I know its not george roberts beacuse hes a beast , but whats the deal with the 2nd bass trombonist from 3:54 to 3:58. It sounds like hes kind of just fumbling through the part and has no idea were he is. I might be razy and if im wrong please tell me, but it just sounds very out of place .
Believe me, the bass trombonist IS George Roberts (far left side of the trombone section). This take was a rehearsal/sound check (I was not present at the entire session).
No this is a kenton trombone section, theres 5 trombones. Three tenors and 2 basses. Thats how its set up. Plus it says were you list the personell, Bill Tole and Geroge Roberts (Bass Trombone).
I don't like the whole earphone wearing recording session. I prefer the old days, when the bands dynamics were controlled mostly by the band. No room for the sloppy crap seen here. However, I have great respect for the legends in this group.
Unique video wit some brass legends, I wish there were more videos like this. This could be the last recording video of George Roberts for sure??

Put them in a Hall with two good microphones and you'll have a great sound. I don't like this set-up either. No need for so many headphones . .

I think George is the only bass trombonist (single trigger); Bill is playing a large bore Conn 88H.

Well whoever played it, it sounded really off. Or it could be the crappy recording quality, but it sounded wierd and out fo place.

FYI, Pete never felt comfortable wearing headphones; and he told me that in the old days, there were no isolation booths.
