We have gone through 4 deadbolt locks for our front door in the past 3 years. Every time we buy one the key eventually just spins in the tumbler and does not engage so that the bolt can recede back onto the door. Any idea what we are doing wrong?

@ongchorcool actually, depends on skill. your skill, (beginner i guess) is low i take it. cabinets are easy. all you got to do is push all the pins up or down and turn it. there its picked. some cabinets are kinda hard and you got to rake the pins. my level is low and i'm trying a door lock. i got past combination locks and cabinets.

I am brand new to locksmithing so I'm still learning but I am slightly confused. You mention at :22 the plug/cylinder. One in the same. Right? Then you mention at :30 the explanation of the lock cylinder holding the bottom pins as well as the key. Good so far. But at :45, you say that the cylinder holds the top pins and the springs. Knowing what I know so far, the cylinder can't house the bottom pins and the key as well as the top pins and the springs. Did you misspeak?

i think it might be easier to use some superbumpkeys, they open the door with just a bump. i got some for 2 bucks each at superbumpkeys. com and they work great. you can pretty much open any door in just seconds even with no skills.

Use half of a hacksaw blade and grind it down to a point with a bench grinder or dremel.

It may take a while to make but its flexible and works great
