finish a lecture. I love Ed Catmull.

  • great speech .. but the piece with the baby incident [@ 18:32] was very shocking .. couldn't really concentrate on the speech for sometime after that ! I am sure many from the audience would have been shocked too!

  • I knew Catmull's reputation as a computer scientist, but I never realized before how talented he is as a manager. Everyone who ever runs a business should watch this talk.

    -jcr

  • The tags suggest that this is John Lasseter giving the talk, when it is in fact Edwin Catmull.

  • Good stuff.
