I better tactic 4 the YMIR Mech is to go to the building on you left. Sprint in there as there is a case of HW ammo and he will not be able to get you in there :)
Good video, you have the exact same strategy as me. I reckon the best power is geth shield boost though, saved my life so many times, and I use Miranda with garrus or mordin for every mission pretty much.
I remember insanity. I've only played ME1 but I had started at the lowest difficulty and upgraded my character and squad and slowly increased the difficulty for the next play through. Took damn near forever but it was worth it in the long run.
Look guys this is the easier difficulty than in ME1. If your a soldier you are OP. Adrenaline rush with vindicator or mattock will give you a solo cakewalk through the game. I finished this without dying and in two days. So if your scared of dying, don't be, soldier is the easiest class there is.
I am totally confused here, when i try it, this dudes way, i die like in 2 seconds, 1 second, the shields are gone and the next second, i am dead, so something is totally wrong here.
Also, i personally hate how fire ammo turns your enemies into flames, it just doesn't look nice to me.
Hardened Adren doesn't reduce all damage done to you by 50%, its only your health, which makes it crap, since you lose shields in 0.1 second on insanity and you die a second later, so useless.
@BoredandTired81 Yes, but if you are using an automatic weapon the Hardened Adrenaline Rush makes more bullets fly out thus, doing more damage. If you are only going to be sniping and using your pistol then they other Adrenaline Rush upgrade is better since everything is slower and you only need a few shots to kill the opponent.
It is much easier to defeat that first YMIR Mech boss if you enter on of the buildings and shoot it from there. Then you're not running around trying to avoid rockets and machine gun fire.

@MrDesmond133 AP Ammo (Armor Piercing) it can do up to + 60% of damage vs. Armor and health to the +50% of Warp ammo to armor health and barriers; and the +70% of the shredder Ammo that only affects Health; So i recomend using Shreder ammo or AP ammo against Collectors and Blood-Pack mercs..
@xXLDeusXx if the AP or Shreder ammo reach lvl 4 the best upgrades for insanity is it for ourselves or for a group ? because I read best upgrade is for group if you don't use member who have ammo buff in insanity.
@MrDesmond133 depends on the group, i prefer to leave grunt and garrus with their mas level Inferno and Tungsten ammo (respectedly) but if your a soldir or vanguard with a Tech/Biotic team (i.e Samara and Mordin) I recomend using the squad use version, but only if you REALY like using them, but i recomend giving Zaeed Squad use disruptor ammo (Unless your a soldier or infiltrator that intends on getting Mas power disruptor ammo) BTW: I REALY like Reave as bonus skill! :D

@MrDesmond133 happy to help; and remember to consider levels that have only robotic enemies (Mechs and Geth) and other that only have Flesh enemies (Blood Pack and Collectors) and remeber wich defenses enemies get when in Insanity: Collectors-> Barrier;Vorcha->Armor;Blue suns and Eclipse->shields;Geth-> shields;Mechs->Armor; and if you import a high level from a mass effect 2 save (i.e. a level 30 soldier) enemies will be tougher(level 30 and upgraded)so i recommend using a fresh save! :D
@xXLDeusXx except it doesnt effect barriers, and the main enemy of the game has barriers. for soldier i dont usually pick an ammo power cause there's no point, you already have basic versions of every ammo. you should try picking up a power like energy drain or reave, heightened versions of the best powers in game (overload/warp) so you can do anything without teammates
@MrMouse099 but the barriers collector drones get at Hardcore and Insanity are soooo weak that having a biotic with warp (or samara with reave) or a soldier( Concusive shot does good damage vs. barriers) is already good, my favorite team, Me (infiltrator with Reave) Grunt (Inferno Ammo Concusive blast) and Thane(pull, throw and shreder ammo) or instead of Thabe i pick samara as my DM with the Mattock in her hands, plus she has got reave too! :D (DM=Designated Marksman)
the mech... shield with the assault rifle, since you dont have smg; armor with the pistol (or sniper if he is away), and then the health with what you want...
you used the sniper for the shield, the shotgun for the armor... man they dont do any bonus dmg against those defence layers...
a few other things: dont use warp ammo, use fortification. you can just spam it when up against hard enemies and fully upgraded it give you twice as much shields.
also us the cerburus armour in the free DLC. it gives you 10% more health and shields :)
@iDevastationMedia Fortification is Useless, use Barrier, it has NO animation and all shield upgrades have the same protection bonus, but the geth shield and barrier suffer from cooldown and duration Upgrades (barrier from biotic ones and Geth shield from tech ones) and Fortification has no upgrades to researche

Pick an infiltrator as you get tactical cloak(changing cover and once maxed out increases weapon damage alot), incinerate(shields),sniper, machine gun and pistol
For squadmates i recommend miranda for warp and overload and grunt as he can tank and get pwned put still live
The only levels that are hard are Horizon and the Ghost ship if you stay back with miranda and snipe and let grunt just run a muck and upgrade health,med mack capacity and machine pistol
Game companies are so fucking lazy when it comes to difficulty settings.
They just give the enemies a lot more hit power (which I like) but a fucking CRAZY amount of health.
It doesn't make you feel like you're particularly badass when you're having to find glitched corners and stuff (not hating on the video, I had to do this too). The whole point of a higher difficulty should be to punish you if you're stupid and careless and to challenge you but still make you feel like you can be a badass.

Fragger, it would have been better to make a guide on how to beat the game WITHOUT DLCs and not to mention not everyone is going to have played Mass Effect before playing Mass Effect 2. I don't have any DLCs and I haven't even played Mass Effect, but my first playthrough I beat the game on Hardcore with a Soldier without losing anyone in the Suicide Mission. By the way, Warp Ammo? Really? All you really need is Disruptor and Incendiary ammo and maxxed out Adrenaline Rush and you should be fine.

@rffmgv Honestly after playing Insanity on soldier...It's really hard to keep switching from disrupter to incendiary every time you break someone's shields..so I do the same thing and just use incendiary most of the time. It really does a lot of damage to shields, so much that disrupter isn't really needed on the assault rifles. It's nice to have it on the pistols or sniper rifles to get them down quick, then finish them off with the AR.
This si pretty useful but he uses snipers against shields (which they're not very good against) and shotguns against armour (which they're not good at) if he switched them round things would have gone more smoothly.
Here's what I did: Start with a brand new character level 1. Choose Armor Piercing as a bonus power. I also had all DLC's, Geth Plasma Shotgun works really well. Also I was a soldier, they're the best because you have adrenaline rush. Also do as many side quests as you can before fighting the collectors. I got everyone loyal as well. The ammo I upgraded was disruptor and armor piercing. Disruptor is good against shields and synthetics, armor piercing is good against armor and flesh.
if you haven't already i recomend getting Mass effect 1 and playing through that cause you'll get some bonuses that will help in ME2 when you import your ME1 character like extra money, paragon/renegade points, and extra XP

Did it on insanity on my first play through, no deaths, level 60 import. What will save your life, even more than warp ammo, is inferno/incendiary anything. Burning your enemies is so powerful and comes in to most effect at the end of the game.
I find that armor piercing rounds coupled with the geth assault rifle is very useful as it takes down bariers and sheilds through the base stats of the weapon and then destroys armor very quickly with the armor piercing rounds
I tore through everything very quickly with this combo
What i did was Easy 1st playthrough, Upgrade MY Weps, not squad.
2nd, do same, except get Reave. Once you get to Collector ship (1st time) get better AR (Machine gun if possible), then after horizon, switch Reave for Warp ammo. Take CONSTANT COVER! and dont EVER Get Reaper IFF untill EVERYTHING is upgraded, Even For squad, then Swap Weps for ALL RAPID. Always Take Collector Beam and only use on Extremely hard boss'.
Never waste ammo, stay in cover, use biotics, use Medigels, always go for HS
@casey111994 You want a guide for insane? like i said Bionic W/Fortification is super easy, all you need are people to balance it out like Mordin with his fire attack for killing people with armor and than a person of choice ( I Suggest Grunt )

Yay! Finaly back! Already beat it on insanity but will be useful for if my brother wants to beat it. Oh and I find it easiest with infiltrator soley because of invisability.
If you're going to follow this guide, don't follow it to the letter. Warp ammo is a complete waste for the soldier. You should mainly use Disruptor ammo and Incendiary ammo armor if you have the squad points.
Other than that this guy doesn't suck that much, better than most guides on youtube
@countbassy excellent point, also, he doesn't mention that different wepons have different damage to protection. heavy pistols and snipers (and possibly shotguns) are good against armour, assault rifles and SMGs are good against sheilds. not so sure whats best against barriers, i thinks it's the assault and smg again.
@countbassy Warp is a complete waste huh? Then tell me which weapon in a soldiers inventory strips barriers really fast. Let's see, Vindicator does 1.25 times damage to barriers. Revenant is 1.2. Carnifex is 1.0. Viper is 1.15. Widow is 1.0. Scimitar is 1.5. Eviscerator is 1.25. Claymore is 1.25. Since soldiers have no SMG's no weapon is good at stripping barriers at any range. Then considering warp ammo has bonuses against barriers armor and health makes it useful for anyone.
As far as this guide goes, this is a very sloppy play-through of the first level. When I did Soldier on Insanity, I managed to keep Jacob and Miranda alive for a lot longer when I faced the YMIR heavy mech.
jesus christ the ending of kasumi's loyalty mission is fuckin relentless!!! also, i think geth shield boost is best for insanity as it is a life saver on sooooooooo many parts(especially the dreaded platforms during ghost ship.) also helmets suck(i just wear the eyepiece that gives 10% extra headshot damage.)

@shagoosty well i was asking if there is anyway to get the downloads which are avaible on the collectors edition of mass effect 2 on the normal edition of mass effect 2. This is what i asked does it make sence to you now.
If you're an Infiltrator, select the Slam bonus power. Since you don't have very good close range weapons, slam is the equivalent to a shotgun. When fully upgraded, it can be used every 3 seconds or so. This means that swarms of enemies, be it mechs or husks, can easily be dealt with using a very quick and effective one-hit-kill power.
A guide with soldier is pointless. Soldier easily has the highest damage output of any class by a lot. You can get up to 240% damage with Rank 4 of your skills. You get 140% from Heightened Adrenaline Rush, 15% from Miranda's bonus, another 15% from your Commando, and 70% from AP ammo. This is disregarding armor, point blank, and headshot multipliers which are ridiculously easy to land with Adrenaline Rush. I was able to take out all 4 tubes hooked up to the Human-Reaper in one adrenaline rush.
I preferred the infiltrator to soldier and its powers seemed a lot more helpful, but once you get past freedoms progress, garrus loyalty, and collector ship its gets easy. But that tactical cloak makes ymir mech and praerorian boss guys really easy. Then the suicide mission with max reave ability was just too easy

disruptor ammo is highly effective against syntethic targets with shields.
in this case use disruptor to shield and then incendiary ammo for armor and health !!!

@rffmgv Honestly after playing Insanity on soldier...It's really hard to keep switching from disrupter to incendiary every time you break someone's shields..so I do the same thing and just use incendiary most of the time. It really does a lot of damage to shields, so much that disrupter isn't really needed on the assault rifles. It's nice to have it on the pistols or sniper rifles to get them down quick, then finish them off with the AR.

This si pretty useful but he uses snipers against shields (which they're not very good against) and shotguns against armour (which they're not good at) if he switched them round things would have gone more smoothly.

Here's what I did: Start with a brand new character level 1. Choose Armor Piercing as a bonus power. I also had all DLC's, Geth Plasma Shotgun works really well. Also I was a soldier, they're the best because you have adrenaline rush. Also do as many side quests as you can before fighting the collectors. I got everyone loyal as well. The ammo I upgraded was disruptor and armor piercing. Disruptor is good against shields and synthetics, armor piercing is good against armor and flesh.

Did it on insanity on my first play through, no deaths, level 60 import. What will save your life, even more than warp ammo, is inferno/incendiary anything. Burning your enemies is so powerful and comes in to most effect at the end of the game.

I find that armor piercing rounds coupled with the geth assault rifle is very useful as it takes down bariers and sheilds through the base stats of the weapon and then destroys armor very quickly with the armor piercing rounds
I tore through everything very quickly with this combo

What i did was Easy 1st playthrough, Upgrade MY Weps, not squad.
2nd, do same, except get Reave. Once you get to Collector ship (1st time) get better AR (Machine gun if possible), then after horizon, switch Reave for Warp ammo. Take CONSTANT COVER! and dont EVER Get Reaper IFF untill EVERYTHING is upgraded, Even For squad, then Swap Weps for ALL RAPID. Always Take Collector Beam and only use on Extremely hard boss'.
Never waste ammo, stay in cover, use biotics, use Medigels, always go for HS

If you're going to follow this guide, don't follow it to the letter. Warp ammo is a complete waste for the soldier. You should mainly use Disruptor ammo and Incendiary ammo armor if you have the squad points.
Other than that this guy doesn't suck that much, better than most guides on youtube

@countbassy excellent point, also, he doesn't mention that different wepons have different damage to protection. heavy pistols and snipers (and possibly shotguns) are good against armour, assault rifles and SMGs are good against sheilds. not so sure whats best against barriers, i thinks it's the assault and smg again.

@countbassy Warp is a complete waste huh? Then tell me which weapon in a soldiers inventory strips barriers really fast. Let's see, Vindicator does 1.25 times damage to barriers. Revenant is 1.2. Carnifex is 1.0. Viper is 1.15. Widow is 1.0. Scimitar is 1.5. Eviscerator is 1.25. Claymore is 1.25. Since soldiers have no SMG's no weapon is good at stripping barriers at any range. Then considering warp ammo has bonuses against barriers armor and health makes it useful for anyone.

As far as this guide goes, this is a very sloppy play-through of the first level. When I did Soldier on Insanity, I managed to keep Jacob and Miranda alive for a lot longer when I faced the YMIR heavy mech.

jesus christ the ending of kasumi's loyalty mission is fuckin relentless!!! also, i think geth shield boost is best for insanity as it is a life saver on sooooooooo many parts(especially the dreaded platforms during ghost ship.) also helmets suck(i just wear the eyepiece that gives 10% extra headshot damage.)

If you're an Infiltrator, select the Slam bonus power. Since you don't have very good close range weapons, slam is the equivalent to a shotgun. When fully upgraded, it can be used every 3 seconds or so. This means that swarms of enemies, be it mechs or husks, can easily be dealt with using a very quick and effective one-hit-kill power.

A guide with soldier is pointless. Soldier easily has the highest damage output of any class by a lot. You can get up to 240% damage with Rank 4 of your skills. You get 140% from Heightened Adrenaline Rush, 15% from Miranda's bonus, another 15% from your Commando, and 70% from AP ammo. This is disregarding armor, point blank, and headshot multipliers which are ridiculously easy to land with Adrenaline Rush. I was able to take out all 4 tubes hooked up to the Human-Reaper in one adrenaline rush.

I preferred the infiltrator to soldier and its powers seemed a lot more helpful, but once you get past freedoms progress, garrus loyalty, and collector ship its gets easy. But that tactical cloak makes ymir mech and praerorian boss guys really easy. Then the suicide mission with max reave ability was just too easy
