I think TonyDano was trying to say stomp on it and let’s see its true nature other than a soft subtle take off. I own a 2004 FX35 and it's a beast and a pussy cat at the same time. It scares me some times with the amount of neck breaking aggression it has especially if you turn off the launch control.
It was funny when he said " It's so much fun to drive I'm going to go do some more right now" then turtle pace away from the curb. lol Launch that sucka!!!!!!
I drive the FX35. And true it has so much engine muscle on it that the ride is gives the hard ride impression. When you hit the gas from a stop position, you would feel the engine roar like receiving a kick from the back of the car. I've learned to do a smoother ride by treating the car with respect and being more gentle on the pedals. I'd rather be behind the wheels of an FX driving an interstate than driving a "softer" car. It gives you more sense of confidence that it will take you home safe.
@aeroavia89 - yup. for practicality I would not even if I have the money. The FX50 V8 engine will drink gas like nobody's business. You can beat the FX50 engine power with the FX35 if you have it super charged. Again, why would you ask for more when the FX35 300hp is even more powerful than the Lexus, Acura and Lincoln MKS. The FX35 is on neck to neck power rating with the BMW.
Bought the FX35 last week. Absolutely love it. Had a 2005 Acura MDX and did give up the softer ride and cargo room, but the kids are grown and wanted fun over function.
This car is a comprimise. We had the previous gen as a lease for a year. Great car but here are some cons to consider. Small trunk - the sloped hatch takes away a lot of room, really stiff suspension - hard ride, average fuel economy - didn't get over 18, mild blind spots - the rear, the wavy hood is tricky for parking, the rear seats are not very comfortable...also the rear doors have little leg room - hard to get in and out.
well we have a few cars but our SUV is RX350 from lexus. It's the complete opposite of the FX in pretty much every way. Not fun to drive, has a lot of room inside, better on gas, softer ride and doesn't look as great. Don't ask me why we have it but it gets the job done and it kind of grew on me. Btw it's the 2008 model.
No BMW, the FX35 was extra bumpy...very stiff suspension. But it did help with the handling, it drove like a sports car - I loved it. The fake exhaust note was nice aswell.
I think a softer ride is possible with higher quality suspension. I've read on forums where people put coil-overs on their cars and it made the car handle much better but the ride actually got softer. This was for some other cars though
True, mbs and lexus are boring, but the most comfortable ride, bmws are infinitis does indeed have good designs, but the ride always becames a bit harsh.
well it was raining and every one was going about 65 70 and he was behind a e class well the e class slowed and he freaked, he swerved got sideways and nailed the concrete barer.
America needs more true high mpg cars like Europe has. VW diesel is one of the few, but even they have been dropping in mpg and they require expensive oil which doesn't help. Many of the car manufacturers were caught making bigger cars for the American market. They need to do a 180 degrees and head back to smaller more efficient cars. I had a 2000 Tacoma that got 34 mpg highway or better. That small pickup is gone now.
The California Air Resource Board sets diesel emission requirements so high that no car manufacturers can meet it. Thanks California! Bring a european diesel to the US and see if it passes California's punative and subjective diesel emissions tests.
also I deleted another guys comment by mistake. Seriously youtube make the "remove" button a bit harder to hit, meaning not below the reply button. or have a confirmation. sheesh.
Hey Dave Thomas, because you do what you do, i can only assume that you like cars. That said, you should let that excitement shine through. The reason we like British car shows is because they seem to be genuinely excited about cars. I am not saying try to be like Top Gear, but a witty remark now and then wouldn't hurt.
I'm not sure what you want me to do? Jump up and down? I don't like videos where the guys are screaming at you about the car. The other issue we have is, we're a consumer publication, and these videos are used with our own site so we're really trying to walk people through the cars' high and low points and show stuff we can't in a regular review. They're not meant as purely entertainment. Also, we were all hired as writers, not tv hosts and we try out best.
I think you guys do a great job. I find your style of reviewing much more comprehensive and it actually helps me choose vehicles and get a basic understanding of their key features and faults. All these kids want everthing to be like Top Gear where they act and bash cars for reactions and ratings. Its great for entertainment, but not for getting actual, useful consumer information. Keep it up Dave, you do a great job:)
@Carscom I prefer the no-nonsense style. Others sometimes seem as if they're trying to sell me the car. (which, due to conflict of interest, they just may be!)
the people who do these interviews are all like camera shy it makes it unbearable to watch them. They need to hire people who are enthusiastic about the cars not people who are afraid to speak.
I think audi is much better than infiniti you should test drive both guys there is a big difference between Germans and Japanesse IMO

Thus, no real need to buy the FX50 if the 35 is already more powerful than enough...

I don't think, no, only the engine is different.

no since the drivetrain is identical except for the engine.

Do you have a bmw as well, I like the current x6 but reliability trouble? So you're saying that the ride is still hard and not comfortable.
