Record stores didn't know where to put Frankie. The young guys running these places never heard of him. Sections that had 50's Pop or Easy Lisening had been done away with and they knew he wasn't any form of Rock so to them what else could he be but Country. But Nashville never thought of him as Country after all he was a Jazz singer from Chicago. How could they admit that he could sing Country better than most of their singers.
Thanks, Frankie could sing Country with the best of them. I have never been a big Country fan, but I think this came from Frankie's best Album while at ABC Records.
Funny thing--A few years ago, when record stores still existed, I'd sometimes find Frankie Laine in the country section.
But I don't believe any of his records ever even skimmed the bottom of the country charts.
