You have no idea how much I wish to have been born and lived THERE and THEN. Georgia, 1959, not Silesia, 1991. Go to 40 Watt in the evening, have stout and party with REM, buy myself a van and tour the States.
Unfortunately times change and still we don't choose place of birth-sorry for this cry, blame Romance.
in response to privaatsak I think this is possibly the most pivitol song in R.E.M.'s career. I believe the band where looking to record this with Don Gehman, but he was unavailabe and recommended Scott Litt - who as we know went on the produce R.E.M.'s next 6 album's during their most successful in terms of album sales.
I agree with the idea for an earlier picture to match the era of the song but overall the clean and very good looking picture in the widescreen (In which most pictures don't appear in yet anyway) format looks very sharp....and perhaps such a good pic is good for uniform purposes. After all the sound quality of the music is what matters most (and the fact that the song is available to hear for FREE in the first place) - anyway....good job
awesome classic r.e.m. sound. this would have fitted well on perhaps early r.e.m. stuff. it was unfortunate that this was recorded late on into their careers - when they were looking for a different sort of sound - post document era.
I beleive this was their first recording with Scott Litt pre-Doument. They were trying to capture that live performance sound which they totally did on this. But Document ended up sounding a lot more "studio" which is a shame.. would've been cool to hear that whole album done like this! :D
This song was written in 81 and this recording is from 86...there's an early version of it in my Tyrones show I have posted. It should have been on a proper album, it's a great song!

From their last IRS release, "Eponymous." Song is from the 1987 motion picture "Made In Heaven" starring Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis.

Hey jdcurly, I didn't know that. I heard some members did not like the song......
I think REM should have always produced themselves

Why would'nt you use an OLD picture for an OLD song like this one?
With Bill Berry and the band circa 1986?
